I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

I posted on another thread about the truly horrendous weather we've just experienced in Paris.

Been looking forward to this break with the teenagers for ages. It has been raining heavily for three days without a single break in the weather. We're all completely soaked through and it has made the break just that bit harder.

All the locals we talked to said it's been like this for weeks!

On the way home now after a 2hr delay on the eurostar to presumably more rain!

we returned from Paris yesterday too, whilst we had fun it was very wet and we are at real risk of trench foot 😂 We flew but to make you feel better our flight was delayed by 90 minutes and the airport was a nightmare. An hour to get through passport control and after that none of the eateries were open so I had to have a lunch of cheetos and a kitkat 😆

I just like it same as winter my favourite time of the year.
Thunder storms fog frost rough winds hailstones dark damp wet cloudy days.
Also find it more peaceful.
Always have always will like it.
I've never been a fan of summer or bright hot sunny days.
Not everyone is a sunny sun fan.

But what is it you love? Are you someone who doesn’t enjoy outdoor pursuits such as walking or gardening, or who has to commute any distance by car or public transport with the disruption and increased accidents bad weather brings? Do you not have events to attend outdoors that Do you not have to worry about the expense of repairs to a house or garden? I’m curious because whilst bad weather is a fact of life if you live in the UK actively loving endless months of horrendous weather is not something people tend to do.

I don’t particularly like hot days either, but there’s a vast middle ground.

Tangwystl · 31/05/2024 11:49

I don’t live in the UK anymore, but I was there for five weeks in March/April and it rained at least part of every day I was there. I couldn’t do my usual, lovely country walks because the water was almost knee deep.
It was awful, but I knew I was escaping and thinking, ‘at least it’ll be better when I come over in June’. I’m beginning to think it will be exactly the same!
I'll try my best to drag the sun across the world for you all if it hasn’t appeared with you by then! Trying to entertain children when the rain is endless is no fun and the biggest reason we emigrated in the first place.
I understand how many of you are feeling.

Every so often we have "a year without a summer". 2024 is building up to be one of those.

Problem is it hasn't been nice since last June here bar maybe the odd week or few days. That's nearly a full 12 months that's it's rained regularly.

Mozzarellaballs · 31/05/2024 12:13

@frozendaisy so true! We say that in my family too. My Auntie loves the snow etc but she doesn't work and it's not nice for my Mum who has to walk far in it to work and could fall

The weather dont stop us doing what we like we stop our selfs from doing it.
I enjoy the outdoors i went for a walk in the woods this morning going for a bike ride later.
I also go swimming in the lake when it rains.
I sleep better than what i do in hot weather.
I dont have a garden to care about i have a flat that dont need any repairs.
If my home needed repairs i have them done not wait for rough weather to hit first.
Accidents due to bad weather are not my fault accidents can happen in all weathers not just rain.
Disruptions happen in any weather and still disruptions are not my fault either.
I cant make the weather change can i.
We are all different and im sure im not the only one that likes rain and winter frost fog etc.

daffodilandtulip · 31/05/2024 12:19

I'm in both camps.

"Just bad clothing..." we still go out and about, on walks, we've had ice creams and milkshakes in the rain this week. I don't stay in because it's raining.

But I also like white wine in the summer, I've got some chilling in the fridge but it's been too cold to drink, let alone sit out in the garden in an evening and drink. I've got my washed and packed away winter nightwear back out. I like to have my morning coffee and read a book in the garden. And there's hardly enough dry gaps to get the lawn mowed.

piscofrisco · 31/05/2024 12:26

We just came back from 4 days in Rome and Naples where it was 27 degrees. Flew into stansted this morning at 7.30 am to what appears to be British Autumn. Rainy and blowing a gale. Now under a blanket with the heating on. Fucks sake. It's the end of May!

But that’s not true, is it. Bad weather stops plenty of things we enjoy doing, whether that’s because they’re rained off, or the grounds are closed, or the ground becomes unstable or unwalkable, or the rivers and lakes become unsafe to use or go near, or the transport we need to take us to family or friends or events is cancelled. Etc etc etc.
So, no garden. Ok, that figures.
A flat? Does a factor take care of roof repairs or leaks you won’t know about until the months of bad weather takes it’s toll and causes cracks and damage? Or is money no object perhaps, and you have an endless supply of excellent trades people?
Accidents and disruptions happen far more often in bad weather, something you’d be aware of if you commuted or travelled often.
Of course you can’t change the weather - no-one can - and we all just have to go about our daily lives as best we can. However, actively loving the restrictions and disruption many months of bad weather seems odd.

North west here. Nicely insulated house. Had to light a log fire two nights ago.

Last night I pondered putting the underfloor heating back on.

It's a bad show isn't it? I begrudge having to light a fire or use any heating at this time of year but it's been made far worse by the near doubling of the price of fuel!

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 31/05/2024 12:41

I'm with you, OP, I just want to make the most of the light nights before we're plunged back into dark by 4 o clock evenings again 😭 It's the longest day in 3 weeks and we've barely had any good weather to speak of.

I still get on with what as to be done no matter it rain or shine.
Life dont stop because of a bit of rain.

Don't get me started on the bad clothing argument

I hate wearing waterproofs and sick of wearing jeans and jumpers and boots

I want to wear summer dresses and the summer clothes and the new sandals I brought a few months ago in the sale

Actually it does kind of stop because if you were going to have a party in the garden with a bouncy castle or bbq that won't happen. We can't all swim in lakes and who fucking wants to especially if you have kids. Freezing and dirty. The weather SHOULD be better now and that's why we are annoyed and any chance of it happeing will be over soon and back to dark nights and mud everywhere

Laiste · 31/05/2024 12:56

I like sitting in the sun. I LOVE sitting/laying in the sun in fact.

Bad weather stops me doing that.

I see it's grey today. And a bit windy. Not actually raining so that's something i guess ...

One of the weather forecasters said something a couple of days ago to the effect of: next week will be the first time we've had 5 consecutive days without rain since Jan. That's 5 months.

Personally i don't remember the 5 lovely days we apparently had in Jan. So because of the awful Autumn i feel it's been more like 8 months since we've had 5 days without pissing piddling damp miserable fucking rain.

You can still take kids out in the rain wellies on rain coats.
Go on a worm snail hunt puddle jumping spot the birds or tent in the garden building a fort with large plastic sheet.
Collect pine cones to decorate the next day put in a box for the xmas tree.
Football in the rain.
Mud pies its endless.
Nothing better than getting in a hot bath after a muddy play day.
Gazebo for the garden.
You can turn things around and make it fun.
And its all free.

I can definitely believe that. Although, like you, i'm surprised we had 5 dry days in January. It feels like it's been raining since last June.

You know what else is free. The sun. ☀️

These ideas are great as a one off, but even the most nature loving children are getting bored of wet walks, considering it's been miserable since last June. As for turning things around to make it fun. I don't want to. I just want some sunshine, and a day without wearing boots and a bloody jumper.

Pine cones are usually on the ground in Autumn, not summer. As for thinking about Christmas trees... I just can't. Christmas is half a year away, can we actually have a Summer first? Confused

Its just an idea no matter what one says on here as a positive its all ways a reply with a negative.
If you all want to sit around and be miserable then go do it the weather dont make people miserable you make your selfs miserable for being so negative.

Yes, you can do all of those things and in autumn, winter and early spring that's fine. We got such a short time to do nice weather things that it's not unreasonable to be pissed off at the shit weather.

SOxon · 31/05/2024 13:32

One of mine is off later to the Caribbean where they have had no rain for months - they arrive tomorrow to - rain !
Yesterday I didn’t venture out the weather was so dire, sudden squalls, lashing rain,
drop in temperature, awful, bleak depressing days.
If it isn’t raining it is cloudy, overcast, threatening, glooming clouds as my grandaughter describes.
I dug out a sweater from the winter clothes I had ‘put away through summer’ Ha!

When man makes plans the gods laugh.

I'm curious as to whether you have a small child you have to entertain in this shite weather? Mines thoroughly sick of looking for worms, jumping in puddles and wearing his wellies.

You do know there is more affected by bad weather than just people and what they want to do.

Go watch Clarkson's Farm or speak to any farmer and they'll tell you the wet weather has caused no end of problems with crops going mouldy, fields being too water logged etc. This will cause food prices to go up as they'll be a shortage or we'll have to import from abroad. I'm already seeing a shortage of certain things that we usually have at this time of year.

No flowers also mean nothing for bees to pollinate. My tomatoes and strawberries are getting a battering.

Also people drying washing indoors more meaning houses aren't getting the rest from it, causing mould etc. can lead to health problems.

I can hear the bloody wind whistling around and it feels like autumn not the first day of summer tomorrow.
