I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

It’s blowing a gale here this morning, too. Heavy rain yesterday (outer SW London.)

Weather seems to be weird all over ATM. Was talking the other day to a sister who lives in Cape Cod (NE US) she said it’s been a lot colder and wetter than usual there, too.

OTOH according to the news yesterday, poor old Delhi is suffering a nearly 50 deg. heatwave.

Sounds like you must be near me (zone 6 outer SW London Borough). It's literally blowing a gale here and one of my fence panels is bending like it's an elastic band 😳

I'm curious as to whether you have a small child you have to entertain in this shite weather? Mines thoroughly sick of looking for worms, jumping in puddles and wearing his wellies.

Edited

No my children are adults now but i was still the same when they were smaller.
One works 8 hours a day outside and to day its pouring down but he loves his job we are all the same we get on with it.

SOxon · 31/05/2024 13:45

We have a long narrow hallway entrance, coming in drenched with wet shoes, coats brollies, etc etc is grim, macs, jackets, brollies hanging up in the shower, wellies or shoes now stuffed with white paper on the rack, lower worn clothes clean on to go out in, now dirty and in the washer, so much extra work and discomfort, on and on it goes.
Coming home on the bus from Oxford with a Primark paper carrier with (summer!) clothes and sandals, disintegrated bag, rain hammering down.

We used to go away this week, half term, in glorious sunshine, come home to the garden in full bloom, not to this, waterlogged, ruinous, frogbound!

It dont matter what i say you wont except the fact some like this weather like me.
I still get on with what as to be done no matter it rain or shine.
Life dont stop because of a bit of rain.

Months and month and months of rain isn't a bit of rain - come on now, you know this. You also know how this weather affects people's health, the farming industry and subsequent access to food, ability to travel safely, access to the outdoors, the additional costs that people have to bear in addition to the cost of living crisis, the effects on housing, the additional costs to public services, the effects on the economy and so on and on. People don't just airily get on with it - they get on with it because they have no choice and the impact is significant. Perhaps just not to you, Jack.

No, the weather that you love is. Have some awareness - these things affect all of us directly and indirectly to a greater or lesser degree. Your 'just collect pine cones' is tone deaf given the impact the weather is having.

I love the rain, it keeps my neighbour quiet and out of the garden at least. i was actually wishing for rain just to have some peace and quiet from the neighbour 🙄lol. i'm not much of a summer person anyway and i love any excuse for having some cosy time inside of the house.

Hahah same here, I'm like thank the lord it's raining no more screaming from next door 😅 and I mean proper screaming not to mention the epic tantrums in the garden too.

I think it's a case of rose tinted glasses. There's no way you would have been quite so sanguine and upbeat if this was the weather you had to entertain a small child in for months on end. I'm sure if you did indeed face months of seemingly endless rain when your children were young you probably had a bit of a moan about it too.

Never moan about the weather ive been an outside person all my life so have my children.

You've never moaned about the weather? I find that very hard to believe. Also out of curiosity what would you have done if you had a child who didn't enjoy getting drenched for fun and would rather have stayed inside?

No you haven’t - months and months of rain as we’ve had stops a lot of outdoor activities as has been pointed out to you. What you have done is gone outside when you’re able to, just like the rest of us. I’m sure your DC (despite what you will no doubt claim) loved being outside in the dry weather far more, esp as they got older.

No i still like the rain sorry.

You can like the rain, but still agree that there's been too much if it.

Especially as @SirChenjins has pointed out it's having a significant impact on people's health, the farming industry and subsequent access to food, ability to travel safely, access to the outdoors, the additional costs that people have to bear in addition to the cost of living crisis, the effects on housing, the additional costs to public services, the effects on the economy and so on and on.

People are allowed to moan because they dislike rain, but even those who like it can't deny the significant impact of a large and prolonged amount of rain.

I'm sure you'd much rather have the rain than all the devastating earthquakes and volcanic eruptions some countries are having ...

I find that difficult to believe given all your comments about no such thing as bad weather and going on worm hunts etc.

I suspect in reality given you consider yourself an outdoor person you would have taken them out in the pouring rain just to make a point. 🙄

My mum likes wine i like coke.
Nan likes veg i like bacon.
Its no big deal and again i cant change the weather.
Go find someone else to pick on.

I’d prefer the vast middle ground of some dry weather and some dry weather, with reasonable temperatures for June. Most rational people would.

No-one is picking on you, no need to get defensive. I’m simply pointing out that many months of rain and bad weather has serious implications and that it’s not something to love.

Likewise, it’s possible to prefer dry weather without loving it because the absence of rain over months and months also has serious implications.
