I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

It’s miserable.
Throwing it down and windy most of the day again and hasn’t made it above 13 degrees.
And it just started chucking it down again.
I’ve got thick leggings, socks, jumper and a hoody on. Fuck it, I’m putting the heating on.

socks1107 · 30/05/2024 21:04

I had to put the heavier duvet back on this week. I foolishly thought we could go to the summer one.

Pickingmyselfup · 30/05/2024 21:15

I'm fed up of my feet getting wet when I go for a run. I went out earlier despite it chucking it down, it did stop but even though I tried to avoid the puddles I still got wet feet which are still cold!

Bumbleoranhe · 30/05/2024 21:17

Look at met office - high pressure for most areas coming tomorrow. High pressure = more settled, dry weather.

Nopetynope · 30/05/2024 21:17

I have gone to bed to warm up under the duvet, socks on and vest under pj top …absolutely bloody ridiculous!

LooneyLiberalSpaceWaster · 30/05/2024 21:53

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 30/05/2024 19:58

The 18 months up until the end of March were the wettest since records began in 1836.

And it’s still raining.

Ah ha, I knew it ! thank you, I'm going to tell DH. He has been trying to convince me its just British weather as always. Its not. It doesn't seem normal. I can't remember a time where it has rained almost every day for 8 months.

elliejjtiny · 30/05/2024 23:00

Yanbu. Trying to dry endless washing and utterly fed up. We have a day when we hire a bouncy castle once a year in the garden. at year we couldn't do it and this year is looking likely to be the same. Also I got a lazy spa for my birthday and haven't been able to use it yet.

AlviarinAesSedai · 30/05/2024 23:11

The temperature might be warmer but it’s still raining!
I want to see the sun and get my vitamin D levels topped up.

LunaNorth · 30/05/2024 23:20

It’s so depressing.

I’m not a sun-worshipper, but blue sky and bright days completely transform my mental health. I just want to be in my lovely garden, and instead I’m staring out at battered flowers and struggling fruit and vegetable plants, and garden furniture covered in tarps.

😒

I can hardly bear to read any responses suggesting we had a summer in 2023.

Ask a farmer if we had a decent summer last year. Unless you've been living under a rock (a weird rock with a sunny micro climate) you'll have noticed food prices have sky rocketed. Your 'summer of' 23' followed by a hideously wet autumn/winter and spring (of 24) did that.

We are fucked off because aside from a few days in September, it started raining in June after that couple of weeks of sun then didn't fucking stop. And still isn't fucking stopping. Ask anyone with livestock if we had a decent summer in 23. It was constant bloody endless months of rain. The water table is so high, we've seen flooding we've never ever seen it before. Like ever. We NEED some warmth and dry weather not just for our well being but the farmers seriously need it too. I'm not even going to mention how many lambs died due to such a shit Spring. Oh sorry, I just did.

Enough with the we haven't had a shit summer in years bullshit bollocks.

Februaryfeels · 30/05/2024 23:52

My grass is knee high because I can't get out to mow

Weeds everywhere

Constant constant rain. It's so depressing

Edited

Thank you @Glorybea I remember last summer so clearly and it was rotten. It did start raining and didn't stop. I remember going down to wales and the rain was unreal and all these hundreds of caravans all
Heading down for their holidays. So depressing. And yes a farmer told me it has rained every Friday since last July. It is real. It's not just that we are imagining it worse than it is:

It is definitely a hugely unreasonable amount of rain and anyone who says "well what do you expect when you live in the UK?" can get to fuck!!

Edited

Thank you!!!! I'm fed up people telling me it's not the wrong weather but the wrong clothes and what do you expect from British weather. Sure sometimes the weather is shit but there are breaks normally!!! It's 8 degrees here this evening and I got into bed at 9 cos I didn't want the heating on . It's been one very long autumn/winter. I remember back in February everyone saying not long til spring now . Yeh right. Nearly June and it's so damp and horrid

Iamtarticus · 31/05/2024 08:24

I love the rain. It makes me feel alive.

Workasateamanddoitmyway · 31/05/2024 08:29

I'm worried the UK is going to dissolve and run off into the sea...there seems to be a lot of mudslides happening.

Can't dry clothes outside. I really object to using the tumble dryer in the summer but clothes aren't drying hung up inside either and they smell of damp. Damp, damp, damp everywhere.

Southlondoner88 · 31/05/2024 08:31

It’s awful isn’t it, I’m Irish and moved to London 8 years ago. I actually moved here from the US and the first summer was a bit of a shock due to lack of consistent seasons and dreariness. However, the next few summers up until maybe 2020 or 2021 were pretty good, not as good as what we got in the US but much better than Irish weather. I’ve noticed the last few years have been similar to Irish weather. I don’t mind the cold when it’s actually winter but you can’t do many outdoorsy things when it rains. So depressing, every day is a struggle to walk the dogs and it’s been like this the last few years now.

DiscoBeat · 31/05/2024 08:39

It is pretty rubbish. I'm consoling myself with the fact that the garden is looking fantastic having been well watered and it smells lovely and fresh. We're mostly home at the moment as DS1 is revising for GCSEs but dog walks have been very muddy and the tumble drier has been on too much!

I've lived in Ireland for nearly 2 decades now and been coming here for holidays and to visit relations all my life but God help us, this last year has been a washout even by Irish standards, plus it's been so cold some days I've had to light the stove1 I had to buy a bag of blocks or eco logs the last few days and the price of them has nearly doubled this last year. Apparently it's supposed to be ok this weekend but sure, the Irish weather? Anything could happen!
I'm a bit shocked to learn that ye have had it so bad over in England, it's usually a fair bit dryer over there than here!

Southlondoner88 · 31/05/2024 08:59

@Blubbled it’s probably not as cold or windy as Ireland but it’s definitely as rainy lately.

Girlwithapple · 31/05/2024 09:01

Crunchymum · 30/05/2024 18:24

Have had the debate with a few people recently who are in the "there is no bad weather, only bad clothing" camp.

Nope, the weather has been fucking abysmal and no amount of rain proof clothing can make the ground dry and usual outdoor May activities doable.

We've actually been luckier where I am (London) than a lot of other UK places but its still been shit.

I don't even want it hot. Just dry would do.

Hate those people!! As someone who works as a dog walker, I have the right clothing - I have several sets of the right clothing and I am beyond sick of this now 😑 so much so I don't know how much longer I can carry on doing this job.... In the day, when you are walking, it feels too warm for a coat. I end up lugging it with me on each walk but when it starts pissing down I have no choice but to put it on and overheat- despite it being a very good quality, breathable 'good clothing' 😫I'm sick of it, the dogs are sick of it. I towel the dogs off when we get back but the owners must be sick of coming back to wet dog smell so regularly 😑 😒

fieldsofbutterflies · 31/05/2024 09:05

@Girlwithapple I'm a dog walker too and I swear this year has been the worst since I started out 😩

Luckily it's warmed and dried up here in Cumbria though.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 31/05/2024 09:05

And I'm actually glad I invested in a dry robe for camping.....I even wear it on dog walks thanks to this weather, whether I look like a knob head or not.

CrushingOnRubies · 31/05/2024 09:07

It's so windy atm where I am. It was showery yesterday

It's may half term just want to enjoy outdoors and not take my whole wardrobe with me

SirChenjins · 31/05/2024 09:08

I’m with you OP - this is just miserable. We’ve had a few nice days here and I feel so much better with the sun on my face. Even the dog refuses to go out when it’s battering down.

Mozzarellaballs · 31/05/2024 09:16

The thing is even if you can keep warm and walk in the rain, which personally I don't want to do, it is the brightness I miss, I hate looking at dull grey clouds, I want to look at blue skies and brightness, it is fucking miserable looking at everywhere wet and dark, I literally feel a sense of doom! I have SAD and to think we may only get a glimpse of Summer and then back to dark nights before it has even started is depressing! I am half English and the other half is Med so I'm not sure if this is why it affects me so much.

Another note, so what if we had a nice Summer 2 years ago or whenever. Are we supposed to be thankful. That does not make this Summer any better. I usually say we have better Springs than Summers but this has been a wash out and August is usually always bad. Everything costs when it's raining, I don't want to spend £50 for an hour in an indoor activity with loud screaming kids all the time.
