Right ..
Kettle is on !
Thank you .

bizzey · 22/08/2024 00:44

Warm compress and cup of tea ....
Rock and roll !!

bizzey · 22/08/2024 00:46

And I really must sharpen my eye pencils ...and not scrape along with a blunt one !

bizzey · 22/08/2024 00:47

Typing with one eye us weird !

mathanxiety · 22/08/2024 03:10

Hope your stye will improve bizzey.

ZZ so good to see you here again. Sorry your pets are not doing well.
Lovely news of your daughter. Make sure she has to hand every single bit of paperwork she needs for immigration in the UK - visa, financials, the works. They were sticklers for dotted Is and crossed Ts when one of my DDs did a semester abroad in the UK.

havoc fingers crossed you can find out what's going on with your back and get treated.

lemons gorgeous countryside, and hope you and DS will get better sleep tonight.

The mouse count now stands at three. They have licked the peanut butter off five traps. I have put down poison pellet dispensers and have sent a text to the landlord.

DandyDandylion · 22/08/2024 08:43

@bizzey ouch, never had a sty but have had other eye issues and it’s awful having one of your senses effectively disabled.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I had to stop breastfeeding due to back issues. I had an older child too and all that lifting, bending and sitting on the floor took its toll. If you can carve out time for some sort of massage it is definitely worth it.

@Penguinsa Chatsworth looks amazing and we love everything Christmassy so that will go on my list to find time to visit.

@MissConductUS I think the key to a happy transition into retirement is to have plenty of things you want to do but also plenty of time to just chill. I’ve seen friends run ragged volunteering for everything going and ending up with almost a full time job, where they don’t want to let anybody down.

I have been cold water swimming again this week, really chilled me out, I slept so well afterwards. Also doing a bit of ceilidh dancing with dd who if you remember has dyspraxia so it doesn’t come easily. She has done very well with it though and we have also enjoyed watching some dancing and listening to the bands.

bizzey · 22/08/2024 12:40

He passed !! 😁😁🤩🤩🤩🏆🏆✨✨✨🎉🎉!!!!!

Better late than never !
He is now the proud owner of GCSE English 🤣🤣🤣 !

Penguinsa · 22/08/2024 13:00

Congratulations to your DS and you Bizzey

Cold water swimming sounds great Dandy

Hope pain improves Havoc

Good to hear your updates ZZ

Hope appointment went fine Uman

Lovely pics Lemons

DH has been back at work since Tuesday. DD is out doing punting work today and off to see friends in London tomorrow. We got UC through for DS as his appointee which is good. DD has started to clear her room and made 9 sacks of rubbish which council will collect. Had a quote to get trees pruned, which is pricey, but needs doing so we are getting it done. Still no news on surgery. Job checks seem to be close to finishing, just one to finish I think and their last e-mail said when you are over on the island bring this. Neighbour has invited us to a garden party on Saturday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/08/2024 16:57

So. Really enjoying bagels with cream cheese and strawberry jam at breakfast with my latte. A little too much, I think. One bagel becomes one and a half and sometimes two. 😳🤔🤗
Pain specialist appt this morning!!! 🤗
Opthamologist later today. Eyes will be dilated. 😎
Not looking forward to that as I am quite sensitive to it and takes longer to wear off.
We had quite a rain over night. I vaguely remember hearing it pouring. Sun is out now. 🌤️
Summer feels like it's winding up. Havoc goes back to school week of Sept 9, I think.
Havoc has just run into kitchen and returned to living room with the pasta spoon. Is poking between couch cushions saying, Come out of there, birdie! 😳

bizzey · 22/08/2024 17:36

🐦🐦🐦🐦🪶🪶🪶....
I would be having all the cushions off by now ! 🤣🤣

MissConductUS · 22/08/2024 20:17

Blimey, the thread is almost full. I'll open a new one tonight or tomorrow.

penguinsa, my DD had endless bags of rubbish when she cleaned out her room before she moved out. It's nice to have a guest room, especially with the new bed. I sleep in there sometimes if DH is restless. It's horrible that you're still waiting on a date for your surgery.

havoc, how did your appointment go with the pain managment specialist? The last time I saw one was for my sciatica and all she really had to offer was the cortisone injections. They worked, but only for a few days, so it was not a long term solution.

My MIL's estate is about to settle. Both of the children and DH are getting some money. We don't really need it, but it's a nice nest egg and house deposit for them.

OP posts:
Lemonsandlemonade · 22/08/2024 20:33

Do estates take long to settle MissC? They can take an age here in Uk.

How was your appointment Havoc?

Dandy - I enjoy cold water swimming when I can. Not many spots near me.

Up in Blackpool visiting my DGM who is 96 and as sharp as pin but has mobility issues now. I couldn't get her from the penny slot machine today though she loves them.

MissConductUS · 22/08/2024 23:19

lemons, my MIL had all of her assets in a trust, so no will had to go through probate court. My mother did the same thing. It's very common here to bypass probate this way. She passed in early May, so it took about three months. If it had been a traditional will, it would have taken a year or more to settle and cost much more attorney's fees.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/08/2024 23:23

Hi, everyone and thanks for asking how my appt went this morning. It's trigger point injections that I get, Miss.
I have had steroid injections once, though. Low back pain is the worst! Anyway, really struggling with it for a month now. Has been this bad in ages. Even when pregnant it didn't act up like this.

my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/17582-trigger-point-injection

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/08/2024 23:31

Bizzey, yeah, pretty odd for Havoc to be looking for a bird in the couch. We don't have a bird, so I wasn't worried. It was quite amusing, though! Havoc has also called out to the moon. Moon...Moon! Where are you? when we've been out walking at night and it "disappears" behind a building or trees.
I picked up some sushi rolls when out, just a Cali roll and Dynamite roll. Havoc had three pieces of the the roll and baby tasted some of the rice from the outside and had a small piece of naan with PB and a couple bites of cantaloupe (rock melon, if you prefer). 😊
I made ice cream sundaes after. Was going to take a pic to post, but had already started demolishing it! 💁‍♀️

mathanxiety · 23/08/2024 04:29

havoc if you don't already have a book called "Owl at Home" by Arnold Lobel, I think you should get it. I have a feeling someone in your family would enjoy it.

The empty apartment downstairs is being redone. The floors were sanded and sealed today, the first of two coatings, with the second to go on tomorrow. DD and I have opened all the windows that can be opened, but we still have itchy eyes and slightly burning throats. We're wondering if the fumes will make the mice pack their bags and leave (we are kidding ourselves that these mice take hints).

DandyDandylion · 23/08/2024 07:08

My back was at its worst when my dc were tiny. It takes a while for everything to tighten back up after pregnancy. Add that to the fact you are lifting two small humans and everything that entails it isn’t surprising. Hope the treatment helps.
We seem to be in the middle of a minor storm, been lucky with the weather this school holiday so far though.

MissConductUS · 23/08/2024 15:31

Havoc, do you have the children's book, Goodnight Moon? That may explain why he was looking for the moon. My kids loved that book.

Math, that floor varnish smell is the worst, and probably not terribly healthy. I recall that they make an oil based varnish and a water based one, with the former smelling the worst.

Here's an interesting bit of historical trivial for the thread. On this day in 1775, King George III declared the American colonies to be in "open and avowed rebellion and issued the followingand avowed rebellion : By the King, a Proclamation, For suppressing Rebellion and Sedition . That surely taught us a thing or two.

We had bulk pickup today. They took away the two metal bed frames we had left when we got the new beds a few weeks ago. The furniture company took away the old mattresses and box springs, but wouldn't take the metal frames.

And last but not least, I've started thread 31. Feel free to go and placemark, but let's try to fill this one up.

Miss, another book to put on list. We've taken a bit of a book break as some lovely books have been torn up...
To add to your trivia bit: and the US' revolt inspired the French.
Dandy, interesting. I know bf'ing bothers my upper back and neck, so I have to be careful and have baby up high and close using a pillow.

DC were both awake at 5am and egging each other on. Holy Hannah - I was like, no, no it's still sleepy time, to no avail. 🤦‍♀️
Rained over night. Is very dark atm and pouring. Plan is aquarium today.

Bizzey, how is your eye?
Math, that book looks cute! Have you gone around your apartment plugging holes?

MissConductUS · 23/08/2024 20:22

havoc, that's a good point about the French Revolution. That's why Benjamin Franklin was treated as such a rock star when he was the American ambassador to France.

I see that my link about King George's proclamation did not work, so here it is again.

By the King, a Proclamation, For suppressing Rebellion and Sedition

It's going to be a nice weekend here. A restaurant in my hometown that was a favorite of ours for years closed during covid. They have just reopened under new management and are getting good reviews. I'm a bit excited to go back and try it.

Miss, nice to hear that about the resto. You'll have to let us know how it is when you go.

Watching cnn and coverage about RFK jr joining Rep's.
🧐

Spent the afternoon at the Aquarium. Was quite busy!
Now have got dinner on. Salmon & wild rice. Put out chips & salsa and mashed up an avocado for dipping; and a fruit platter of cantaloupe, blackberries and pineapple. Sundaes later!!!

It's still dark and rainy, but there's something cozy and comforting about lights indoors and some yummy food.
I can feel fall coming..
