It’s awful @Penguinsa - I’m
so gutted for you

Deathraystare · 13/08/2024 16:06

@Penguinsa

I know why- the consultant obviously wanted a game of golf!

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 16:12

Thanks very much everyone. Death that is exactly what DH said. I was booked in for whole day and theatre to myself with multiple staff and this has been known for years so something has gone very wrong.

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 16:14

They had me in a gown, tests done, DVT stockings on, told going in in 15 mins then wham all cancelled indefinitely with no clear plan of how to fix issue. And presumably no surgery done for those staff that day. I've seen them so many times and its very clearly on my records.

Deathraystare · 13/08/2024 16:17

@Mumtobabyhavoc

That play area looks great!

@Lemonsandlemonade
Mmmmm Lemon bars!

@Apolloneuro
Get well soon! Bloody Covid,

@mathanxiety
Blasted mice! I remember when Mum had one. I had the genius (yeah right!) idea of suggesting my SIL loans her cats out. The catty smell would surely put the mice off. Nope. The poor cats (who were rescue cats) hid behind the sofa all the while!

@IWanderedLonely
South Devon is great! I have been there a few times. I cannot remember if it was at Torquay or Paignton where a seagull swiped my friend's ice cream! I felt a breeze of cool air just above my head and then saw it all in slo-mo, though it was actually very quick! Oh how I laughed (because I had already scarfed mine down!) Look out for them bad seagulls!!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2024 16:18

Oh god, Penguins! - You must've been incredulous.
Please detail this to your health minister if you can manage to gather the energy to do so.

DandyDandylion · 13/08/2024 17:05

Those lemon bars look lovely, never had them but will put them on my list of must bake.

Seagulls are vicious, you can always tell if you are in an area where they are fed or manage to scavenge food. I once had a tug of war with a gull over a subway roll. I won but then didn’t feel like eating the end he had gripped hold of.

GettingStuffed · 13/08/2024 17:31

My grandson went back home today, the house is so quiet.

Apolloneuro · 13/08/2024 19:26

The seagulls are dreadful in Devon. I was in Totnes last week and when sat outside a cafe having lunch, we saw they had water pistols to shoot them with.

@Penguinsa not meaning to pry, but did they suddenly decide you weren’t eligible or it wouldn’t work? Thinking about it, a relative of mine was once in hospital about to have an operation on a broken leg. The surgeon who was down to do it looked at the x rays and said it wasn’t the right move and he refused to do it. That was obviously much minor, but still discombobulated them.

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 19:43

Thanks Apollo and Havoc I am not entirely sure what has happened but they said it was due to a Sept 22 bloods result and a adrenal tumour from 2017 which has been stable and I've been told benign. I have never seen an endo consultant but have seen the nurse since start of 2022. Its very odd and seems to have happened at c7pm last night and is to do with the general anaesthetic but I have never had an issue with one and had maybe 4 ops since tumour seen under general. Apparently endo consultant refused to say a general safe because of 2022 bloods but they have had since Sept 22 to sort this. And I am really up against it time wise as have the job offer abroad and its a 3 month recovery period. Endo won't answer phone or see me for 3 weeks. Then there will be tests I think then back on list which will be at top of list but that's still 4 weeks.

mathanxiety · 13/08/2024 19:43

Crikey penguins - speechless.
((((()))))

Lemonsandlemonade · 13/08/2024 19:43

oh Penguina I am so sorry. 🌹

The Lemon bars are delicious!

Apolloneuro · 13/08/2024 20:15

I wonder if their concern about the general anaesthetic is due to the length of the surgery.

Might an email to PALS help expedite further testing?

What an incredible waste of resources. A theatre out for an entire day, not withstanding your well being.

@Lemonsandlemonade I’ve just discovered Jane’s Pattiseries. The rhubarb crumble cake went down well.

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 20:40

Thank you all. Apparently its any surgery with a general would not be allowed but I am on Tamoxifen to stop my cancer going to stage 4 and had to stop it on 9 July and I don't know how long to keep on doing this for. I've put complaints in now.

MissConductUS · 13/08/2024 20:44

So the gas passer didn't like your blood work from 2022? Didn't you have new blood work done as part of your pre-op physical exam?

This is like a bad TV show.

OP posts:
Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 20:48

Yes they did some bloods in pre op but not this one and its one from Sept 22 they don't like, you would have thought they would have mentioned it before now. 🤔And also off Tamoxifen which is not ideal.

Umanresources · 13/08/2024 20:57

Penguinsa I can’t believe that your surgery was cancelled at the 11th hour. I hope you have put in several complaints. Don’t forget to get in touch with your MP as well.
🤗

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2024 21:06

Penguinsa, What a colossal cock up.

Lemonsandlemonade · 14/08/2024 05:46

Oh Penguina what an awful situation for you.

Have a day with DH today as DS in nursery. We have plan to go to lunch

Deathraystare · 14/08/2024 08:17

@Penguinsa
This is definitely not on. The fact that you are off your drug too. I hope you get answers and they sort it out quick. Very wrong.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2024 08:32

Took both dc to outdoor movie in Stanley Park last night (Barbie). Spent time in two playgrounds and then a bit of a seawall walk. Stayed for about 30mins of movie and that was late enough, so left about 9:45pm. Had been to Granville Island before that for a bit of a wander and some food. Was fairly busy for a Tuesday afternoon, but it is a tourist spot in summer...
I've just finished eating two doughnuts as well. I picked some is at Lee's in the Granville Island market. God, I love a good cake doughnut. Took some pics while out.

Penguinsa, I hope you managed some sleep. 🩷

Thanks for all the support. Its complete lunacy as I don't have the condition and its just one blood test from 2022 which was done under daytime conditions rather than nighttime ones and gave a daytime cortisol result. I have explained this and Cushings has lots of symptoms which are very distinctive and I have never had them. Like they are saying high blood pressure risk, mine has always been never been high. And slow recovery, I have always recovered from ops in half the time they give. I was swimming about a mile 3 weeks after my last ops. I have never had a blood clot. I am a normal BMI and Cushings is supposed to cause weight gain, buffalo humps, purple stretch marks, round face, none of those. Only 2 out of 10 tests were not in normal range.

Anyway, I complained last night and sent to Chief Executive and the Secretary who was not especially helpful yesterday though tbf she doesn't really know phoned at 7.50am with we are so sorry how can I solve this. The trouble is she can't solve it and I don't even know what is required to solve it other than issue seems to be we need the one endo person who they are saying isn't available until 3rd Sept to sign off and he's had 2 years to see me if he thought it was serious enough to cancel all ops. He doesn't even seem to work privately. But am trying to find out if he's the only consultant capable of making a decision - surely a massive hospital has more than 1 consultant coming in maybe once a week. He's a professor at University and seems his main job is at the University. I have no idea what tests are needed. Plastics don't know either.

Penguinsa · 14/08/2024 08:38

Lovely photos Havoc Cross posted. Good for me to see nice relaxing pictures. I have to get my cortisol levels down before next test. 😂

I did sleep OK until 7am when woken by the fluffy paw. Floof was so happy to see me back yesterday he didn't eat his tuna yesterday when I left. And DD made a lovely Ferraro rocher and nutella chocolate brownie cake and gave me some. She never normally cooks cakes.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2024 17:32

Good morning, everyone. 🌥️ Still feels warm and humid here, although temp has dropped to 17c. Penguinsa, funny we last posted at the same time! 😊 That brownie cake sounds delicious and I'm so glad you managed some sleep. 🥰 How frustrating and exasperating to have to fight the medical system - as if you don't have enough on your plate. 😤🩷
