I hope you get some answers Penguina.

Havoc that sounds fun.

DH and I had a day together minus DS. It was bliss.

And it's so many wasted resources, operating theater time, surgical team time, etc. And all because of a two year old test result.

Crikey. No wonder everyone on MN says the NHS is broken.

Thanks Lemons, MissC and Havoc

Lovely photos Lemons

Yes MissC it was a whole operating theatre and surgical team out of action for a whole day which I've been told would have been recorded as an adverse incident and an investigation would happen. They didn't stop it until 8.03am and was due to start at 8.15am, they made decision at around 7pm previous day. And they clearly had not communicated to staff as I was put in gown and DVT socks and given tests and told at 8am the operating was starting at 8.15am.

Made lots of calls and e-mails today, lots of unanswered phone numbers and don't ring you back from messages ever. And claims everyone is on holiday. But I have now got an endo appointment for tomorrow at 12pm so hopefully I will at least find out what the issue is with endo. Though they are now saying whole of surgery is on holiday for a month and no surgery is happening until mid September. I do not believe every surgeon is out until mid September. Quite worrying if true though as patients having cancer and reconstruction together go before me even though I wasn't offered that option. Cancer out fine but annoying rest of it. And no idea if I am supposed to be retaking Tamoxifen or not, secretary said I should take it but I took one then got this call with appointment. Think you need 4 weeks off it though can't imagine 1 is too much issue and they are saying nothing before mid September and they allocate 4 weeks in advance. Am very likely to get cancelled again if there is a month gap. They won't book me in until endo sign off. Endo also claimed whole team on holiday but miraculously have found someone after complaints to Chief exec after insisting no-one could speak to me before 3 Sept. I don't think my stress level bloods are going to be low.

A level results tomorrow. DD out with boyfriend and opening with a friend tomorrow then out with friends and boyfriend then pub then club but she may not go to pub. Not sure if telling us features though tbf she made all the plans when I was supposed to be in hospital. I am sure will be told when things need buying. She is also going to Venice with her friend. Been chasing references as well - they want them so far back and one told me rules here mean they delete at 7 years. But they are trying the pension records which is a government pension, one my former manager is doing who is very senior now and lovely. Other one has a ban on anyone but HR doing and doubt they have records but have found things from there I've sent over.

mathanxiety · 15/08/2024 04:43

Lovely photos, havoc.

It's downright Kafkasque, penguins. I don't know how you cope, and with so much else all happening at the same time too. I'd be a human bowl of jello by now.

I caught the mouse and decided to buy more traps just in case, and I can't find the old packet of traps I know I put away somewhere.

Another outdoor movie night. E.T. at what used to be called the QE Theatre Plaza.

Thinking of your DD today @Penguinsa !

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 11:05

Thanks just off to hospital now but DD is into Oxford Uni. Will catch up later.

HildaTablet · 15/08/2024 14:52

Great news for DD @Penguinsa 🎉
Fingers crossed that you’re getting some productive answers at the hospital.

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 15:01

Thanks everyone. Well done on mouse Math and great pictures Havoc.

Well went to hospital and cancelling the operation was an error. 🤔It was an oncall doctor who did not understand adrenals as they called at 7pm night before operation at 7am.

Lemonsandlemonade · 15/08/2024 15:02

Fingers crossed 🤞 for your hospital appointment Penguina. Well done on your DD getting into Oxford,

DN got into the uni she wanted to so that's good.

Lemonsandlemonade · 15/08/2024 15:03

Cross posts Penguina what the hell an error! So what is that solution.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2024 15:35

Penguins an error??? 🤬🤦‍♀️

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 15:50

Thanks Lemons and Havoc Yes and they can't reschedule op as both surgeons are out, one on his main summer holiday, one a parent has died. No ops before 17 September and do one a week and other patients may be prioritised so with 3 month recovery very touch and go whether will be possible with new job. And no idea if should be taking Tamoxifen, Secretary says yes and says they normally stop for 4 weeks.

HildaTablet · 15/08/2024 16:11

I just don’t know what to say @Penguinsa but 😡🤯🤬🤬🤬🤬

mathanxiety · 15/08/2024 16:49

Ye gods! penguins - utter incompetence all around.
Good news about your DD all the same.
Can you push for priority if they reschedule, or can you be slotted in elsewhere as this was down to doctor incompetence at your home trust?

sueelleker · 15/08/2024 16:55

Is this the only hospital who does that operation? Can't they find one somewhere else in the country? I think I'd travel as far as necessary for this.

bizzey · 15/08/2024 16:59

Ohh my god Penguinsa 😲😲😠!

They should be prioritising you and putting you in a private room !

When is the job move date ?

Well done in your DD achievements ☀️.

Unfortunately..her A level results day is going to be a day to remember for all the wrong reasons 😡 xx

Take care x

Lemonsandlemonade · 15/08/2024 16:59

Penguina am so angry on your behalf. Is this the only hospital option?

MissConductUS · 15/08/2024 18:47

This is insane. If your surgery was canceled due to their error, you should be at the top of the list for the next possible date.

OP posts:
Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 22:15

Thanks All. Yes this hospital is the only realistic option as all hospitals have massive waiting lists of years for this operation. Privately its £30k done in this hospital by same team with 3 month wait which also doesn't work.

Endo part is solved. But issue is everyone in plastics apart from the list co-ordinator is on leave and no operations are happening until 17 September and she also cannot book operations in until someone senior returns and I think most are on long summer holidays and one has had a parent die. So this woman seems to be trying to run the place alone and giving lots of medical advice and I have no idea if its right or not. She is saying other people will bump me down list and I should retake Tamoxifen but she has no-one to check this with. I can go back to complaints team and see if they can sort anything. This woman is trying her best and means well but its scary the errors and the non-medical staff giving medical advice. The receptionist at endo was also saying he could make a problem disappear by cancelling an appointment. Its a good job I can do my own research.

Been gardening with DH and got a couple of hours done. Now have spaghetti bolognese. DD is out celebrating.

Umanresources · 15/08/2024 22:33

@Penguinsa congratulations to your daughter. Brilliant achievement and well done to you. I know, as well as her own hard work, the family support is really important.

i can’t imagine what you are feeling because of human error and 11th hour cancellation.

@Mumtobabyhavoc when I was in Toronto, I went on a date to a drive-in movie. It was something we’d only seen in the movies, so I was really excited. Unfortunately my date decided to save money by parking in the field next to the drive-in, so we had no speakers and we were watching the film from the side 😂
That romance went nowhere!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2024 23:40

Oh, Uman....yes, that's was rather cheap. 😵‍💫
Drive-ins bring back childhood memories of summer! We'd always go once or twice. I think that's why these outdoor pop-up movie nights are so fun and popular. As far as I know, the last drive-in here is closing when summer ends.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2024 23:44

Penguinsa- congrats to your DD for uni! Fantastic news. You must be very excited and proud!!! 👏

sproutsandparsnips · 17/08/2024 08:28

Just catching up as been on lovely cruise for a week in the Mediterranean.
@Penguinsa I'm so sorry about op - that's unbelievable! Massive congratulations to DD though.
DS had AS level results during hol. We were supposed to be in port with signal but had schedule change due to storm so at sea. Had to pay for WiFi to get them. They were ok and he is still on to get what he will need if he gets offers for medicine but he needs to keep his foot on the gas!
Now for the ucat!

Deathraystare · 17/08/2024 15:20

@Penguinsa

What the hell went on there then? Sounds utterly ridiculous. House MD would have sorted it out!!

Congrats to your daughter!!

@ Math well done! One mouse down....

I had Thursday and Friday off from work. I decided to go to Kingston upon Thames. For some stupid reason I kept thinking I was going to Richmond and tried to get off at Richmond Station. Which is of course in Richmond, not Kingston..... Anyway, all was good until I decided to go home. I left the cafe at 17.00 and tried to get a bus back but in my mind I was still in Richmond so could not find where the bus went from for a while. Must have managed to get to the bus stop at 17.25 in the end. The stop which has a number of buses stopping there was jam packed. I eventually got a bus at 18.40. Yes! 18.40! Lots of problems though plenty of buses going through to Roehampton Vale which I did not realise we go past in the bus!!

We had to get off the bus past there but another bus was right behind. I had to get off at Putney bridge and wait for another bus. It takes two buses to get to Kingston from my place. That took forever though if I had half a brain cell I could have taken two other buses that go near where I get off (go down a different road). I am so dumb it is not safe for me to go out on my own!!!

However I did manage to get some reading glasses. I have lost my prescription ones and the reading ones I kept at work had an arm off. I took them home and managed to sleep on them so the other arm came off so had to get the new glasses!!
