Lemons, fitting you made lemon bars!!! Home made butter and scones, too??? I'd be so very excited if you showed up at my place with all that! Sounds like a lot of effort, but delicious results!!! Post your recipes if you are inclined...🤗
Penguins, I'll miss the Olympics on tv, too! How long will you be in surgery and recovery before home?
Apollo, sorry to hear you have covid. Have had it several tomes and was awful each time. Get well soon.

Took Havoc to Fun Box again today. Loved it! Pic is from the obstacle course.

Watching Olympics' closing ceremony that I pvr'd. Just want to say how beautiful the French nat'l anthem is. What a gorgeous rendition! 👏

bizzey · 12/08/2024 01:36

Just checking in !.
@Penguinsa ...hope everything goes well for you

The preparation before hand can be so overwhelming x

mathanxiety · 12/08/2024 06:17

Lovely cat pics all around.

penguinsa I hope you'll get some restful sleep between now and Tuesday.

I'll miss the Olympics too.

There have been no more mouse sightings. I found a trap and baited it, but there haven't been any takers. Maybe the mint extract worked, or maybe Dcat scared it off. She isn't the best hunter but has given mice a run for their money in the past.

The butter I just put double cream in a jam jar shook it until it turned to butter then washed it and added salt.

https://www.janespatisserie.com/2020/07/18/lemon-bars/ The lemon bars are yum!

wow havoc that looks lots of fun. My DS would love that too.

How is your DD feeling about her results Penguinsa? Is it a long procedure? I have you in my thoughts and have everything crossed for a speedy recovery.

Wow a trainers cycle MissC that's impressive.

DS better this morning and slept 12 hours

It's going on for 6:30am here and I'm trying to get back to sleep after nursing baby, but Lemons, I'll be reading the recipes! Very impressed with the butter making!!!
The Fun Box bouncy park is pretty amazing. Apparently Big Bounce over in Alberta is quite an experience as well.

Curious how the washing machine cycle for gym shoes differers from a normal cycle. I've always thrown my "runners" in the wash on the "normal wash" cycle. 🤔

sneakers/USA

*Apollo8, sorry to hear about your case of covid. It really is the pits. My whole family got it at Christmas in 2022. Have you had the jabs or a case previously?

Lemons, I can sympathize over your SIL woes. DH and I are almost no contact with his sister. When she wasn't invited to DD's wedding (because they haven't seen each other in over a decade), she pitched a fit on Facebook and tried to convince other family members not to attend.

Havoc, the sneaker cycle on the Miele is one hour and nine minutes, uses warm water, and involves lots of time soaking and very gentle rotation of the drum so that the shoes don't get thrown around in there. Then it does a fairly low speed spin. Leave it to the Germans to determine the perfect way to wash sneakers. They really came out much cleaner. By the way, I call them running shoes, too.

Math, I'm a bit surprised by your mouse. We only get them in the house during cold weather when they're looking for a warm place to live. Our cats can be a bit rubbish at mousing also.

We had a FaceTime call last night with DD and SIL. They gave us a video tour of their new flat, which is very nice and much larger than my first flat after uni. The big steel container from UHaul that had their furniture and boxes arrived on time last Friday and they had no problems moving things in. He has a few mates from uni who are going to the same graduate school program and they helped move everything in.

Sending all the very best to you @Penguinsa

It's been boiling hot today and I’ve just lurked inside feeling as though I’m melting. I cleaned the oven a few days ago and as I (still) haven’t defrosted the freezer, that’s next on my list of never-ending house jobs.

Sorry to hear you’ve got Covid, Apollo. I still think I might have had it recently - never had a positive test but, after 3 weeks, I’m still not completely right and have both a cough and keep having massive sneezing fits.

Umanresources · 12/08/2024 20:49

@Penguinsa hope everything goes well for you tomorrow. Sending positive thoughts to you.

I missed the 2012 Olympics because I was in hospital with sepsis for 3 weeks. People still talk about Super Saturday and I still have no idea what happened that day.

@Apolloneuro sorry about the positive Covid. We had it for the first time earlier this year and it was horrendous for a couple of days, then tailed off to being just unpleasant for a while.

Havoc the obstacle course looks like so much fun for littlies.

MissC I have laundry envy. How lovely that your DD and SIL have good friends to help then out.

Lemon strangely enough I keep getting recipes for cheese scones on my feed and I've never made them, but I need to try. I'm also going to have a go at making butter too. Sounds like fun.

Lovely sunset tonight. I spent the afternoon vacuuming the conservatory and I was melting, even though I had doors and windows open!

Weather here has been grey and muggy, and rain this morning. We've just booked some campsites for South Devon for September, went to Torquay many years ago, but the rest will be new to us.
I am fed up of making chocolate cake and brownies, so made a Victoria Sponge for tea today.

MissConductUS · 12/08/2024 21:10

Best of luck tomorrow, Penguinsa and wishing you a speedy recovery.

Much cooler here with rain forecasted for later in the week. Just re-watching closing ceremony speeding past speeches just to watch beginning and handover part. Giving thought to L.A. in 4 years...🤔

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 00:51

Thanks very much everyone. Had pre surgery things yesterday and back in 7am tomorrow and as long as no emergencies 11 hour op and then in hospital a week.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2024 01:01

Penguinsa, 11 hours??? Wow! I had no idea it would be so long. Maybe ask for facial, massage, mani and pedi, too? 🤗

mathanxiety · 13/08/2024 05:06

MissC I have two theories about the unseasonal mouse - empty apartment downstairs and no more food since the downstairs neighbour moved out, or the spread into the neighbourhood of possibly legions of mice due to the demolition of an old building a few blocks away. We had an invasion previously when the next door plus one house was renovated.

penguinsa sending good vibes your way.

Commiserations to those hit by covid. I'm thinking of breaking out my masks again as there's been an uptick in rates of infection here. My doctor wants me to get a covid booster, and RSV, flu, and shingles shots. I'll have to plan on a lost weekend some time in the next few weeks.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2024 06:22

Hello, dear Penguinsa 🥰 All good wishes for you! You are in my thoughts and we're all with you virtually today! Lots of love to you!!! 🩷🩷🩷

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 09:03

It’s cancelled and they are not rescheduling as under endocrinology but been under them 2.5 years and they tell me in hospital on day on surgery. Devastated as need it now to do job as well. Now have to choose between them.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2024 12:56

Oh, no Penguinsa! I'm so sorry to read your post. I can't understand how your surgery can be cancelled at the last minute like that. (Sorry, I don't understand the reason either.) You must be beyond devastated. I wish there was something I could do. Was this a bureaucratic decision, or made by the surgeon? If it couldn't be done, surely, it would've be determined earlier. I'm fuming on your behalf! It's such an emotional situation, too. I can't believe that happened in that way. I can't find the right words. I'm just so, so sorry for you. 🩷🩷🩷

HildaTablet · 13/08/2024 13:11

Oh @Penguinsa that’s so awful. I’m so sorry ☹️

HildaTablet · 13/08/2024 13:13

I know it’s a massive thing to suggest but is there any way you could have it done privately, or would that just be too prohibitively expensive and complicated?

Penguinsa · 13/08/2024 13:44

Its about £30k privately and 3 month wait and in same hospital with same team and they said no. The only thing that might help is endo privately but plastics won't say if they would accept, think they need NHS endo to sign off and I think issue might be they only work 1 day a week or so or maybe on holiday now. I have no idea what we even need though.

MissConductUS · 13/08/2024 14:23

What an awful position they've left you in, Penguinsa. Here, canceling on the day of surgery for anything other than a medical reason is almost unheard of. All of the admin issues are sorted out weeks in advance. I'm aghast at how poorly organized it is.

OP posts:
DandyDandylion · 13/08/2024 14:40

@Penguinsa sorry to hear your op was cancelled last minute, also how confusing they haven’t rescheduled.

I spent all morning outside rushing about to do jobs before it rained. I’m still waiting for the forecasted rain but at least I got lots done.

bizzey · 13/08/2024 14:49

Wow @Penguinsa 😲😲😠!
There are just no words are there .
Speechless!

How the hell did they come up with the decision to cancel literally at the point of tarting the operation.

You poor thing.

Take care 🌹🌹x

Apolloneuro · 13/08/2024 15:42

I’m new here, so don’t really know what’s happening, but to cancel major surgery on the morning is incredibly cruel.

I am appalled on your behalf. That decision should have been made much sooner.
