Thanks for new thread MissC and enjoy Florida.

We made the giant beanbag for DS and Floof loved the cardboard box but fell in it and needed to be helped out. 🙀

Just had a Chinese meal and now having shortbread with a cup of tea.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 21:42

Penguinsa, are you still swimming? Haven't mentioned it for a while. Did your dh recover from last ear issue?

Have been puttering here: laundry, vacuuming, cleaned vacuum filter, changed bed sheets, baked another walnut choc chip banana bread, cleaned bathroom, vacuumed couch, fed and changed dc a few times each... Havoc just falling asleep; need to get dressed and out for a bit of a shop for new clothes for Havoc. Growing fast! Rain has stopped.

Penguinsa · 22/02/2024 21:48

We haven't been for a week or so now. DH keeps getting ear infections every time he swims there and its been going on for 2 months and means he has to sit it out. We are going to try changing swimming pools and see if that is any better but have to wait until end of March for contract to run out. We may do National Trust walks instead or similar but the weather is dire here, think maybe wettest Feb on record I saw, so a bit challenging.

Sounds like you have been very efficient today Havoc

Penguinsa · 22/02/2024 21:50

His ears are OK at the moment but as soon as he swims in that pool he goes completely deaf again. No idea if its that pool, I've never got infections.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 21:54

Penguinsa, is it worth a trip to the GP for an ENT referral since it has been going in for so long? Yes, feeling quite accomplished here. 😁

Penguinsa · 22/02/2024 21:58

Thanks Havoc He's seen the GP three times now, its currently gone, he's had antibiotics which work each time but then swims in that pool again and back even if not swam for a month. He has also got some earplugs now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 22:01

Penguinsa, how frustrating! 🤔Hope changing pools solves it. 🤞

sproutsandparsnips · 22/02/2024 22:44

That's annoying Penguinsa!
In tyre related news I came out this morning to find that the tyre was completely and utterly flat. I had to take DS's old banger to work and drop mine to garage. I asked them to check other tyre treads as I knew they were on the cusp of legality and so I am now having 3 new tyres.......

mathanxiety · 23/02/2024 04:54

sprouts glad you spotted the flat.

Sorry your DH seems to be badly affected by the pool bacteria, penguinsa. Would a swimming cap work?

I found a little bottle of catnip spray while cleaning out a kitchen cupboard where I stuff odds and ends, and sprayed some of Dcat's squishy toys. She had an enjoyable afternoon.

I have a day off on Friday and will be making panzanella for dinner. I used to make it a lot many years ago.

HelenaJustina · 23/02/2024 06:29

The rain here yesterday was biblical, flash flooding on site which luckily didn’t encroach on classrooms.
Ironically, DC1-3’s school is closed as they have no running water… they were all delighted but have been set mammoth amounts of online work to do!

mathanxiety · 23/02/2024 19:17

I hope your DCs can manage the online work, Helena. Do you have to be at work or can you work from home?

Umanresources · 23/02/2024 20:11

I’ve undone three rows of knitting. I’m only doing k1p1 for one row and p1k1 for the next. I’ve dropped stitches and increased some. I used to do lots of knitting clothes for my family. This is only a scarf.
Oh I emptied the dishwasher as well.

MissConductUS · 23/02/2024 22:45

Welcome, @Umanresources, and thanks for sharing your knitting and dishwashing news.

My meetings are done. I got to the pool around 4:00 but it was cloudy and windy, so I only stay for 30 minutes or so and didn’t swim. I may have time tomorrow to try again as I don’t have to leave for the airport until 10:00 or so.

Apologies for my lack of posting. I just brought my iPad on the trip and it’s rubbish typing on it.

Thank you for the welcome MissConductUS . It’s lovely reading about other people’s plans. I forgot I’d spent some time searching online for egg spoons, as I lost my lovely Alessi one, which is possibly somewhere in my cutlery drawer.

Penguinsa · 24/02/2024 01:11

Glad tyres are sorted Sprouts

May try a swimming cap Math he's got ear plugs he will try now which might help, will also check with him he gets the water out of his ears after swimming, I always tilt my head and never had an issue but DH is a recent starter to swimming.

Hope you get your swim MissC

Welcome Uman

Absolutely dire weather here too Helena DD went off to work for her job on the river (I did question this but was assured would be fine) and then returned home a short while later, all cancelled.

Hope you are all fine Havocs

Watched Oppenheimer on a 48 hour rental, £3.99 so pretty cheap, DH may watch it too. Enjoyed it but a bit intense and long. Cleaners are coming tomorrow to do downstairs and upstairs bathroom. Did some hoovering. DH cleaned downstairs bathroom, DS normally shuts that so cleaners can't get to it. DS was using the microwave again. Had a homemade soup for dinner, veg with cream, was very nice.

Tilllly · 24/02/2024 02:37

What's panzanella @mathanxiety?

Tilllly · 24/02/2024 02:39

@Umanresources if your cutlery drawer is anything like mine, it's gone forever

To be replaced by a random gadget of unknown origin

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/02/2024 02:58

How did you make your soup, Penguins? Is your ds eating more/more variety? I want to watch Oppenheimer, too. Will likely have to watch over a couple days when dc are asleep so i can focus.
Miss, bummer about not getting more pool time!
Sprouts, good you addressed tires.
Helena, flooding/rain sounds awful.

Set out to take Havoc shopping for a few things today. Stopped for gas and locked Havoc in the car. 🤦‍♀️
A couple guys helped by flagging down a police car and also calling auto club for me (cell phone also in car). Police called fire dept who arrived same time as tow truck. Fire truck has light/sirens on.
Tow truck driver opened door in less than a minute. 😁
Police stayed to ensure Havoc was ok once I opened car and gave Havoc a sticker for being so calm. 🥰

Bought two sets track pants, a package of dress socks and a package of sport socks, a polo shirt and a zip up hoodie. Will cull clothes drawer over the weekend and wash new clothes.

Dinner was salmon with pesto and roasted potatoes and mushrooms. 😋 Tuxedo cake for dessert.

Tilllly · 24/02/2024 03:06

Oh no @Mumtobabyhavoc
What a star she was tho!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/02/2024 03:12

Oh , and a woman at the next pump said she locked her ds in the car 18 years ago.... then another woman said she did same 20 years ago!

Penguinsa · 24/02/2024 03:12

Glad you got help to get to Havoc

DH made the soup and he's French so makes soup differently to here and I think he just chops up the veg (carrots, cabbage, potato) and boils them in water then adds single cream at the end. Then we have bread and butter with it. When he makes similar for the kids he tends to run it through the blender but I prefer the chunky veg.

MissConductUS · 24/02/2024 03:16

Havoc, that must have been incredibly stressful for you. I think in New York, the cops would have just broken one of the car windows. I have a app on my phone that can unlock the car remotely, but that won’t help if the phone is locked in the car, obviously.

I’m just back from dinner. I can’t remember the last time I’ve eaten out this many nights in a row. I’m looking forward to flying home tomorrow (it’s still Friday night here), but I think the Orlando airport will be a madhouse tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/02/2024 03:18

Penguins, sounds like what my mum/mum's family did. A bit of cream was always added to soup, except always heavy (whipping) cream. I think single cream would be what we call Half and Half and is used for coffee.

I've had a piece of cake and am contemplating another. Havoc is watching Daniel Tiger on Netflix and baby is asleep on my lap. 🥰

Penguinsa · 24/02/2024 03:43

Yes single cream is used for floater coffees here, desserts are often with double cream which is same but thicker. Then we also have whipped cream and the awful squirty cream in aerosols which people put on hot chocolate etc.

DS is eating loads of food and drink now, all the meats, cheese, carrots, peas, potatoes, fish, limes, apple juice, orange juice, grape juice, bread, cottage pie, salmon and new potatoes, jacket potatoes with beans and cheese, meals from Chinese takeaway (spare ribs, scampi), red curry, steak and potatoes, roast dinners, cereal, milk and anything sweet etc. DH says things you previously thought DS will never take that are going from the fridge. 😎
