Enjoy your DDs graduation MissC

Have a lovely Victoria Day weekend Havoc

Welcome AnotherDay

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Dhs toe is slowly improving, its less red and a bit less painful. DS has been watching TV and DD has been revising. Her noise cancelling headphones are working really well.

Got some things from the shops - secateurs, sea bass, salad, radish, clotted cream ice cream and few other things. Brunch was smoked salmon and scrambled egg on toast with orange juice.

Had a banana split tonight and then a clotted cream milkshake.

MissConductUS · 19/05/2024 01:46

Welcome @Anotherdayanotherhangover, and thanks for sharing your calming Derbyshire tourism news.

Glad to hear infected toe is improving.

We are just back from dinner at the Blue Heron and it was lovely.

Penguinsa, are you on the banana split and clotted cream ice cream train? I remember the Portuguese tart ride! 😋 Your food sounds incredibly decadent!!!
Glad to hear meds are helping! 😅
Had to look up "secateur." 😂
Miss, sounds like the beginning to a stellar weekend! 👍
Another, Ashbourne sounds nice. Looks like there is a lot to do and see based on the tourism site. What took you there?

Spent the afternoon walking around Kits, stopped by pie shop again and bought a s'mores cookie and a mini lemon meringue pie. Bought Havoc a pinwheel. Our hockey team is losing 3-2 right now in a playoff game 6/6.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/05/2024 04:17

Miss, just took a look at that menu!!!! Tell me you had one of those delicious sounding desserts!
(pomegranate tart, ricotta cinnamon sugar doughnuts???)

IWanderedLonely · 19/05/2024 08:39

Hi all, thanks for the new thread Miss. The sun is shining here, hooray! I have lots more gardening to do today.

I did have dessert. I had the mixed berry crisp with house made vanilla ice cream. I had the grilled filet steak as my main course and both were fabulous.

Restaurant looks lovely MissC

Thanks Havoc, food sounds nice.

Iwandered Hope gardening went well.

Also gardening here today whilst we have good weather. Did about 1.5 hours with DH and got through a fair bit, cleared part of shed, cleaned chickens roof, BBQ and table and chairs etc, some weeding and trimming of plants and some more ivy down. Then had a nice bath.

Had a roast chicken Sunday lunch which was very nice. Just had a cup of earl grey tea and a shortbread biscuit.

DD has been revising a lot of the weekend and watching Netflix. Her brother was being a bit annoying in the night making noise but the headphones work very well for the day and they both caught up on sleep later. He's also been drinking lots of her oat milk, about 3 pints of it today. 🤔Floof has been sleeping on DSs bed.

MissConductUS · 19/05/2024 23:16

penguinsa, the restaurant was lovely. It sounds like both of your kids had a nice weekend.

Graduation was lovely. It was a bit chilly and damp at the start but warmed up later. It started at 10:30 and was over at noon. We took some pictures by a lake on campus afterward, then went to Five Guys for lunch with DD and her fiance. We hit some traffic in Connecticut on the way home but still made it in about three hours. DD is driving home tomorrow.

I feel like a right cow; I've had so many lush meals out this weekend.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo, you should make your hotel reservations now for graduation next year. As you know, the area is fairly rural, and there aren't many places to stay unless you want to drive up from Springfield. We stayed at a place called D Suites, and it wasn't far and perfectly acceptable for a short stay. Also, take a look at the restaurant I linked above. It's about 20 minutes north of the college and a great choice for a posh dinner out.

Sounds like a great weekend for all of you, Miss! We have 5 Guys here, too, but I've never been. 🤷‍♀️
Penguinsa, what a productive day for you! And topped off with a lovely dinner and a nice soak in the tub!

Hope everyone else has had a good weekend. ☺️

Spent some time at a local park with baby who seemed very interested in the water park features. Havoc and I walked around Granville Island later and I made dinner when we got home: chicken, tomatoes, green beans and chicken in garlic cream with rigatoni. It was a gorgeous day. 😍

HildaTablet · 20/05/2024 08:47

Glad the graduation went well MissC - sounds like a lovely day and a good weekend.

We've had nice weather here and, like Penguinsa, were out in the garden all yesterday. DH is in the process of repainting our garden chairs and benches. They were brown but we never liked the colour so they’re a sort of 'heritage' green now. He's still got the table to do. He also repainted the shed while I did more clearing of my veg beds preparatory to planting out my seedlings in due course. Runner beans are emerging and I only planted them (in pots) about 4 days ago! Everything is desperate to grow at the moment.

MissConductUS · 20/05/2024 14:46

Hilda, I'm behind in my garden chores for this time of year, so I'm envious of your gardening progress. It's lovely and sunny here today, and it's going to get hot this week. They're predicting a high of 25 degrees today and 30 for Tuesday and Wednesday.

I'm taking a day of annual leave to wind down from our weekend travels. I'm also going to get my teeth cleaned at the dentist, hopefully they'll stay shiny until the wedding.

Next weekend is our future son-in-law's graduation. We won't be attending due to a lack of tickets and logistical challenges. The President is giving the commencement address, and security is going to be very, very tight. We are going to a BBQ that his parents are throwing at the Airbnb they are renting for the weekend. They have lots of family members attending, so that's why they've run out of tickets.

Remarkably, I managed not to gain weight over the weekend despite all the restaurant meals and desserts.

Havoc, if you have a 5 Guys in your area, you simply must try it. They have the best burgers, fries, and milkshakes anywhere.

DD drove home from university this morning and is trying to unpack everything into her room. So the whole family is back under one roof until the wedding.

I went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned, and they noticed a problem with a loose crown that needs attention, so I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to see my specialist dentist (a prosthodontist). I'm happy they were able to get me in so quickly.

Glad graduation was lovely MissC

Great photo Havoc

Good to get gardening done Hilda The previous lady who lived here was retired but I think gardened a lot and we inherited a beautiful garden but were pretty busy first few years and now have a lot more time for it restoring it to its former glory again.

Phoned up to get Tamoxifen which is being sorted and also hospital to arrange the checks which hopefully will get appointment for. DD has A levels tomorrow and Wednesday. I have cahms discharge meeting for DS tomorrow, incredible they are discharging him but say they are short term. DS has been wearing a polo shirt which is first time recently seen him out of a long sleeved hoodie which is good so ordered him more t-shirts and also more socks, got plenty of shorts. Ordered him a new Amazon Fire as he seems to have a broken screen on his and its not much extra to get a new one. Ordered more tuna and cat nuts for Floof.

Been watching the Chelsea Flower show on BBC. I would have loved to have gone but tickets were sillily expensive and reviews not great and parking was an extra £46 plus £15 congestion charge and £120 each for tickets and then meals were from £75 each. 😱Other flower shows are so much cheaper but previously done Hampton Court and a few others.

DS and Floof were watching the gardens and birds together.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/05/2024 23:39

Penguinsa, those prices do sound outrageous. 😱
I've never heard of a congestion fee.

Today's outing was a no-go due to car not wanting to start (again). Will phone mechanic tomorrow. Very glad car didn't fail while I was out with dc. 😅

mathanxiety · 21/05/2024 15:58

Thanks for the new thread, MissC.

DD and I returned from the first of the summer weddings I'm going to. We had a great time despite cloudbursts and soggy footwear. I managed to get all the mud out, and the shoes and sandals are now dry.

86° F predicted here today. I'm in the process of moving my plants out to the deck. The sitting room and dining room will feel quite empty when I'm left with the year-round plants indoors.

MissConductUS · 21/05/2024 16:34

Havoc, NYC is about to introduce congestion pricing, following London's example. It will cost you $15 to bring a car into Manhattan during the day. What's going on with your car? It sounds like a recurring problem. You don't want to get stuck when you're out with the kids, that's for sure. Is there a motor club or automobile association you can join for road service or a tow if needed?

Penguinsa, it's great that your DS is changing his look a bit. It shows that he is gaining confidence.

Math, it's supposed to hit 85F here today and be hotter tomorrow. I moved my plants out a few weeks ago, and DH has turned on the water for the hose we have on the deck.

I must leave in a couple of hours to see the dentist about my loose crown. He's moved his office since the last time I saw him, and I'm hoping the parking will be okay at the new location.

We found out on Sunday morning that DD was graduating Magna Cum Laude. That was a pleasant surprise.

My calm news is that we have a new bed. It is really comfy. It is a Hemnes one from Ikea and I also bought new duvet covers and pillow cases. I feel like I'm in a hotel now. A hotel where there's a sofa full of dry washing waiting to be put away.

I also found the perfect police related cutting out/sticking picture for DS to do for his scissor skills practice (he's got dyspraxia). He finds cutting out laborious so this was a good motivator and he went off and did it happily. Win/Win.

Ladybird69 · 21/05/2024 19:08

@Deathraystare I know I can’t believe the huge jump in the price of groceries lately. I fancied a hot chocolate but it was £4.50!for a jar of options hot chocolate powder!!!! £4.50!!!!!!! Not even a nice hot chocolate such as green and blacks. 😟

HildaTablet · 21/05/2024 19:17

@Ladybird69 I know - I contemplated buying some of that recently and nearly fainted at the price. I found some in Asda (I think it was) for £3, and then saw it somewhere else for £2.50. So maybe a bit of shopping around might yield results, if you possibly can? It’s difficult if you haven’t got alternative stores, though….

bizzey · 21/05/2024 19:29

I am sat here ...well sprawled out ! waiting for a GP telephone appointment for mam.
The time bracket I was given was
15.43 - 19.43 pm (!)

I have carried my phone around ,the whole time, cooked and eaten dinner and gone to the toilet with my phone 🤣!

Well done to MissC 's dd !
Fantastic achievement 🎓🎓🌟🌟!

Glad the grad went well .

Ladybird69 · 21/05/2024 20:57

@HildaTablet I’ve found it on Amazon 6 jars for £20! That’ll keep me going for a while 😁 I never thought I’d see the day where the price of hot chocolate would make me think twice about buying it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/05/2024 22:07

Ladybird, Hilda, it's such gouge, isn't it when prices don't even match quality?

Car getting towed to the mechanic first thing tomorrow. Been raining all day here. Two loads laundry done. Baby napping. Toddler quiet, but eyes wide open. I made an apple pie last night before bed. I think I might have a slice now. I'll make a latte, too, and, as always, pop by for one if you're in the neighbourhood. I'm told I make excellent coffees! 😁

Penguinsa · 21/05/2024 23:17

Hope car is sorted soon Havoc

Congrats to your DD MissC

One more exam down for DD which went really well and another tomorrow.

Cahms discharge meeting for DS which was quite stressful as there's no way they should be discharging him, I am trying to insist an autism service picks up so we have someone as they just don't listen to parents and DS being mute they can't listen to him. After quite a battle they seemed to back down and agree.

Then went swimming, and to jacuzzi and chatted to a nice lady there and had a starbucks coffee there with DH which was nice and much needed after the meeting. Now can watch Below Deck.
