Penguinsa, sorry you had such a stressful day dealing with cahms. The system is really letting him down. Are they happy he's not receiving any education, then? 😡Am glad to know you got out for a swim. Glad exams are going well for your daughter.👍

KitKatChunki · 21/05/2024 23:36

I've just got sudden hunger and eaten a lot of strong Dutch cheese and tortillas in bed. I'm validating it for the B12 I'm getting from the cheese...

MissConductUS · 22/05/2024 00:40

My prosthodontist's new office is much nicer than the old one, and there is ample parking. It was also easier to get to. He was able to cement the crown back on but with much frowning about how long it would stay on. So a win all around.

Penguinsa, well done to your DD. I've read threads on MN about how much better the education system is in the UK compared to the US, but based on your experience, I don't think it's true. We have laws that mandate the provision of services for kids with special needs. It certainly wasn't a problem with our son, who had ADHD and a few other challenges.

havoc, do you know what's wrong with the car? Is it an old one?

Welcome, @KitKatChunki, and thanks for sharing your snacking news. Were they the soft tortillas or the crunchy ones?

OP posts:
KitKatChunki · 22/05/2024 00:46

Crunchy - I blame the Waitrose thread the other day as someone suggested them on there as a favourite. The dutch Beemaster cheese is addictive though.

I do have an actual B12 deficiency which makes it hard to eat much (recent diagnosis and awaiting nurse appt for injections) so when I get hunger it's quite exciting!

MissConductUS · 22/05/2024 00:57

Did the crunchy ones make a mess when you ate them in bed? Have you tried oral B12 supplements? Those would be much easier than the injections.

Place marking for when I eventually manage to catch up!

sproutsandparsnips · 22/05/2024 13:23

Nice to see you again Helena!
Congrats to your DD Miss!
Havoc that Apple pie looks delicious, you are so clever! DH was much taken with Granville Island when we visited. We went twice in the time we were there.
Penguinsa sorry about the issues with CAMHS, DS is being failed 😞
My washing got rained on yesterday. DS brought it in but too late. There had been no rain where I work (about 15 miles away) but an awful thunderstorm at home.
DS said his second AS chemistry paper went ok, just last maths and biology tomorrow and he is done for now.

Penguinsa · 22/05/2024 21:38

Thanks Sprouts Havoc and MissC 😎

Another A level down for DD which was fine, her lucky purple socks must have worked. Now a very welcome 8 day gap.

Been watching more of Chelsea flower show and would like to garden but its very rainy here and forecast is rain, rain, thunder, rain, rain, thunder and green bin is not collected for a week and jammed full. Black has been collected which is good. We now have 2 blue bins so recycling is never an issue.

Had pancakes for dinner. DH and Floof were having a lazy boys competition with DH in bed Floof about 3 metres away both wanting each other but neither would move. DH was saying Floof I am too tired to move because of my toe and Floof looked at him and yawned then 5 minutes later Floof yawned and put one paw forward then a second paw then flooped then 5 mins later yawned and staggered across. DD also sent her boyfriend a photo entitled Floof is missing when he was under my bed with his whole tail out and apparently he just saw the title and got panicked as he loves Floof but was happy when he saw the picture.

Umanresources · 22/05/2024 22:50

I’m loving all your updates.
MissC well done to your daughter on her graduation.
Havoc that looks like a fabulous apple pie, I only make savoury ones like chicken, or cheese and onion. Years ago we used to have friends here for Christmas Eve and I always made a meat and potato pie with a suet crust.
I’d like to apologise to the people in the UK, the rainy season is totally my fault! I bought some sunscreen after our two hot days. I knew I should have bought wellies 🤦🏼
In other news I had my hair cut and it’s no longer shoulder length, but is quite short. I keep getting a shock when I catch sight of myself in a mirror.
I’m pleased with my rhododendron in the front garden this year. The more I ignore it, the better it thrives.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 30: Calmly through the day
Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2024 06:19

Uman, I had a large bag of apples and worried they weren't going to get eaten fast enough! Pie crust was with butter (a very easy recipe!). I forgot to egg wash the crust, though. 🤦‍♀️ A short hair cut is likely a nice change! Good for you for being brave!!!👏
Sprouts, anything in particular you lked about Granville Island? Did you try doughnuts from Lee's or pies from that pie shop? The French bakery (a fave of mine)? Roger's Chocolates 😛😛😛😛 I love so many shops there. 😄 We had doughnuts from Lee's, watched the sea buses and the seagulls (predators that they are!). 😂
Penguinsa , pancakes for dinner - yes, please! Did you have your usual and dh was chef? Sounds like dd is on a roll! 👍 Floof sounds like a proper cat: Nah, can't be bothered to get up. Meow. 😺

Car to be repaired tomorrow. Chatted with mechanic today and part ordered. Mechanic has nice eyes.
Walked with Havoc to visit friend in hospital who was delighted by the surprise. Hasn't seen Havoc since Havoc was a baby and barely crawling. Made dinner of roasted chicken thighs, gravy, wild rice, roasted cauliflower with Chinese 5 spice 😛😛😛 and had left-over pie after walk after dinner with Havoc and baby who fell asleep in carrier. (That a bit of an awkward run-on sentence, I think.) 🤔
It was a very nice day and evening, especially considering it was raining cats and dogs yesterday.

sproutsandparsnips · 23/05/2024 15:29

Uman don't worry I won't hold it against you ( though not too much rain here only the brief storm). Rhododendron looks amazing!
Havoc DH had a pie, and pronounced it delicious. DH and the boys also bought belts........

mathanxiety · 23/05/2024 15:52

Congratulations to your DD on her achievement, MissC.

Penguinsa best wishes to your DD for her exams.
The frustration continues with CAMHS and DS' education, I see. But at least he seems to be returning to his old self.

Uman I cut mine short and embraced the gray recently. I'm not sure if short is sustainable for me, though I like the salt and pepper look. I have a while to think about it anyway.

I remembered to RSVP for the bridal shower DD and I have been invited to for the second of the summer weddings.

I also cleaned out thousands of emails after getting a notification that I was running out of storage.

On to posting an item I sold on Poshmark, doing laundry, hoovering, making lentil and veggie soup, and hanging up clothes that fell onto the floor when a clothes rack collapsed last night. I also have some impatiens to put in pots on the deck and need to go and buy catfood.

I will also be filling the hummingbird feeder and hanging it in the tree near the deck. I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet but I don't want to annoy them by being unprepared when they make an appearance. I haven't seen or heard the promised (threatened?) cicadas either for that matter, though there are droves of them further west and south.

Deathraystare · 23/05/2024 18:08

@Ladybird69 @HildaTablet

It annoys me that basic salad stuff you buy to add to a salad - your basic lettuce and cucumber is no longer a cheapie option!

However I am chuffed that the last two visits to Lidl I have bought about 5 items and it has come to just under £3 for five articles! However I do sometimes frown at the prices in their -like the milk being 90p a pint!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - yum. Apple pie!

Had a not particularly calm two days (warning - whinge alert!!!). In a few words. Universal Credit form filling in!!

I closed my claim in 2020. I need to claim again . It said is this a new claim or have you claimed before? So I put in my details as before. I got so far and it asked for my pin number I would have got from the job centre. I cannot remember that! So I rang them. Apparently I have to claim as new again. Fair enough. I get so far but when it asks for my email address it claims that is already used. Eh yes, by me. So I rang again and I have to have a completely new email address!! Why??!!! It also keeps asking me for codes (they send a code to your phone and ask you to put it in). Unfortunately my phone does not work where I work so I had to ask the porter for help. Today's problem (and I admit it is my own problem for not thinking ahead). I forgot my passport. They ask for the number and dates etc. For some reason, although I sent off details for the DBS certificate (another headache) the porter and I could only find my old passport details on my phone and computer. So will have to come into work again tomorrow just to use the computer!!

I brought in a lot of chocolate for this task. Well I cannot bring in alcohol on NHS premises!!!!

@mathanxiety

I suppose because I work in NHS I read that as putting inpatients in pots!

@MissConductUS Well done to your daughter

@Umanresources Love that rhodie!

@Penguinsa Pancakes - always a good idea!!

MissConductUS · 23/05/2024 20:07

Welcome, @Ladybird69, and please accept my apologies for not giving you a proper welcome earlier. The price of anything made with cocoa has gone way up in the last few months. There's a shortage reportedly, and chocolate lovers are all experiencing sticker shock. I think climate change is playing a role.

I'm taking tomorrow off, and Monday is Memorial Day here, so there it will be a four-day weekend for me. DH, DS and I are going to our future son in law's graduation party/cook out Saturday night. They've asked us to bring dessert, so I've ordered a lemon coconut sheet cake from the posh bakery. He chose the flavor after discussing it with our daughter.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2024 21:13

Cake sounds delicious, miss! Post a pic if able.
Sprouts, glad to know it wasn't disappointing! 😄👍
Penguinsa, quite happy to know it seems ds is improving. 🥰

Car fixed- yea! Got it washed after. Some sort of pitch on it that didn't come off.

Penguinsa · 23/05/2024 22:35

Great car is fixed Havoc

Sounds a lovely weekend MissC It's a Bank Holiday weekend here so we get 3 days of rain. 😂

Thanks Math

Good luck with UC Death

Lovely picture Uman

DS has now started making toasted cheese sandwiches in our sandwich toaster and has been listening to his ipad with headphones. DD has been out for dinner with her boyfriend.

The outdoor clothes order I did their computer system has been improved and has lost all the click and collect orders so mine has been cancelled and you cannot re-order at the moment under the 'upgrade' Not urgent at least.

Had salmon, mash and green veg for dinner and then an ice cream.

Ladybird69 · 23/05/2024 23:44

@@MissConductUS thank you for the welcome and thank you for the heads up about the shortage of cocoa, I’m going to have to fill the house with everything chocolate related. I’m not a nice person without my choc fix 🤣

Deathraystare · 24/05/2024 16:33

@Ladybird69
I’m going to have to fill the house with everything chocolate related

Not if I get there first! I have an appointment with Universal Credit next week so will need a shedload of chocolate!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/05/2024 22:25

Have done a bit of cleaning today, in particular a deep clean of the car (vacuumed, steam cleaned seats, cleaned windows) and used my steam cleaner to remove to pitch. 💡Feeling rather smug about that!
Add me to the chocolate dependant list. 😁
Grey and rainy here. Unsure what to make for dinner.

Penguinsa · 24/05/2024 22:55

Spent today filling in forms and calling people re DS but made some progress to be continued next week.

Hoovered all of upstairs mainly of Floof's fluff. Went swimming, to sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and collected 3 months Tamoxifen. DD was out with her boyfriend. Dinner was McDonalds but everyone was in the drive thru, guess its half term and a break in exams. Had a chicken big mac and a maltester mcflurry ice cream. Bank holiday weekend now but on BBC its forecasting rain and/or thunder for 13 out of the next 14 days.

MissConductUS · 25/05/2024 19:57

I finally got around to putting some flowers in planters for the deck.

Our future SIL graduated from uni this morning. We're off later to the AirBnB his parents are renting for a BBQ/party. We're bringing salad, ice, cookies, a gift for him, and the lemon coconut cake from the posh bakery. It's been a lovely day. DD attended his graduation with his family.

I'm not sorry they didn't have tickets for us. Security was very tight, as was parking and it's what DD called a "hot mess".

@Deathraystare oh you definitely deserve to have some chocolate! Best of luck with the universal credit appointment. @Mumtobabyhavoc welcome to the chocolate must have list. Hope there’s going to be enough to go around for us all 🤣

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/05/2024 21:58

Miss, how was the cake? Yummy flavour combo! Was that the military college? I caught a bit of the address on CNN.
Lady, thank you! Chocolate almost daily here! ☺️
Penguinsa, wish I could help. 😢

Today was soccer for Havoc. 😵‍💫me trying to get toddler to focus...
Have been testing food to baby's lips. Grape, mandarin orange, potato and apple so far. I think apple slice was a hit! Baby held my hand and sucked on the apple slice! 😛
I've been having latte failures lately. The foam won't hold. I use soy milk and I've only seen this when it, or milk, is not whipped at high speed. I wonder if my immersion blender is packing it in. It doesn't sound different/lower speed, though. Maybe the whisk is a bit bent? Anyway, it's a bit of a disappointment because I really look forward to my home lattes and feeling so smug at my barista skill and especially cost saving. 😢
I think I paid over $6 for a latte I bought for someone recently. Here, a 4l of milk is about the sane price at Costco or 2l lactose-free.

Penguinsa · 25/05/2024 22:00

Went down to Wisley again today which was lovely apart from very busy journey down as its half term.

Thanks Havoc Yes its crazy prices at our coffee places too like Starbucks, never use it normally apart from at pool where we get buy 1, get one free vouchers or 25% off and it was £8.45 for 1 medium drink (mango dragonfruit) and a small round cake.
