"DH and I did gardening today and filled the second green bin, about 2 hours 45 mins and then had a nice bath" Glad to know you're keeping the love alive, Penguinsa! 🙌👏👍😂 (Although you may be breaking the rules of the thread...) 🤔😁

Miss, I'm glad your day was drama-free. Sounds like a lovely service!💐

Havoc had soccer today then I braved the crowds and took Havoc to a street festival in a suburb, Burnaby,
for a couple hours. The weather held and it was very enjoyable.
The restaurants, bakeries, cafes and delis all had stands on the sidewalks; other businesses had games for prizes; Police officers had their cars at the road closure blockades and offered kids a look at their cars and gave stickers and suckers (lollipops); the community policing tent was raising money for their Cops for Cancer campaign with an officer riding a stationary bike; there were musicians/singers/bands along the way; the fire station had a vintage firetruck, rescue truck and regular firetruck out for kids to climb on and take pictures with and a dunk tank out front that, by donation to the burn fund, you could try throwing a ball to dunk the firefighter; and a beer garden. The Italian market was hosting a bbq (and beer garden, too, I think) and there were a couple of bouncy castle type things and some games for kids. This is an annual event, so if anyone is visiting it's worth checking out.

Havoc is now flaked out after having had a snack when we got home, but before having dinner. Those little feet were put to the test today as we walked a lot.

Dinner was simple, but turned out remarkably well (if I do say so myself!): poached salmon (ginger, garlic, s&p, soy sauce, maple syrup); boiled new potatoes with butter, sour cream and chives and roasted cauliflower with Chinese 5 spice.

Glad funeral went ok Miss.
What is a black and white cookie?
Your day sounds amazing Havoc.
Lovely picture Bizzey. You got so close!
Yesterday sounds productive all round Penguinsa, with lovely food too.
In boring and mundane news I have been to church this morning (not the boring or mundane bit) then had to de clog the washing machine filter and mop up the subsequent deluge. Then I used the newly declogged washing machine to wash the towels I had mopped up the deluge with.
Going swimming this afternoon and trying to help DS2 with his biology. We will clean his fish out later too.

HildaTablet · 02/06/2024 18:55

Glad the funeral was free of an extra element of stress, MissC.

Lovely day here today so DH raked up the grass from the lawn which he strimmed yesterday (we'd been doing No Mow May so it was ridiculously long, too long to mow) while I rotavated my veg patch, which I've finally cleared of weeds. So it’s now ready to plant into.

In the afternoon we finally put together a frame and net for growing runner beans/peas which I bought 6 years ago but never got round to using because it seemed so complicated to build. And guess what, it was! Luckily DH is very logical so he puzzled it out with the extremely minimal instructions. Still took us over an hour 🥴 It will be great though, as the wall I usually grew them up against isn’t really usable any more - my fig tree has taken over. What really made my eyes pop was finding the original receipt and discovering that the exact same item now costs almost £50 more….

Penguinsa · 02/06/2024 19:46

DH and I went to Sandringham and went round the gardens and lakes, saw the little church and went for afternoon tea there - lovely weather and lovely afternoon tea and they let us bring the cakes back in a box for DS - we had the sandwiches, savouries and scones and a huge pot of tea each.

Mon, Tues and Thurs A level exams for DD and Wed cancer checks for me so will be glad once we reach end of Thurs cancer results being OK of course. DD is very chilled which helps a lot. And DS is improving faster now, he washed his own clothes in the washing machine and drier and make himself hot dogs today as well as watched TV and he has taken his blackboard and pens with him and he's cleaning his teeth and using a bin.

Lovely weather here at the moment.

Thanks, Hilda.

I put zinnias in my two large self watering planters last on the deck last weekend and they're doing beautifully.

Penguinsa, that looks like a lovely tea. I wish we did afternoon tea here, but it's only done at a few hotels in NYC. What a lovely old church.

We went strawberry picking today. Our regular pick-your-own farm was fully booked, so we went to one much further north. By the time we were done, we had filled about two-thirds of that box. They weighed what we had picked, and it was a bit over six pounds, which surprised me.

Hilda, sounds like a busy, but accomplished one for you. 👍☺️
Miss, lovely pics. ☺️ I'm happy to know you've been outdoors enjoying such a nice activity. ☺️🩷
Penguinsa, tea looks fantastic - what a gorgeous table and locale. 😍 So glad to hear updates about your ds. ☺️👏🥳
Sending you positive thoughts for your check-up. 🥰

Did quite a cleaning blitz here this afternoon. Felt the need to get things at home in order in case I need to go to hospital as Havoc has been running a high fever since last night of 40c and it's not going below 38.3c with Tylenol & Advil. No other symptoms or signs of discomfort, but will call GP office tomorrow. Baby has slept all afternoon, but seems fine. Now having a 2nd latte and watching Paddington cartoons I've pvr'd with Havoc. I think I'll cook up another salmon fillet for dinner and have it with spaghetti, roasted bell peppers and cream as I have a few peppers to use.

Penguinsa · 03/06/2024 00:48

Thanks MissC Its the church the royals use in Sandringham, I like the little churches. Glad to see you are enjoying strawberry picking again.

Thanks Havoc Well done on cleaning but so sorry Havoc is ill again and you might need to go to hospital again. Hope things improve and sending love to you all.

Watching a previous race around the world from 2019.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2024 03:04

So relieved the funeral was peaceful, MissC.
What are you going to do with six pounds of strawberries?

Penguinsa good news about DS. The tea looks scrumptious.

I finished the sweeping of the deck and DD and zip did a deep clean of her room, including washing the curtains, turning the mattress, cleaning the ceiling fan blades, installing the window AC unit, pulling dressers and bed out from the walls, hoovering, mopping, and making a nice pile of clothes for donation. So much for the day of rest.

Deathraystare · 03/06/2024 15:38

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Sounds like you had a lovely day, walking little havoc's legs off! Gosh, they have been in hospital again? Hope all okay now.

I had a lovely Sunday - going twice to a launderette! To be fair I had left a bag there already to be collected by me. In between times I sat outside a cafe drinking lots of cold drinks!!

Friday was awful. I needed to pay a mobile phone bill and couldn't do it online so decided to go to a big Tesco in person. I was told there was one on a certain bus route but there wasn't. I then tried somewhere else but got off at the train station rather than a long long bus ride and thanks I guess to all the diversions never got near a busy main road. The bus went down several roads it apparently doesn't usually so had to squeeze past loads of parked lorries and vans. I ended up in Harrow and could not wait to leave!

Anyway, you will be pleased to hear that the Universal Credit visit was pain free! Although I felt very claustrophobic there! They make these places as unfriendly as possible! I only needed to show my present passport, P60 and bank card. Phew! I do get worked up about form filling in and having to go places with official documents.

@Penguinsa I really must pay more attention. I just noticed you say you were at Wisley and Sandringham - so you are possibly not from across the pond! It gets confusing though as America has some place names like ours! Good luck to your DD and yourself of course.

@mathanxiety Tires me out just reading all you have done. It was so warm yesterday I would have loved a little kip (rest) before going out again to pick up more washing but knew that would be fatal and I would not collect it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/06/2024 16:52

Morning all 🥱
Death, haven't you had a bit of a wayward bus trip trying to find a certain Tesco before? Are bus routes etc quite confusing there? Can you get someone to help you set up online payments?

Havoc woke with fever of 39c at 7am. I gave Tylenol + Advil and left a message with the GP's office asking for guidance. Seems ok for the most part except appetite decreases when fever increases, so keeping up on the medication ensures I can encourage some food/drink. Keeping Havoc home until I know more.

Penguinsa · 03/06/2024 17:11

Thanks Math Well done on getting so much done.

Hope Havoc improves Havoc

Well done on UC id checks Death good to have that out the way. Yes I am in England.

Today DD has gone for her psychology A level exam which should now be finished and she will come back later, has maths A level exam tomorrow. Think that is psychology finished now, she has 3 exams for each subject. Maths tomorrow is the first maths. I have ordered a Thai takeaway for us all who also do pizza so she has veg spring rolls and a veg pizza to help her get through this. She is very calm but very keen on lots of food. I will have sweet and sour veg and sticky rice. DH and DS will share the mixed starters (chicken satay, veg spring rolls, chicken spring rolls, prawn toasts, veg tempura) and a rump steak massaman curry (potatoes, tomato and peanut I think in a creamy curry sauce) and sticky rice.

DS made himself some hot dogs for lunch with water in a saucepan then the bread and also washed up the saucepan and has been watching TV. When I woke up Floof heard and started whimpering so think he was in with DS last night as then heard DS open his door and a trilling Floof came to see me wanting his morning tuna and a cuddle.

A pigeon got in with the silkies yesterday and it was 4 flapping birds, DH went to the rescue and calm was restored. Heard from cahms today they will discharge but he will get an autism keyworker from the nhs like I had been asking for, I am keen we have something otherwise you end up with nothing. The SN LA team most are off long term sick.

MissConductUS · 03/06/2024 21:19

Math, I'm trying a new method to keep them fresh longer. You rinse them in a weak white vinegar solution with a bit of baking soda, then rinse again in plain water. DH takes them to work as a snack. Last night, we had them on dessert shells with fresh whipped cream.

Penguinsa, I envy you all of your exotic takeaways. My first pregnancy ruined Chinese food for me, which is a shame as I used to love it, and DH still does. It sounds like your DS is getting into a good routine at home. I wish I could get my NT son to wash up after cooking something.

The deck garden is coming along. The begonias DH gave me for Mother's Day are still doing nicely, and the zinnias I started from seed are coming up nicely in the planters. I'm going to have loads of them.

@Penguinsa ...we are in the same situation as you with trying to get referred to the next stage after paediatric's.

Luckily we have fantastic GP who is working with his old Paed consultant to get the correct referral.

So frustrating.

Added to say ...
You would think the pathway would be a straightforward swop !

Penguinsa · 03/06/2024 22:50

Lovely dessert and plants MissC

Good luck getting the right pathway Bizzey I had to be very insistent to get ours, they were going to sign DS off to nothing.

bizzey · 03/06/2024 23:57

MissC ....is our long awaited wedding this weekend or next weekend ?

I am getting very excited now ! 😂😂

Ohh the poor love 😙.

Is she back home with you ?

Is everything going according to plan ?

Must be good having the wedding planner though , to sort out by last minute hiccups.

MissConductUS · 04/06/2024 01:53

She has been home since she graduated from uni a bit over a week ago. And thank God for the wedding planner! She made timelines for everyone so everyone will know what they’re supposed to be doing and when.

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Yes, I have a direct debit but am still paying off a large amount. Last time I got them to reduce the amount but still have some money extra to pay. There is another Tesco that I went to before but I am not sure if the bus is still on detour. I will find out this Thursday when I go!

@Penguinsa

Best wishes to your DD. Fingers crossed!

I had a rotten Monday as I found out two of my fellow workers who have been off ill are probably not going to make it. One I knew about but the other one I only guessed. Very sad indeed.

Deathraystare · 04/06/2024 14:32

@MissConductUS I have fond memories of the family picking fruit when we were younger. Not so fond memories of the blasted wasps that lay in wait for me though!!

mathanxiety · 04/06/2024 15:28

Deathray sad news about your co-workers.
Fingers crossed the detours will be sorted out soon.

Havoc hope Havoc will turn a corner soon. Fevers in little ones are very stressful. Do you have pedialyte there to keep him hydrated?

MissC and Penguinsa - sending positive vibes to both of your DDs.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/06/2024 19:51

Math, thank you. Haven't had to buy it as Havoc has been drinking water and milk and eating a bit. Thanks for reminding me, though. 🩷I notice when fever gets into the 39c range appetite/thirst decreases, which is why I'm closely monitoring fever.
Miss, wedding has come fast! How's your stress level?

Havoc has put wooden puzzle pueces into a cup and we are pretending to eat them. They are delicious! Baby is asleep. 😇It's cloudy and windy outside.

Penguinsa · 04/06/2024 20:30

Exciting about the wedding being so close MissC

Sorry about your colleagues Death and thanks for the good wishes.

Thanks Math

Hope Havoc is recovering.

Maths A level done first paper and then dinner with boyfriend and seemed OK. Had very broken sleep as DD was up until 3am then said to make sure she didn't sleep through leaving for exam so didn't like to go back to sleep but done now and next one on Thursday. Cancer checks tomorrow eek but will be good to get them done.

Anotherdayanotherhangover · 04/06/2024 20:51

Miss that's cone round quickly - it seemed ages away when you told us. I'm sure you'll all have a wonderful, memorable day

We're on a week's holiday in Pembrokeshire, having a wonderful time, despite having a tight budget. Luckily the weather has been kind. We're going to Pembroke Castle tomorrow.
My dull news is that I sold 3 items on Vinted so I've had to ask my DD to pack & post them for me. The thank you chocolate will cancel out the money I made, but at least it's 2 things less in my house.
