What do you eat on shrove Tuesday

Do you eat just pancakes for your evening meal, in which case do you feel like you've actually eaten a meal? Or do you have a normal meal and a pancake pudding?
Growing up we just had pancakes but it kinda feels like I should actually give my family a proper meal and not just sugar 😆 so I'm not sure what to do this year

Watching with interest…….we were discussing this tonight - usually I do a meal with pancakes for dessert but sons girlfriend thought that was very strange and just has pancakes at her house….shes with us next Tuesday for dinner so I’m not sure what to do! Savoury pancakes followed by sweet ones??

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 08/02/2024 22:43

Savoury pancakes - normally something simple like cheese and ham / cheese and garlic mushrooms. Then sweet ones for pudding.

ZenNudist · 08/02/2024 22:43

Errr.... is this a trick question?

We have normal breakfast and lunch, but dinner is savoury pancakes followed by sweet.

Passthecake30 · 08/02/2024 22:44

I have hungry/greedy teens and a builder partner who would need about 15 pancakes each if that was just dinner. We have a light dinner first, normal type of meal but smaller portion, and then they’ll have 8 each instead.

AnotherEmma · 08/02/2024 22:44

Savoury then sweet pancakes.

Well, DH is French, so it's galettes followed by crêpes - different recipe for each.

Qwerty21 · 08/02/2024 22:44

See the other thing with just doing pancakes is that they aren't very filling, so to make enough to fill us all I'll be at the hob for ages, and I just don't know if I CBA with that lol

We have pancakes as the main meal. My parents have a normal dinner and pancakes for pudding. Far too filling in my opinion.

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/02/2024 22:45

Pancakes as pudding or breakfast .
Never heard of anyone having them for an evening meal and I’m 50+!

Qwerty21 · 08/02/2024 22:45

*I appreciate we may just be greedy and others might only eat two pancakes each as their entire evening meal but that's not going to cut it in the qwerty house

We have pancakes at breakfast time. I'm in Scotland so we have Scotch pancakes with maybe butter or butter and jam. Have never had them as a dinner so that's a strange concept to me

Savoury pancakes are filling. The classic cheese, ham and egg is very filling. One of those plus one with smoked salmon and I'm full enough to move onto the sweet ones!

Yep, I have 19 and 21yos and they get through a scary number of pancakes 😂 we all take turns cooking and eating!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 08/02/2024 22:48

pancakes In the form of waffles for breakfast, normal lunch and dinner.

cariadlet · 08/02/2024 22:49

We just have sweet pancakes for dinner on Shrove Tuesday. Nothing fancy - help yourself to jam, sugar, lemon juice and/or fruit (eg blueberries, raspberries).

It's what we had growing up in the 70s/80s so I've always just done the same. Never really thought about it.

We have a proper dinner for the rest of the year, honest!

mondaytosunday · 08/02/2024 22:50

As @Tinkeytonkoldfruit says - savoury! I once had a dinner party and we had crepes with lots of savoury fillings then sweet ones for dessert!
@43ontherocksporfavor what?!? You haven't lived!

LWSnow · 08/02/2024 22:51

Pancakes with sugar, syrup, jam. Nutella anything really.
It's one day and the y have eggs and milk in them so not entirely junk

Qwerty21 · 08/02/2024 22:51

We're definitely not an up and with it enough in the morning sort of family to be making pancakes for breakfast midweek, frankly even on a weekend the most I tend to stretch to is porridge instead of cereal

Happiestathome · 08/02/2024 22:52

Sweet pancakes are our evening meal that day - as is the tradition from my childhood. It’s not good for you, but it’s only one day so I don’t mind

TheChosenTwo · 08/02/2024 22:53

Pancakes for breakfast and then for pudding.
I hate that awful feeling after a sugar rush has passed when you’re still actually hungry because all you’ve consumed is empty sugary goodness 😂
So we do a normal ‘proper’ dinner and then do the rest of the batter from breakfast (in normally make a triple batch).

Grumpynan · 08/02/2024 22:53

I’m not that bothered about pancakes 😱 DH isn’t either so haven’t bothered the last couple of years we’ve been on our own, this year my son will be with us, and after a full day of work I know he will be starving. I’m thinking of making a butternut soup ( his favourite ) then pancakes with lemon and sugar

Fanniefarts · 08/02/2024 22:54

They would be more a pudding an hour or two after dinner. Who couldn’t manage a couple of pancakes with lemon and sugar.

Copperoliverbear · 08/02/2024 22:54

We just have a few pancakes with a choice of, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, ice cream, sauces, Nutella or all of the above 🤣🤣 and no dinner x
