What do you eat on shrove Tuesday

Do you eat just pancakes for your evening meal, in which case do you feel like you've actually eaten a meal? Or do you have a normal meal and a pancake pudding?
Growing up we just had pancakes but it kinda feels like I should actually give my family a proper meal and not just sugar 😆 so I'm not sure what to do this year

I'm going to stick with just pancakes I think. I'll do cheese and ham and maybe even fried mushrooms first, then let them fill their boots with sweet pancakes. It is only one day a year after all I guess!

American style pancakes, sometimes with breakfast style additions like eggs, bacon, sausages, and fruit for pudding.

mollyfolk · 08/02/2024 22:57

Ongoing argument with the DH. I have pancakes for dinner - lots of toppings, I go all out and make my own Nutella. That’s the fun of pancake day.

Pancakes for sure. Unlikely to be organised enough for breakfast, but savoury (bacon, tomato and cheese, or maybe leftover curry or chilli/ veg in a white or tomato sauce from a previous meal) followed by sweet - fruit, ice cream, maple syrup, lemon and sugar. I always remember the year I put all the toppings on the table at once and DD had cheese and sugar in the same pancake!

Savoury pancakes - normally something simple like cheese and ham / cheese and garlic mushrooms. Then sweet ones for pudding.

This - but haven't done garlic mushrooms before and now will be!

Lol did she like it?! It's the one time we let our lo have their choice of syrup, ice cream and Nutella in one pancake

Pancakes for dinner. Nothing else

Mumski45 · 08/02/2024 23:13

Ricotta and spinach wrapped in home made pancakes then baked on a bed of tomato sauce with a Parmesan crust on top.

Then lemon and sugar pancakes for supper.

GeneCity · 08/02/2024 23:19

Dear God, I'd have to eat ~40 pancakes to not also need a proper dinner first.

Deadringer · 08/02/2024 23:29

I don't really like pancakes but everyone else in the house would be heartbroken if we didn't have them on Pancake Tuesday so I suck it up. I usually have a couple with bacon and maple syrup, or I will stuff one with salmon and cream cheese. If I fancy a sweet one I will have the traditional lemon and sugar.

Bankholidayhelp · 08/02/2024 23:29

Sweet pancakes only at tea time. About 4 each. Banana, Nutella, sugar, treacle, lemon juice.

Then about an hour later a fridge raid/crisp sandwich...

OhSnow · 08/02/2024 23:32

We just eat our normal meals. I hate pancakes so I never make them.

Tewal · 08/02/2024 23:34

Prank cakes for dinner, just sweet ones normally just sugar and lemon

Don't your kids mind?

HelloDarlingWhatAreYouDoingHere · 08/02/2024 23:39

DC have pancakes, but we have a normal dinner.

Pascha · 08/02/2024 23:43

Just normal food. Nobody really likes pancakes in our house.

ColdButSunny · 08/02/2024 23:46

Just pancakes here. Savoury and sweet. I make loads of batter so everyone can have as many as they want!

Sidehustlequestion · 08/02/2024 23:46

Definitely a pudding in our house. I don’t think DP would be impressed if it was pancakes for his main meal! Though I have a very sweet tooth and would be happy with it. We’re in Scotland so scotch pancakes for us.

171513mum · 08/02/2024 23:47

Pancakes for every meal if we're at home! Including savoury ones for main meal.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/02/2024 23:48

Ham and cheese pancakes, then banana and nutella pancakes, then lemon juice and sugar pancakes. Yum.

Redglitter · 08/02/2024 23:49

I never have pancakes on shrove Tuesday. They're not something I eat. It wouldn't occur to me to buy them specially. If it wasn't for all the pancake photos I'm sure we'll be subjected to on SM I doubt I'd even realise the day 😳

AliceMcK · 08/02/2024 23:57

Pancakes with lemon and sugary for DH & I, the DCs put Nutella or what ever they want on.

Yes I take the whole day very seriously 🤣. It’s much Nicer than the real Nutella.
