What do you eat on shrove Tuesday

Do you eat just pancakes for your evening meal, in which case do you feel like you've actually eaten a meal? Or do you have a normal meal and a pancake pudding?
Growing up we just had pancakes but it kinda feels like I should actually give my family a proper meal and not just sugar 😆 so I'm not sure what to do this year

We just have them for breakfast. Normal food the rest of the day. Growing up we had them for pudding on Shrove Tuesday. I don’t think there are any real rules to pancakes

we’re big eaters normally, why must I pretend I’m satisfied by empty calories just because it’s pancake day??

I agree on the unbalanced meal point, but flour, eggs and milk aren't really empty calories, especially if you're having them with fillings that aren't just sugary.

@kennycat I cook mine in about 60 seconds, really thin pan, very hot, blob of butter and in with the batter (just enough to cover the base of the pan), let it sit for about 40 seconds, quick flip and 15 seconds on the other side.
Obviously if you’re doing the thicker American pancakes they do take longer but you can get more than one of those in at once or we have a hot plate thing on the side of the hob for making those.
Dh fundamentally doesn’t believe in any quick cooking though, he cooks them low and slow in an heavy cast iron frying pan and they’re all stodgy and gloopy. He does the majority of the cooking in our house and he’s very good at it but his pancakes are shit so the kids ban him from making them and I step up 😂

Mine just don’t seem to sizzle. I have an induction hob on the highest setting but still they take a while. I do thin ones. I need to practise!

@kennycat - we use two pans. So cool twice as many at once. Have induction and use number 8. No idea how long exactly but quicker than most meals we make. It’s quicker making a whole batch of pancakes than say mash potatoes

In the end I forgot! I had to drop some stuff off with DS at his dorms and bless him, he presented me with a homemade pancake in a plastic bag!

it’s still in my handbag as as soon as he done got a call from the hospital about some results (dam bugger hell) and work went crazy yesterday and I completely forgot. I guess it’s still ok to eat!

We had savory pancakes with a choice of fillings including mushroons in sauce, leftover beef stew from earlier in the week, ditto lentil and veg casserole. Also grated cheese and bacon and spinach. All extremely filling.

Pudding pancake options either nutella or nmarshmallows or lemon&sugar

Savoury pancakes then sweet pancakes.

Umbrella15 · 14/02/2024 14:38

We have pancakes as our main meal. With all the fillings we put in them, they become quite filling.
