Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

9 in hosp now, the police only
minor injuries.

It’s such a pretty little street. 3 down from where Sarah Everard was taken.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 31/01/2024 23:09

Just seen this and feel sick. I think anybody who attacks with acid should face a minimum 20 years in jail. It’s evil and we should have zero tolerance. That poor ku and her little kids.

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:10

The man who did it is on the run, reassuringly for locals.

What a horrible world we live in , really makes me sad to bring children up in this.
What tf is wrong with people !
Do they know who did it …..

This sort of (at this stage, seemingly) random attack makes my blood run cold. There but for the grace of God...

soundsys · 31/01/2024 23:17

Have you got a link? Doesn't seem to be on BBC News yet?

warmheartcoldfeet · 31/01/2024 23:17

I doubt it was random. I suspect it's possibly gang related.

A traffic collision (attack happened after an accident) where police are already present and get caught up in the incident, and where the perp is already carrying acid (who carries acid randomly?) and doesn't care about the police? Pretty unlikely it's random. Not impossible, but not probable.

BarbieDangerous · 31/01/2024 23:20

Awful stuff, absolutely awful. Only 15mins away from me too. How one targets children is just unbelievable

MaggieFS · 31/01/2024 23:20

@Cazpar I hadn't read that police were already on scene. And you make good points.

Just awful for all caught up in it.

SquirmOfEels · 31/01/2024 23:23

Police are describing the attack as "horrific.

Details not completely clear, but

  • happened about 7:30 this evening
  • according to a London Assembly member, a man had thrown a substance (variously described as "acid" or "corrosive") at occupants of a car after a crash.
  • woman and two children involved (possibly in the car)
  • 9 injured - the others believed to be passers by who tried to assist and police officers
  • Injuries to the police are described as not serious
  • one was casualty discharged at scene without being taken to hospital, 5 taken to a major trauma centre, 3 to a local hospital
  • no word on condition of the other
  • fire service also attended scene
  • suspect not yet apprehended - manhunt underway

As the nearest hospital is St Georges Tooting (major teaching hospital; about 2 miles from there) I'm really wondering why they needed to send 5 elsewhere and thoughts are very much with those in hospital and all those who have helped (passers by and emergency services) plus all medical staff

(Edited to add: above points mainly taken from the SKY version, other outlets might have different/more info)

The Belvedere hotel
at the end of lessar road is a large and nice Victorian hotel facing Clapham Common that’s now dedicated to small-boat asylum
seekers. There’s loads of mums and babies living there - I really hope the nutter hasn’t targeted them.

EasternStandard · 31/01/2024 23:26

God that’s horrendous

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:28

Just seen he targeted car 🚘 occupants. It’s a good 5 min drive away from Clapham High St ie murder mile.

Baggies of old meth all over the pavement, I walked up there on Sunday.

I wasn't aware of that, that's quite a sinister thought. Especially since certain sections of twitter are practically wetting themselves with excitement at the prospect it's been carried out by certain races and religions and it's giving them an opportunity to rant about their cause celebre.

Perhaps not gang related then, but I think it seems like it was targeted.

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:29

For all its value, I’m not convinced Twitter raises the tone.

I would imagine they have taken the other 5 elsewhere as STG doesn't have a burns centre

The same thing that's always wrong with people who do things like this. They're angry / stupid / mentally unwell / desperate / being coerced...

When you say “people” it’s 9 out of 10 times a man responsible.
We really need to use the right words if we want to tackle this.

SquirmOfEels · 31/01/2024 23:32

All the media seem to have to go on at the moment is the statement (on twitter) from Assembly Member Marina Ahmad, who talks about a traffic collision and a man assaulting occupants of a car. It says 3 police who responded were injured. It doesn't say when they arrived on the scene.

Police hoping to provide update on condition of those injured

Then tell that to the OP.

How about twisted, nasty fuckers?

TiredCatLady · 31/01/2024 23:35

That’s beyond horrific. Actually feel sick reading it.

Anyone convicted of this sort of thing needs to be going down for life - I’ve seen acid victims up close, it’s not something you forget. Anyone in doubt, read the victim statements, the suffering is permanent.

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:38

I agree - a) it’s pretty safe to assume this sort of perp is a man b) the police said it was a man.

Permanent If you’re alive - acid attack on a kid not necessarily survivable.
