Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

Nothing to do with mental health (or culture) and everything to do with being a toxic entitled male, once again. Lets not make excuses, these men are evil.

See also Emma Pattison and her daughter.

This. People tie themselves up in knots trying to find other possible explanations when it's plainly obvious from the outset that it's male violence against women. It's not 'people' carrying out these attacks, it's men. Against women. Overwhelmingly. She will have been trying to escape him or there'd been escalating violence prior to the attack.

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 01/02/2024 10:46

It sounds like the perpetrator was really physically attacking the 3 yo girl as well, repeatedly throwing her against the ground. What the hell is wrong with men like this. I could kill him. My DD is nearly 3 and in nursery right now and the very thought of someone hurting her that way makes me just want to run up the road and hug her and never let go. This awful world :(

JamSandle · 01/02/2024 10:47

Makes me want to avoid people.

It will be a domestic.

I never said it wasn’t. Subjecting anyone, especially children, to an acid attack is absolutely horrific. That was my point

Nightowl1234 · 01/02/2024 10:53

For those closet racists jumping on this to justify their vile opinions - get your facts straight. The attacker and all victims are white. As seen by eye witnesses and reported to the police and media. Keep your prejudice to yourself.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims ❤️

That poor family. I have no words.

The sentencing for acid attacks is usually quite low, because it predominantly affects women.
I think acid attacks should carry a full life sentence without possibility of parole, nobody who can commit an acid attack is safe to be released publicly.
It's one of the worst forms of violence imo.

Law changed in 2019.

Carrying acid/other corrosive substance is became a criminal offence with 6 month penalty

Using it in course of an attack became an aggravating factor that increases length of sentence.

Not sure about full numbers of attacks, but I'd always thought it was most common in gang and drug related assaults.

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 01/02/2024 10:55

A woman said she rescued the three-year-old girl after she was “thrown from a car.” Bus driver Shannon Christi, 35, said she heard a bang and someone shouting for help in the street, and ran outside from her flat that overlooked the scene.
She said she helped a girl who told her she was three, and tried to help her older sister.
Christie said the attacker was wearing black clothes and felt he “definitely” knew the victims. She said: “I heard bang and I heard someone saying ‘help’.
“I run outside and as I run outside I’ve seen this guy throwing a child on the floor, he picked her up and threw her again. So at that point I ran in and I grabbed her and took her into my block.”

Credit to this brave woman who may have saved the little child's life. Must have been terrifying but she didn't think twice.

Just seen he targeted car 🚘 occupants. It’s a good 5 min drive away from Clapham High St ie murder mile.

Baggies of old meth all over the pavement, I walked up there on Sunday.

”Murder mile” was in Clapton not Clapham!

Goldenbrowntexturelikesun · 01/02/2024 10:58

Those poor little girls, to think they have probably witnessed some awful DV in their shorts lives and now this, poor darlings.
I hate so many men in this world.

TousBous · 01/02/2024 11:00

@Saschka @SquirmOfEels @Supersimkin2 STG is one of the 4 major trauma centres in London but I believe the Royal London is the only one of them with a specialist burns team.

Jesus that is horrific. What kind of person does that to a child? Let alone a child they presumably lived with and even superficially cared for for 9 years? I hope he is still alive and has to live with what he has done in prison for the rest of his life, with a few punishment beatings a day.

35965a · 01/02/2024 11:04

Sounds absolutely horrendous. It is heartening that so many people tried to help, even getting injured in the process, it must have been terrifying. I hope their efforts were enough to save the mother and her children.

Boke · 01/02/2024 11:13

Met police on TV now. Started by having a little laugh about football. Now on to hate crimes, terrorism and racial abuse and they're looking for a person. Not one single word about it being a domestic violence attack and male violence. Not one single word. Just described as a ghastly attack between, "2 people who know each other".

tempnameforadvice · 01/02/2024 11:14

@Supersimkin2 are you high? Murder Mile? You clearly haven't been to Clapham. Especially Clapham South.

mehyeahok · 01/02/2024 11:19

It seems some outlets want to try to make it into a racial incident. Easier for them to stoke hate and keep ignoring that it is always men and their families that die and are attacked.

Those poor children. I'd happily donate to a Go Fund Me for reconstructive plastic surgery. I imagine that if they survive their lives will be ruined and he won't be paying maintenance from behind bars, let's face it.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 01/02/2024 11:24

And it wasn't a mile even in Clapton just a sound bite from back in the 80s.
NHS will do the surgery I'd happier chip in though to pay for a top barrister to represent the victims in addition to the cps.

I think you missed an obvious word there OP - men. The perpetrators of this crime are almost always men.

And as soon as I read the headline yesterday I knew it was a man attacking his family. I don’t know how we stop it, or even reduce or, but let’s start calling it what it is first, maybe that will help?

And let us never excuse it by citing mental health or disadvantaged childhood or any other misfortune that many, many people manage to come through without resorting to the depraved violence that men like this repeatedly resort to.

Cazpar · 01/02/2024 11:33

MaggieBroonofGlebeSt · 01/02/2024 10:41

I hope you're not being serious! Plenty of people are mentally unwell or desperate and don't throw acid at children.

I see you've conveniently ignored "stupid / angry" in your post.

I've only ever known of acid attacks used on women, usually dealers, locally anyway, shoot each other.

I weep for humans you know, fucking despair at their depravity.

EasternStandard · 01/02/2024 11:35

And also people were injured whilst helping

Made me so sad, a bit tearful

Just awful

Ok, well you can be very stupid or very angry and not throw acid at kids. Happy now?
I've been pretty angry at times in my life, (as have most people) had MH problems and not once have I ever thought I'll attack some children with acid.

I think there was a case where it was a gang and a man was injured by acid - a nightclub? But yes usually it's an attack on a woman.

Mojodojocasahaus · 01/02/2024 11:43

Another example of male violence towards women and children. It will be a domestic. That poor woman and her kids

Of course you can.

The fact remains that people don't tend to physically harm others when they're calm and well-adjusted. You might not like it, but it's true.

The Belvedere hotel
at the end of lessar road is a large and nice Victorian hotel facing Clapham Common that’s now dedicated to small-boat asylum
seekers. There’s loads of mums and babies living there - I really hope the nutter hasn’t targeted them.

A BBC News update at 11:38

We've just heard from the Clapham South Belvedere Hotel - which sits on the corner of Lessar Avenue, where last night's alkaline attack took place.

They say that at 19:25 last night, "police and ambulance services were called to attend a serious incident in which guests at the Belvedere Hotel were a victim".
It's not clear which people caught up in last night's attack were guests of the hotel.

A statement continues:

Quote Message: Belvedere Hotel staff, having supported the work of the emergency services, provided assistance to the guests affected and sought to reassure other hotel guests as to their safety and wellbeing.
