Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

I would imagine they have taken the other 5 elsewhere as STG doesn't have a burns centre

I'm surprised at that

But I've just had a google, and it is listed as the major trauma centre for SW London, so had been wondering if maybe the 5 most serious are there and the others have gone to other nearby hospitals (St Thomas being the next easiest to drive to from there, Kings also not far). But of course that wouldn't make sense if StG's lacked that service

(Realise this is very much a side issue - but where is the nearest burns unit for that part of London?)

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:43

Ugh. It was just by the small boat hotel.

Chelsea and Westminster, I think. Not sure if they do paeds burns or not.

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:44

Prob kings - they do more war/violence injury than St G.

Kings def don’t have a burns unit.

Supersimkin2 · 31/01/2024 23:48

Thanks.

I see 0 racial or religious re this on Twitter, luckily.

The Belvedere hotel
at the end of lessar road is a large and nice Victorian hotel facing Clapham Common that’s now dedicated to small-boat asylum
seekers. There’s loads of mums and babies living there - I really hope the nutter hasn’t targeted them.

I didn't think that Belvedere Hotel Clapham (owned by London Hotel Group) was connected to the group of hotels/hostels/centres operated by Stay Belvedere Hotels Ltd. Or am I just unable to keep up with who own/runs what?

PickUpFullOfPinkCarnations · 01/02/2024 00:04

Jesus, I've just caught up and this is horrific. Unlikely to be a random attack surely.

Awful stuff, absolutely awful. Only 15mins away from me too. How one targets children is just unbelievable

It will be a domestic.

TakeMe2Insanity · 01/02/2024 02:09

Again awful. Its very local to me. Acid attacks by their nature tend to be personalised. The hotel tends to have asylum seekers not all of them from small boats.

OzziePopPop · 01/02/2024 02:20

SammyScrounge · 01/02/2024 01:56

It will be a domestic.

Probably, sadly.

my thoughts are with those affected, especially those poor children.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/02/2024 02:28

It will be a domestic.

Attacks on children typically are. Men thinking they own women and children and can dispose of them how they like.

StandardLFinegan · 01/02/2024 02:39

What goes in the mind of someone who does this? To actually gain satisfaction from causing someone so much pain and fear? To attack a child? Even if you were angry with someone initially, wouldn’t you think about it as you sat there with acid in a cup? That level of pre-meditation is chilling.

memedear · 01/02/2024 03:04

If it's not random, the perp will be identified very quickly. I should hope.

DecisionFatigue · 01/02/2024 05:01

Horrific.

BBC article states that one of those injured was the perpetrator’s partner but doesn’t mention that she was in the car, so perhaps she was trying to stop him?

They do.

Marcby · 01/02/2024 06:24

A witness said to Sky News that the man was having an argument inside the white car with the woman and then they went out of
the car and had a fight in the street; then the woman started to cry “I can’t see” and the man came back to the car and tried to run her over so crashed the car. The man also took one on the young girls and slammed her twice against the floor. Very sad and horrific event but it does not seem to be a random attack. I hope the police and the news soon clarify.

SquirmOfEels · 01/02/2024 08:25

Has there been any description of the person the police are looking for, other than it is a man?

An attacker who is prepared to use this amount of violence needs to be caught ASAP

AgnesX · 01/02/2024 08:28

SammyScrounge · 01/02/2024 01:56

It will be a domestic.

My first thought was partner/family.....

EasternStandard · 01/02/2024 08:30

I very much hope they arrest him soon

ThePoshUns · 01/02/2024 08:33

My initial thought is it will be a domestic incident, sadly.

themusingsofaninsomniac · 01/02/2024 08:34

I also thought possibly father of the kids and in some kind of crazed reactive state. Maybe about access to them, as he's clearly an abusive partner and father!

It's taking a long time for them to release details.. and agree not very assuring to those in the immediate area!

Angrycat2768 · 01/02/2024 08:42

SammyScrounge · 01/02/2024 01:56

It will be a domestic.

That was my first thought too. First I thought 'what kind of man decides to scar his young daughters for life?' But then I remembered how many men look into their children's eyes as they kill them.

SquirmOfEels · 01/02/2024 08:43

SKY has short (B&W, mute) footage of the attack. Won't describe it here, but it's on their website if anyone wants to look. It's not high enough resolution to show what the attacker looks like.
