@petalpower
@autumnangel

@RunningKatie
@LateSummerLobelia
@Aria999
@Mumtobabyhavoc

and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Fabulous @SpiritOfEdna thank you!

Peridot1 · 19/09/2023 14:48

Well done and thanks for the new thread @SpiritOfEdna.

I can’t say I enjoyed my PT session exactly…….. I can still walk. Although feel a bit wobbly. Will see how I feel tomorrow!

petalpower · 19/09/2023 14:57

Fantastic. Thank you @SpiritOfEdna !

RunningKatie · 19/09/2023 15:35

Thank you! So sorry, need to read back on the last thread, the misery that was the return to school has escalated to vomitting en route. Going to look around a possible alternative later in the week, I do worry it'll be same sh1t, different location.
What I'd give for a crystal ball right now!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/09/2023 16:54

Oh, no, Katie! That sounds awful. Why so anxious about school?

I'm admitting (temporary) defeat in the painting dept. Didn't get to laundry closet. Bedrooms, dining area, front entrance including closet and one bathroom wall painted bright, blinding, white. 😎
Although I'm sure it's also partly contrast to old painted walls and ceiling which also need a make-over. That will have to wait until floors are done.
Most items packed up and put away. Will (must) finish clearing and packing today. Will be gone 4 days, return home for two nights, then out for full day Monday to facilitate flooring. Workers to arrive tomorrow morning. Need to pack suitcase(s) as well. Hoping for one large suitcase only.🙏
(the 'fingers crossed" emoji has disappeared....?)

SingleThreadJoiner · 19/09/2023 18:30

deep breath... Hello 👋👋 I have been lurking and reading your threads for AGES and was too shy to join though I started doing things and imagining in my head how I would post about them 🤦then I told myself that I would join in the new thread and I signed up to Mumsnet just for this!

You seem like such a friendly and encouraging lot and I have been so inspired by you...

Today I did a wash, put some laundry away, and made a cake with some grapes that noone in the family was eating.

ThunderclapCloud · 19/09/2023 19:30

Hello @SingleThreadJoiner lovely to have you here 💐 All achievements are cheered on whether big or small! Impressed that your grapes made it into a cake. Mine never get a chance as I eat them too quickly!

@RunningKatie sympathies - it's heartbreaking when they get so upset! I think you're probably not alone with school issues here. One of mine came out and we did home ed for a bit, then she went to sixth form college.

I am dazzled what you have achieved @Mumtobabyhavoc and I'm taken with the notion of all white walls. Very elegant!

👋 everyone else, sorry just got in and bit knackered so won't tag you all.

My project success today was just tackling a pile of grot that's sat in the lounge for a couple of weeks. It's been variously put away, thrown or shredded, and it all looks much neater now.

Aria999 · 19/09/2023 20:30

Hi @SingleThreadJoiner 😊

Aria999 · 19/09/2023 20:36

@Mumtobabyhavoc I love white walls, it looks so fresh! When we moved into our house the master bedroom (a dark room at the best of times) was painted dark gray, not sure why anyone thought it was a good idea but white walls transformed it!

@RunningKatie that's very hard. I suppose even if a new school isn't any better in the end then at least a chance at a fresh start might help. Can you discuss issues with new school in advance?

@ThunderclapCloud glad you are sounding so positive about your decision!

Hi everyone else!

My client has yet again (3rd time now) decided on a completely different approach for modeling their projected income so I am again unexpectedly working this week. Which is good financially but not good for my project list!

LateSummerLobelia · 19/09/2023 20:44

Lobelia checking in present and correct,

Very good to have you @SingleThreadJoiner Smile

And anyone else lurking we would love to have you as well!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/09/2023 00:53

Thanks for the encouragement Thunder and Aria. 😊 I do like white and have all white towels and bedding. So easy to clean, especially when a bit of bleach is req'd. It does feel fresh to me as well. I'm thinking of contrasting with a navy area rug in the living/dining area. We shall see...
Rain has started here and we badly need it. Drought conditions here since spring. ☔️

ThunderclapCloud · 20/09/2023 05:58

Good morning all! Your chutney sounds sounds lovely @petalpower. Our glut is mostly tomatoes. Also need to clear vegetable beds.
Happy packing @Peridot1 Sounds like you are keeping busy! Hope DS is settling in ok.
Hello @LateSummerLobelia I hope all is well round your way!
Kettle boiling job was cleaning the fluff out of the tumble dryer and I have cleaned the soap drawer in the washing machine. Have swept the kitchen floor too. And I did wordle in 3!

Navy rug with all the white sounds crisp and lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc! @Aria999 you must be a consultant or accountant or something clever!

@SpiritOfEdna I didn't realise you joined because of procrastination over the tie backs! You are flying now!! I joined @LateSummerLobelias original threads when we both had different names, and picked up some neat ideas for little things that would make a difference around the house, and found i enjoy the accountability, inspiration and gentle chit chat on the way.
@SingleThreadJoiner and @autumnangel the little group mainly posting on here are just the ones that stuck, but we love to hear from new people 💕

LateSummerLobelia · 20/09/2023 06:33

Good morning!

We most definitely love new people joining our gang. Welcome!!

Gosh Thread 4!

All good here thanks @ThunderclapCloud ! I am so delighted you are stepping back from your stressful and demanding job and look forward to hearing of your projects!

I did not achieve a great deal yesterday as i spent the bulk of the day going from pillar to post for MRIs and scans and all sorts to try and get to the bottom [boom boom] of a lower back problem. Just grateful though that we are finally running various health issues to ground. Today i have a training session related to a new very part time role I am hoping to take on but ought to be back by noon-ish and ready for the weekly frantic 'get the house ready for the cleaner' clean. I am however completely up to date on all washing and ironing including bed linen and towels.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I love the idea of fresh clean white everywhere with a navy rug contrast! I watch alot of youtube videos when I am cleaning and there are a few Scandinavian inspired ones I watch and it looks so fresh and crisp. I am very envious. Our house is a little dark for my taste - dark furniture and turkish rugs and is quite small besides. But, that said, with all the Daily Projects and work I have put in over the last 4 threads is starting to be much more cosy and enjoyable to live in.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

LateSummerLobelia · 20/09/2023 06:37

Oh @RunningKatie I just caught up properly on your school woes. I am so sorry. Your poor little DC.

Hugs❤❤❤

Peridot1 · 20/09/2023 07:52

Morning all!

@RunningKatie - sorry to hear about the school misery issue. It’s so stressful. We went through it with DS when we moved to the UK in year 6. He hated the move and was miserable for the year. He did get better about it and then went through another stressful stage around GCSEs. It’s so horrible trying to get them there and then worrying about them all day till you pick them up.

@SingleThreadJoiner - welcome! We are a welcoming bunch and especially to anyone who brings cake!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - your painting sounds great. Nice and fresh and bright. Love navy and white too.

@SpiritOfEdna - I am definitely feeling my PT session this morning! Bending down is not easy!

Yesterday was bitty with facial and then gym but managed to get some of my packing organised.

Today’s list:

  • pre cleaners tidy round
  • laundry - some of which I need for going away so needs to be done today
  • put laundry from yesterday away
  • towels wash
  • get DS’s room ready as he’s coming back for a weekend just before I get back
  • ironing

And I’m meeting a friend for lunch too. And DH and I are going to the garden centre to get some winter veg plants for him to plant while I’m away.

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/09/2023 08:19

It's after midnight here and I'm just getting laundry done before bed, but I just wanted to say Thank you for all the positive comments. It's really keeping me going. 😊💖

petalpower · 20/09/2023 09:27

That sounds really stressful @RunningKatie . I can really understand people who say you’re only as happy as your unhappiest child. Having been through stress/ anxiety issues with DS and an eating disorder with DD I know how hard it is when your child is unhappy. Hope you find a way forward soon.
Welcome @SingleThreadJoiner ! We’re a very friendly bunch here.
I’m seeing a friend for lunch today but before then need to:

  • do some online banking
  • pick the remainder of the sweetcorn from the veg garden and take down the stalks unless they blow over in the wind!
  • clean the bathroom
  • label and store the chutney I made yesterday
Forgot to say I did the wordle in 4 today @ThunderclapCloud . My daughter has also got me hooked on Connections which is another NY Times game. Have a good day all!
SpiritOfEdna · 20/09/2023 14:12

hello all and welcome @SingleThreadJoiner
Today

  • put a pile of books on one side to go to recycling or sell if they have any value
  • check I have all the ingredients for a batch cooked curry to do tomorrow
  • ordered some replacement glass for frames and need to find somewhere who makes custom built frames
  • the kitchen seems to look like hoards have trampled through it; so will tidy it whilst on meetings today - there are 2 of us here how does the recycling get full in the space of a couple of hours!
  • try and find my debit card, it spends more time lost than found
That's it for today, have a good day, SoE

SingleThreadJoiner · 20/09/2023 18:46

Hello everyone and thank you so much for the warm welcome ❤️❤️ I have had A Day at work, left the house at 7.30am and back at 6pm (including three hours driving round trip), I doubt I can achieve much tonight but I did order school uniform stuff for my D on Next yesterday and it arrived today so I will count that as a today success 😁

I'm still getting so much inspiration from your ways of fitting little jobs in as well as bigger ones!

I hope the school woes ease over soon. Parenting is a lot of joy and a lot of heartache 💞

LateSummerLobelia · 20/09/2023 19:24

That is most definitely a success @SingleThreadJoiner !

My biggest achievement today (aside from the regular manic cleaner clean) was to finally wrap two presents for my godchildren in Australia. I did that while the DCs were sitting at the dining table moaning about homework.

Finally.

two of the small presents I have had sitting there since Christmas. The others since the start of summer.

Come 2027 I might have sent them too. Hmm

Peridot1 · 21/09/2023 08:04

Ah @LateSummerLobelia don’t put too much pressure on yourself! No need to rush out and post too soon. Those presents need to hang around reminding you they need to be posted and you need to keep forgetting and then they need to make it to the car and then you still need to forget and then when they’ve fallen under the car seats a few times you will eventually post them Or is that just me? 😄

I actually managed all of my list yesterday. If you don’t count the ironing! I do want to do that today though. Maybe.

Today’s list:

  • Chiropractor appointment
  • waxing and manicure appointment
  • check in for flight
  • washing
  • towel wash
  • put towels in DS’s bathroom
  • kitchen tidy
  • two lots of washing to put away
  • finish my packing

I’m off to Greece tomorrow for a week (on my own!) and taxi is picking me up at 4.30 am 😩 tomorrow and we are out for dinner tonight so I need to be completely sorted before we go out. I’m driving so planning on being home reasonably early to get to bed at a sensible time.

Have a great day all!

petalpower · 21/09/2023 09:18

I’ve got a bit of a jigsaw day today - lots of little first world type stuff but it all needs to fit together in the right order. In no particular order:

  • put spare sweetcorn out for sale at the end of the drive (needs trimming first and a new price thing making)
  • visit auntie in the nursing home
  • pick up DD from the station
  • go to the butchers to buy a gammon as requested by father in law
  • music group tonight
  • online grocery shop after menu planning
  • make lists of things to take for trip away this weekend
  • go for flu jab and maybe Covid too if they’ve arrived
Ooh Greece @Peridot1 , how exciting!
SpiritOfEdna · 21/09/2023 10:59

Today:

  • fixed and put up some prints - DONE
  • gym session this morning- DONE
  • make the curry that I got the stuff ready for yesterday
  • Tidy my work desk
  • do 30 mins of weighted hula hoop
  • Book in car for service and MOT - DONE
That is all for today, have a good one, SoE

SingleThreadJoiner · 21/09/2023 11:14

What's in your curry recipe, @SpiritOfEdna ?

Ooh Greece in September, how wonderful @Peridot1 , I bet it's going to be just glorious 😎you and @petalpower certainly have busy days! I hope you get your shot(s) today...

I've got a full day at work again, but managed to put a wash on during breakfast (now to remember to take it out!!), and will try to either sort out hotel for my parents coming in Nov. (I live in the UK but am not originally from here) or look into flu shots for myself - or even both if I am lucky 😅

Hope everyone's days have started well!

SpiritOfEdna · 21/09/2023 12:15

@SingleThreadJoiner it's from Madhur Jaffrey's Easy Curry book, its a quick sweet and sour Gurajati tomato curry - basically lots of tomatoes with ginger, turmeric, mustard seeds, cumin and asafoetida. I am planning on cooking loads so I can use as a base for other meals. You also gave me a flash back to my pre-lockdown work commute - a daily trip from the North West to the Midlands; sooo glad I am not doing that journey any more.
