I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Petal, sorry to hear your dad having uti. It's no fun ever, let alone coupled with other medical issues.

I really should have taken advantage of the quiet evening here by going to bed early since both dc have been asleep for hours, instead I puttered a bit cleaning glass tables, tv's, other dusty surfaces and re-organizing LED candles. Also spent too much time, probably a half hour, trying to figure out why the colours aren't working properly on said candes. (This set has 6 colour settings; light blue no longer works on two; pink / red and light blue /green are practically indistinguishable. I should probably just return them.) Have also watched 4 tv programmes I had pvr'd and I think I have finally tired myself out. 🥱

Peridot1 · 09/02/2024 08:20

Morning all

Your lamb chops sounds good @Mumtobabyhavoc but I agree how the smell of lamb can linger a bit.

@FrostyFogg - DH ended up cooking more than was planned as I lost half an hour to a phone call from MIL’s niece filling me in on her (MIL) being moved from hospital to a dementia care home. All good except she doesn’t actually have dementia! The hospital just wanted her gone - she’d been in for nearly four weeks but they couldn’t really find anything wrong. She had called an ambulance as she said she had chest pains. But nothing was found to be wrong. So that’s all a bit of a mess.

This morning I am mainly clearing up after last night. And hoping my headache goes….

@petalpower - hope your Dad’s uti clears up. It’s amazing how badly utis can affect the elderly.

No snow here but lots of rain.

Today’s list:

  • clear up after last night - it will be a few dishwasher loads
  • laundry
  • gym
  • sort some of my packing

Have a great day all.

WinterLobelia · 09/02/2024 08:43

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well.

@petalpower so sorry about your dad. UTI's are awful for older people and really do affect them.

@Peridot1 that is a really astonishing state of affairs for your niece's MIL! I hope they can sort things out as it seems mad!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I thought you must be up super late. Hope you are sleeping soundly now.

I love your posts @FrostyFogg and agree that i love the snapshots of people lives. We haven't gone yet to see how much the car being fixed will cost. We probably will not claim it on insurance- last year someone reversed into DH's car while it was parked outside our house. Even though we had no claims at all on the insurance and they gave us a continuation of our no claims bonus (in theory) our insurance this year went from under £300 to over £900 this year. So we might just get the paint covered up so rust does not set in and leave it. We tend to drive our cars until they fall apart as well.

I didn't re-pot the house plant yesterday. I could not find a suitable pot and so sort of wandered about the house in a little bit of confusion and then in the middle of the night realised I have the perfect pot in the form of the one the hellebores came in and which i am putting in a garden bed. I'm not quite sure where my brains were!

Today i will do that. And go to book club. I also have applied for a new job- just a part time temp sickness cover role which would only be for a few months but might segue into a new career focus in the charity sector which I'm keen on. I've taken a step back lately as DS1's needs have become quite significant as he progresses through school. I'm lucky to be able to do so, but want to keep my hand in as eventually I will have to return to work properly.

But half term is coming up and I cannot wait! I love having the Dcs home with me. Although we don't do all that much! We have a visit to London planned and probably will go bowling. Tomorrow we are going to a friend's house to make sushi and drink wine (wine is me, not the DCs). My friend is on MN actually so if she is lurking [waves] because I've just thoroughly outed myself!

Hope everyone has a truly wonderful day. Thanks

Peridot1 · 09/02/2024 09:49

@WinterLobelia - sorry for confusion but it’s actually my MIL! Just read my post back and it was poorly worded.

WinterLobelia · 09/02/2024 09:54

Aah yes! I see now @Peridot1 . Actually, you were probably clear and I misread. Smile

SingleThreadJoiner · 09/02/2024 16:46

just stopping by to say I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, but major deadlines at work keeping me up at all hours and v little time for most else* - I think I have been a bit unlucky and have had too much dumped on me. but getting there. did manage to leave the house today for a couple of hours and acquire shampoo, ski trousers, and run another errand.

*it's not that my job is super special or important or anything like that - but it is sometimes project-based and when projects are due, they are DUE

Aria999 · 09/02/2024 18:18

Hi @SingleThreadJoiner this has been me this week also.

Budget savings reviews with the boss were yesterday and I was working every hour I could find all week so as to present the numbers clearly in a way we could have a constructive discussion, while coping with people keeping on changing them... I think it went reasonably well in the end and lots of actions to follow up next week.

I'm about to run out of billable hours this week, my max is 40 (I'm supposed to work 26). At least I get paid by the hour!

Aria999 · 09/02/2024 18:19

*yesterday and today, finished an hour ago

Aria999 · 09/02/2024 18:21

Been reading all the posts but I missed too much to comment so will just wave at you all!

Sorry DH is being grumpy about the car @FrostyFogg , I would think if you want to bash your own car up it is none of his business!

TawnyT · 10/02/2024 09:32

@FrostyFogg sometimes I wish I didn't know what a CTO is either 😆 Your car chat with DH sounds very familiar, my partner studied racecar mechanics at uni and I only learned to drive last year at the age of 34 so theres some difference in attitude to all things car, there have been talks of getting me a little run around so I don't have drive the 'good' car anymore 🙄

@Aria999 and @SingleThreadJoiner hope you're able to switch off today after the hectic weeks at work!

Yesterday was my day off with the little terror and DP had the car so we stayed close to home, went splashing in muddy puddles, baked biscuits, and got the indoor climbing frame out. Managed to clean the kitchen, tidy the living room, and cook a curry too (with enough left over to freeze for a dinner next week) so relatively productive day!

Today I will finally post the cards to PIL and parents with photos of DD in. Have DDs rental clothes and our old Internet router to return too. And some old shoes of DDs I should get in the post for her younger cousin.

And I want to sort our kitchen cupboards and clean the fridge, it's all got a bit messy. Bird feeders need topping up. Plus probably a walk with doggo and DD as the sun is shining!

Have a good weekend all!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 05:49

Everyone has been so busy! Hope heads are keeping above water!!!!

Today's chores:
vacuumed
tidied one shelf in baking cupboard
wiped fronts of cupboard doors
changed beds, washed sheets
2 other loads laundry, one hung up and the other in the washer
made dinner (roast chicken, gravy, potatoes/carrots, creamy polenta)
banana bread in the oven

Need to overhaul all kitchen cupboards, so adding that to never-ending list!

Peridot1 · 11/02/2024 09:00

Morning all.

Was supposed to be on a village clean up this morning but it was cancelled as the village is under water in places. Very glad looking out at the rain this morning! No houses flooded thankfully but the roads in the centre are quite flooded in one section.

So a day of just getting sorted for my trip. And some other bits and pieces.

  • laundry
  • dishwasher and kitchen
  • vacuum
  • start actual packing - so far everything is just in piles in the spare room
  • book taxi for DS for next week
  • dental insurance claim
  • car rental insurance claim
  • clear fridge of my stuff that won’t be used - make soup
  • Clear fruit bowl - might make some smoothies to freeze

Quite a lot for a Sunday!

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 09:24

That's quite a list Peridot! The flooding doesn't sound good! 😲 I can't remember if you mentioned where you are holidaying (?) to, but hope it's dry and warm where you are going.

I'm up late having put together new basinet which was delivered before Christmas...🤦‍♀️ Honestly, where does the time go? Baby is sound asleep in it, thankfully, after both baby and toddler were crying, needing diapers changed and wanting milk. It was chaos at 12:30am for a while. It's now calm as I've got Havoc watching cartoons. I've turned on the dishwasher and had two slices of still warm banana bread with butter. Going to brush teeth and get Havoc off to sleep.

Peridot1 · 11/02/2024 09:30

It is quite a list @Mumtobabyhavoc and I really should be getting on with it! I am off to Australia to see my best friend. So yes it will be warm and sunny. Can’t wait!

You sound like you’ve been doing a lot too. Hope you get some sleep!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 09:40

Peridot, now I remember. 🤦‍♀️ I love Australia!
it's been ages, but I have very fond memories of Queensland and NSW.

FrostyFogg · 11/02/2024 16:00

Urgh, nauseous migraine yesterday to round off the week. A little delicate today but on the up!

Sorry about dad's uti @petalpower. I am sure you already know that it can mimic dementia/make the symptoms worse, but good news is that treating the uti can improve that.

Happy holidays @Peridot1 !

Not stop rain here. Plenty of flooding on roads and fields but homes ok. We are in an area that will be affected by rising seawater, and yet they are continuing to build on floodplains. There are whole estates being built on an area that the sea did cover in Roman times. Just hoping that the powers that be are taking drainage seriously.

Would be so reasonable to build more reservoirs, wouldn't it? So much water this time of year, and droughts come June.

Your little ones must be close together @Mumtobabyhavoc Mine are all around 21 months apart and it's tough but rewarding I found. I do hope you have other hands on deck!

Looking forward to the final card update @TawnyT 😂 My cheque is still in my purse.
Old projecters may remember some discussion on making photo-books. Never did get around to it so now it's in Things To Do This Year (ideally by mother's day)

I have spoken to or seen all members of immediate family today, and now I shall turn phone off and do very little. Some of us went out for lunch so no cooking tonight. If anyone is hungry they will just be pointed to the kitchen.

Best wishes to all, including those untagged. Bit weary, but looking forward to a less fraught week.

SingleThreadJoiner · 11/02/2024 22:04

@Aria999 that is a lot of hours!!!

@FrostyFogg , migraines are miserable, as is flooding - it's so dispiriting to see what happens in the local areas, and as you say when they plan newbuilds, they never seem to think it through.
On a related note, yesterday we were driving to a friend who lives in one of the villages on the outskirts of town and the SIZE of the POTHOLES was criminal, and the frequency too - it felt like being in a really hazardous videogame where you have to keep swerving right and left, totally unsafe.

I hope despite the wetness good weekends were had by all. Ours was super sociable on both days - being hosted one day, hosting the next (but with takeaway pizza) plus a birthday party and assorted child-centred activities. Managed three loads of laundry and a hoover of the downstairs.

There are 6 things on my work to-do list that need to be done before I go on holiday on Friday afternoon. Give me strength...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 23:29

Frosty, migraine sounds awful. Hope you felt better today. 🩷
Single, sounds like a busy, but fun, weekend. 😄

I just got through a stack of mail piled up over the last month. 🤦‍♀️ Having a baby, recovering from surgery, then all of us sick/hosp etc has derailed life admin. But, tax docs are coming in and set aside, bills are paid, items filed, baby's birth cert and health record book are in and I've mostly updated the book with weights, doctors, contacts, birth info (it's called a Health Passport and meant to take to medical/public health appts). Have got a load of towels in the dryer and folded and put away half of last night's laundry. Have got Goodfellas to tv and is almost over so will switch over to US Super Bowl, mostly for the Half-time show. Left- overs for dinner, so easy. Still going to try and sort some baby clothes. 🤞

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/02/2024 02:26

Have now sorted through a box of Havoc's old clothes sizes NB to 18mos. Washed up two loads and hung to dry. Will pack up and donate this week. I then steam cleaned play yard and packed up. Unsure if I am ready to donate that now or keep as back-up until end of year. Since steamer still had vinegar water in it, I steam cleaned some cupboard doors and stove fan hood. Just need to wipe that down with a damp cloth. Dinner next. 😃

Peridot1 · 12/02/2024 08:41

Morning all!

Sorry about the migraine @FrostyFogg - horrible things.

Not got time to tag everyone today as it’s a bit of a busy one. Just eating a quick breakfast and then shower and off to get waxing done and eyebrows tinted and then it’s back to do today’s busy list.

  • dishwasher, kitchen (hope DH does that while I’m out)
  • vacuum
  • put my laundry away minus what I want to take
  • do email to carpenter with DH about the drawings he sent
  • finish packing
  • go to airport!

I have woken up with blocked ears and think I am getting a cold so that’s great timing! About to take a decongestant and hope it helps.

Have a great day all.

petalpower · 12/02/2024 08:48

Well since I last came on this thread I’ve made an emergency dash to be with my dad as he has a type of sepsis. Now in hospital but having treatment in A and E whilst waiting for a bed on a ward. He’s been in a chair in A and E for 40 hours now. My brother has taken over now at hospital. I saw firsthand just how broken the NHS is.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/02/2024 12:49

Oh, no Petal. How worrying and exhausting for all of you. Hoping things get better. 🩷

SpiritOfEdna · 12/02/2024 14:33

ohmy @petalpower that is a lot to have on your plate. Hope you got the peace and quiet you needed at the hairdressers.

I am on a mission today to clear out cupboards and have a very satisfying trip to the tip! There's a theme to my list today 😄

  • empty boiler cupboard of the old brushes and dustpans
  • have a more ruthless cull of books - some to community bookcase, others to recycling.
  • mealplan for the week
  • am looking at pots of dead plants outside - get the debris into bin bags and get them to the tip
  • get to gym tonight - am on Week 4 now of C25K
  • Ive got a cupboard full of pots and pans for our old gas hob - which we can no longer use. They need to go to the tip as well. We could do with the extra space.
  • we bought a new TV, take the old one to the tip. We need to sort out the redundant cables for the old one. New TV same old rubbish to watch though 😄
That's all for now, hav a good day all, SoE.

Good grief @petalpower how awful for you.

Hope he recovers and gets home soon.
