@ThunderclapCloud
@petalpower
@autumnangel

@RunningKatie
@LateSummerLobelia
@Aria999
@Mumtobabyhavoc

and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Hello! @Peridot1 @petalpower So we have gas back on. Both the Centrica guy on Sunday and the gas engineer from yesterday thought it was a faulty CO detector - it was more than 10 yo. So we have a new CO detector, a heating fan and a one ring hot plate curtesy of the Centrica Engineer from Sunday.
I am wiped out with Covid - I woke up last night at 12:30 and didn’t go back to sleep till 6 am - have taken the day off as I would not be of any use to anyone today.
SpiritDoggo needs a walk so will go do that and then bath and bed for me.
Have a good day all, SoE

Oh no @SpiritOfEdna , miserable-sounding covid - so sorry to hear that. Indeed it seems to be everywhere again, my friend's 10yr old was really unwell for over a week, and usually kids bounce back quickly! But yeay to having solved the gas emergency?

Amazing work and skills as every @Mumtobabyhavoc !

And YES @OrangePumpkinLobelia those sliding to-do thingies are genius! Thanks for sharing!

Lots of meetings and deadlines with work here, but between yesterday and today some things have been done - (post)Christmas flights booked, house tidied for the cleaners, pair of toddler shoes donated on Olio (finally! have been trying to give them away for months - I know there are always charity shops, but I try where possible to donate directly to someone for free via Olio or WhatsApp groups), couple of loads of laundry done (including trying to soak stains out of the child's school t-shirts). Phew.

Oh and yesterday I made this for dinner - it was really delicious, highly recommend!! https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/buttermilk-corn-pancakes-with-bacon-maple-syrup

Back to paying attention to the online meeting....

Buttermilk corn pancakes with bacon & maple syrup recipe | BBC Good Food

Enjoy our buttermilk corn pancakes with bacon and maple syrup for an American-style brunch. They're easy, quick and very moreish.

Wow impressive achievements on top of work @SingleThreadJoiner !
Hope you feel better soon @SpiritOfEdna . Good news that you got the gas sorted out. Is there anyone else who can walk Spiritdoggo if you’re not up to it?
I’ve had another productive day.

  • picked 32 butternut squash - according to my neighbour they’ll last until March if they’re stored properly. ✔️
  • threw out all the old tomato plants ✔️
  • planted the hanging basket with violas I bought on the way home from aqua fit ✔️
  • dismantled and cleaned the kitchen extractor fan which was absolutely disgusting. I should be ashamed of myself for how bad it was! ✔️
Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/10/2023 21:50

32 squash??? 😱

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 04/10/2023 06:52

32 Squash??!! Heavens.

Violas0 I might look at those. i need to repot my geraniums out of some hanging baskets and put something more wintery in there.

Hope you are feeling better @SpiritOfEdna

Morning everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/10/2023 07:27

Just heading to bed...
managed to clean bathroom sink, toilet and floor a few minute ago; dish cloth soaking in boiling water with vinegar; boiling electric kettle with vinegar to clean; cleaned out kitchen sink with vinegar and wiped down outside of kitchen garbage can.
Was very tired today as was Havoc and both of us cuddle napped on the couch this afternoon. Needed that! Los of laundry waiting for me and will re-clean Havoc's room thoroughly and finish putting together tomorrow.

I'm now mulling over squash recipes, too!!! 😊

Peridot1 · 04/10/2023 08:23

Sorry you have been hit with the Covid lurgy @SpiritOfEdna.The dose doing the rounds does seem like a nasty one from threads I’ve seen on here so take it easy and don’t try to get back to normal too soon.

32 squash is amazing @petalpower! I’ll hunt out my risotto recipe and send it to you. I love it. It’s for pumpkin but squash is fine in it too. In the past I have chopped and bagged up portions of pumpkin and put them in the freezer and they do ok for soups etc.

You have both been very busy @SingleThreadJoiner and @Mumtobabyhavoc.

I did most of my list yesterday. Hallway is currently a mess full of the charity stuff. Need to load it into the car now as need to move car to make space for builder who has a free day today unexpectedly and is coming to finish off some things we are having done in the garden.

Today’s tasks:

  • load and move car
  • washing
  • fold yesterday’s washing
  • pre cleaners tidy
  • charity shop run plus dry cleaners plus buying DH something nice from Majestic apparently! Probably Calvados.
  • Strip a bed
  • towels wash
  • book train for US trip
  • order plants for new patio
  • order planters for new patio

Also want to try to fit in a walk.

have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/10/2023 09:52

Am loads better today - I slept on and off all yesterday and last night so much better. SpiritDoggo was glued to my side most of the day and night.

Back at work, surrounded by Strepsils, Nurofen, and tissues. Who would have thought water tasted so delicious.
Today

  • give spiritdoggo a walk - only a short one though, sibling has covid too, so suffering as well - but a bit further along than me
  • take delivery of some fittings to sort out the bed I am restoring
  • think there may be a nap or two in there as well
Have a good day, SoE

That’s interesting to know about freezing pumpkin @Peridot1 . I wonder if squash is the same? The recipe would be great, thank you.
Glad you’re feeling better @SpiritOfEdna . Everyone I know who’s had Covid recently has been really knocked for six by it. Because of my heart condition I get to have the vaccine.
Another busy day here with the building work. My car is jammed in with Sam the vans coming and going so I’m going to crack on with some jobs. The main power cable into the house has to be moved so at the moment we have National Power chaps in a big cherry picker doing that, our electricity supplier is also on the way to connect something up and we’ve got the electrician on site and our builder. No electricity until later so I’m hot spotting from my phone!

autumnangel · 05/10/2023 17:35

Hi! I'm still here! I've been on holiday, just came back today. I was so pleased DP and I had a good tidy up before we left as it was lovely to return to a calm house. Jobs for today:

  • Unpack
  • Put cases etc in the loft neatly not just thrown up like I usually do
  • 2 loads of washing - we've probably got about 6 loads that I wish I could get out on the line but it's rained non stop since we got back so there's no chance of that
  • Buy soup maker online
  • I'd also love to clean the fridge and freezer in preparation for us starting to eat healthy (I probably won't get round to this but I shall try!)
  • Write to-do list for tomorrow
Sorry I've not had a chance yet to catch up with everyone's posts yet but I will later as I'm keen to see what you've all been up to.
Aria999 · 05/10/2023 21:36

Hi all!

Glad you are feeling better @SpiritOfEdna

Welcome back @autumnangel

Good luck with the works @petalpower that sounds fairly epic

Today:

Did a couple hours work
Folded a load of laundry
Failed again to get the red stain out of the bathroom floor
Succeeded in getting most of the black mildew out of the grout in the other bathroom
Cleaned a toilet
Changed the sheets and towels
Sent in my application for global entry renewal
Registered DD3's new global entry card
Booked DD3 an appointment for her covid and flu shots
Mended two shirts and a pair of trousers for DS7

Still feeling nearly too overwhelmed to start doing any one thing, am hoping I will actually make progress instead of just running to keep up!

Aria999 · 06/10/2023 00:34

@autumnangel a soup maker is an intriguing idea! Please report back as to whether you recommend it 😊

autumnangel · 06/10/2023 06:45

Wow @Aria999 that’s some list, well done you!

I will most certainly report back! It’s being delivered tomorrow and I’m a bit excited about it! DP tried to talk me out of it by telling me to save the money and just make soup in a pot but I’ve tried! I cannot for the life of me make soup so a soup maker it is!

I’m up early this morning to get on with some jobs. I absolutely love the quietness of early mornings and ticking a few things off the list before the world wakes.

Hope you all have a fantastic day filled with ticks on your to do list!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 06/10/2023 07:13

Morning all!

I have not posted much as have not achieved much!

Very impressed by all the achievements here!

Busy day and busy weekend ahead so I am focusing on keeping on top of the house, and washing and ironing for the children. But as lovely weather is predicted down my way I want to pot out the geraniums and wallflowers in my hanging pots and get the posts ready for the winter planting.... @petalpower 's violas ideas might be a go as well as cyclamen!

Hope everyone has a wonderful wonderful weekend!

Peridot1 · 06/10/2023 08:29

Morning all!

Impressive list of jobs done @Aria999!

I had a soup maker at one point @autumnangel. DH bought it for me and I was less than impressed. I used it a couple of times and then got rid of it. I just prefer to just chuck everything into a pot and boil it for a while and then use the hand blender. I also make large quantities of soup to freeze and the soup maker couldn’t do that. Although we now have an Instant Pot and I’m planning on using that to make soup next time. Hope you like yours though.

Hope you are feeling ok now @SpiritOfEdna.

I need to buy some plants and do some planting this weekend while the weather is nice too @OrangePumpkinLobelia.

Yesterday I achieved two jobs from the list that have been there for a while. Took DS’s mattress topper to be cleaned and did charity shop drop off.

Today’s list:

  • get organised for guy coming to clean sofas and rugs - he is due at 9 so need to get a wriggle on
  • washing
  • kitchen
  • do supermarket shop
  • have nail appointment to get the gel nails I had for my holiday removed
  • make chilli for dinner

Have a great day all.

Aria999 · 06/10/2023 14:04

Today's list

Take DD3 for her vaccines
Begin tidying the cellar (this is a large and daunting task but there is an ominous smell in part of it so I really need to see if we have animals nesting there 😳)

SpiritOfEdna · 06/10/2023 14:33

There are some impressive lists going on! I am nearly back to full speed, sibling tested -ve today so I should follow suit tomorrow - fingers crossed! Still living on toast and hobnobs (it's a hard life) but I AM DRESSED and back to making lists. In fact I've managed to tick some things off whilst sitting here procrastinating.
Today

  • finally got the return of the deposit paid to the joiner. Ended up telling him I would take him to small claims court and it miraculously turned up in my account. I hadn't realised how much he had messed us around - double booking, over-running on other jobs, then not putting us in the diary and taking on other jobs, getting locked behind electronic gates (!) & various bouts of illness. It's all done now.
  • chucking out old toiletries
  • try and find a mounting kit for the new CO Monitor
  • do a list for tomorrow - buy picture rail for back bedroom needs to be at the top
  • do I want to make a Christmas cake this year - would need to get organised now... pondering
  • gather books by the door ready for the tip - tomorrow's list
  • reschedule a visit of the little great-niece for next weekend
  • pay the accountant's bill - DONE
  • pay road tax for the year - DONE
  • book annual leave for trip to Cornwall in November - DONE

That's all for now, all little things but so satisfying 😃, have a good day, SoE

Morning all!
It’s gone a bit quiet on here over the last couple of days. Hope you’re all ok. Haven’t seen you for a while @ThunderclapCloud and @RunningKatie . Hope you’re just busy with life.
Last week was a bit quiet on the social front but I manage to get everything done on my list including:

  • uploading the last year of photos from my phone to Photobox and updating the building photos. I’m normally really good at this and getting them printed but have let it slide.
  • swapped summer and winter clothes and sorted a bag for charity and a bag to put on eBay
  • listed a few items on eBay and have sold two already
  • replaced summer bedding with winter in pots and hanging basket
  • had a clear out in the veg garden and harvested my butternut squash
  • picked sloes ready for Christmas sloe gin
  • cleaned the embarrassingly disgusting extractor fan above the hob
It looks like another mild and sunny day here. I’m taking part in a charity walk this afternoon so hope it doesn’t get too warm! Have a good day everyone!
Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/10/2023 19:20

Morning ☀️
It's a sunny Thanksgiving here & my mum's birthday. 🥳
About to start putting dessert together - tiramisu- then will toast baguette for dressing. Menu is roast chicken, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, acorn squash. Holiday Monday tomorrow, so left overs + garlic prawns and scallops, left over tiramisu and apple pie. 😛
still unpacking, organizing and purging. Wanted to put a shelf up in laundry closet last night, but two walls showed electrical and the third electrical + metal. Glad I bought the stud finder!!!! Have instead put small plastic baskets on top of washer and placed like items in each.

petalpower · 08/10/2023 21:08

Happy birthday to your mum @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/10/2023 22:24

Aww thanks, Petal. Everyone napping here atm... I guess I'll just putter and get things done. 🤷‍♀️I snuck a biscuit and dipped it in the mascarpone/whipping cream while making dessert... yummy, but not substantial. Baguette amd cheese next. 😊

Aria999 · 09/10/2023 00:48

@Mumtobabyhavoc do you have a different thanksgiving day in Canada? I don't seem to have it in my diary but I think it's late November here.

Hope you have/ had a lovely day.

SingleThreadJoiner · 09/10/2023 09:06

Gosh yes, I seem to have disappeared for a week...not sure where the time went! But very much enjoyed catching up on everyone's achievements this morning, glad the dreaded covid is on the way out @SpiritOfEdna , and happy Thanksgiving @Mumtobabyhavoc ! And now I am on tenterhooks about @Aria999 's cellar...what did you find there?!

Hm, so what do I have to show for my week of absence?! Lots of work. Selling or passing on a few things including daughter's stroller, so very very excited to have regained the space from that! 🎉 Moved a couple of potted plants in a sunnier and less windswept spot. Took D to two birthday parties over the weekend 😱Got ahead of myself with some birthday presents and cards that I'll need in a few weeks' time (feeling VEERY smug about that one!). Fought a losing battle against stains on various of D's white school t-shirts. Ok, so not a huge amount of things maybe, but not absolutely nothing either...I think I'll take it!

I think I have to keep it manageable for myself today given the schedule I've got, so I'll settle for

  • folding some laundry
  • posting two items for sale/passing on
  • checking the contents of a folder of papers sitting on my desk and filing or recycling them ruthlessly!

Happy Monday everyone, may it be a great and sunny week for everyone!

Peridot1 · 09/10/2023 09:32

Belated Happy Thanksgiving @Mumtobabyhavoc! Can I ask what ‘dressing ‘ is? Here it would just be salad dressing I think which wouldn’t need toasted baguette!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Weather was fantastic here so we had neighbours in for a bbq on Saturday and yesterday I sat in the sun on our new patio at the top of the garden. We put it in purely to get the sun late in the day or when the sun is lower and it worked well.

Today I’m not sure what I’m doing!

  • washing
  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • vacuum
  • gym
  • change my bed
  • sort through a basket of papers that were in the study

Have a great day all.

Hope @ThunderclapCloud is ok.
