and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Hello everyone! Lovely to read your snapshots as always! Weighted hula hoop @SpiritOfEdna 😱You must have a glorious waist! Are you permanently wfh now?

Have a wonderful time in Greece @Peridot1 You are brave- completely alone?

I have dropped some bits to a charity shop today, and I have plans to do a bit more ruthless decluttering after tomorrow. I love a minimalist home, but we often end up with clutter creep. Kitchen currently has Stuff on the surfaces, and I much prefer cooking when it's clear so I'm keen to set about it. Other people's cluttered houses were one of the things I found quite stressful about my job.

Good luck with getting flu and covid vaccinations. Taking mum for hers next week but keep putting off my own.... I have two friends currently down with covid and I know I should.

Good for you putting parents in a hotel @SingleThreadJoiner When we visit DS/DIL who live abroad we always stay in a hotel, though they stay with us when they come here. Works for us 😊

You are such a busy bee @petalpower I think my life's going to start looking even more like yours ( though i had no sweetcorn success at all!)

@LateSummerLobelia I am similar with Christmas cards. They sit around for years.
I am glad you're getting to the bottom of your teenage back injury.

Best wishes all round xx

Hi all!

Working again today but I managed to order a replacement insinkerator (under sink garbage grinder) from Amazon as ours broke the other day; tomorrow's job is to install it before the sink gets blocked!

Peridot1 · 21/09/2023 16:24

@ThunderclapCloud - yes completely alone. It’s a resort we’ve been going to on and off for years so I know it well and quite a few of the staff know me so I feel quite comfortable there on my own. I did it two years ago too. My MIL doesn’t get it at all and said she hopes I find someone to talk to and I replied that I hoped not! I’m not usually anti social but the whole idea is a restful week in the sun by the sea reading lots of books and going for lots of walks on the beach.

That sounds ideal! I walk alone a lot, minus a dog now which felt very odd at first.
I hope you have a lovely relaxing time!

petalpower · 21/09/2023 23:08

Enjoy your break and the peace and quiet @Peridot1 !
I had both my flu and Covid jabs and now have two very sore arms. Ouch!
In other news the oven door has had a bit of a turn and has decided to stop shutting again. The last time it did it was Christmas Day. I wedged it shut with a crate of lager (classy!) until my brother took pity and did a temporary fix. I bought the new part but it’s in a drawer as the temporary fix seemed to be holding. Another job for the endless list. I also managed to step in something evil smelling in the dark coming out of my rehearsal so DH and I had to drive home down a dual carriageway with the car window open as the smell was so bad. My shoes are now quarantined in the greenhouse but will need dealing with tomorrow before we go away for the weekend. DH discovered some bare wires (chewed by hopefully a mouse but probably something larger) whilst taking plasterboard down for the building work. The fuse board tripped but it’s put the wifi in a bad mood and it keeps switching off. The fun never stops chez Petal!

ThunderclapCloud · 22/09/2023 10:10

Ouch @petalpower !
The rest of your post had me chuckling. Classy indeed 😂

Was thinking of you and your young'un this morning @RunningKatie It breaks your heart, doesn't it? I do hope things improve.

👋 @Aria999 did you get your insinkerator installed? I googled - I've often wondered what waste disposal units were for. We tend to end up with a bit of uneaten cat food which makes the bin need frequent emptying so would seem a good idea - but I do wonder about adding to the fatbergs. Will investigate further 😊

My tumble dryer has not been drying too well. I empty the fluff catcher every time it's used, but i bought a long handled flexible brush and gave the whole area underneath and behind it a good clean this morning. Was astonished at how much lint and general grot that came out. I have a wash on now so am looking forward to seeing how the tumbler works later.

I read a thread about how much housework a sahw should expect working partner to do. Typically, it ended up as an argument about pros ands cons of woman being at home and I hid it in the end because I found it quite upsetting. There were a lot of nice normal posters though, saying things along the lines of how DH and I feel about it.
DH has reassured me that he's very happy with our choices over the years.

SingleThreadJoiner · 22/09/2023 10:46

Flying through as in the middle of an all-day online training (where I am receiving, rather than giving, the training). General greetings and Friday flowers to all 💐💐

I have that Madhur Jaffrey book so will look it up!

Managed to book hotel for parents and flu shot yesterday, great triumphs. Came back from school run this morning to discover husband had put on laundry, also a triumph! Hoping to get a bit of desk tidying done today around/during the training.

Going from 50% part-time work to 100% full-time hours from October, which is very exciting, but also daunting - will have to become super-organised and make much use of this thread to keep accountable!

SpiritOfEdna · 22/09/2023 14:07

Morning
@SingleThreadJoiner - curry was very easy to make but I didn't get the sweet and sour hit I was expecting - maybe I need to up the quantities of the spices. Feeling lazy today - out last night for pizza it was a relatively late one for a school night 😄 There was a beautifully behaved dog sitting with her owners - spiritdoggo would be barking at wait staff coming to the table.

@ThunderclapCloud wishful thinking on re waist whittling - I have only just started this week. I do wfh permanently for an american-owned company with dev teams across India, some ops teams in Europe. It makes for some interesting conversations and the odd clash of cultures.
Today

  • prep for another curry - got to shop for some ingredients
  • get spiritdoggo walked this afternoon
  • make a list of things we need to buy at B&Q tomorrow: thus far, paint, sandpaper, soil
  • re-frame a print. It is off by mm, but visually it is driving me mad
  • more hula-hooping
That's it for today, have a great day all, it's nearly the weekend, SoE

Friday flowers from me too 💐
I have retired, and I went for a long walk on the beach on my own to celebrate. Glorious day, and i find I settle into my thoughts if I walk for long enough.

My tumble dryer still didn't dry well. I discovered that one of us must have knocked it onto the cool setting 😂 It's drying now, but I'm still pleased to have de-linted it.

I've just looked in my feeezer and concluded that it needs defrosting and probably a bit of a clean. Actually I have just taken a wander round the house and found all sorts of bits and bobs that need doing. Quite excited about it!

Have a peaceful evening everyone 💕

LateSummerLobelia · 22/09/2023 18:10

I am searching the emoji list for a Mexican wave, @ThunderclapCloud 😍

safe to say I think all of us are giving you one in spirit. ❤️❤️🌷

ThunderclapCloud · 22/09/2023 19:11

Aww thank you @LateSummerLobelia

Aria999 · 22/09/2023 20:41

@ThunderclapCloud

The insinkerator arrived, but without its special power cable
which for no known reason turns out to be Not Included.

Went to Home Depot as the website said they had some, but they didn't. Confirmed with insinkerator customer support that yes it needs to be the special EZ one, not the generic one Home Depot actually has.

So have ordered it on Amazon.

Meanwhile, keeping the sink unblocked is getting challenging!

In other news have finished updating my model (again) and have ordered a (boring) birthday present for my sister in Germany, my first venture onto Amazon.de!

autumnangel · 23/09/2023 08:33

I’m here! I thought I had lost you all in the move but I’ve found you now!! There’s so much to read through I’ve not been able to catch up yet. Hello to @SingleThreadJoiner and congratulations on the retirement @ThunderclapCloud I hope everyone is well.

Last week I finished the garden, well the bits I’m doing anyway, I shall leave DP to potter on whatever he wants to do out there. This week I’ve moved on to my shed. It’s more of a(nother) space for me to retreat to as opposed to a typical garden shed. I have a big desk and lots of books in there but I don’t get the use out of it so between today and tomorrow I’m going to focus on that. DP and I are going shopping today. We need a new kettle and DP is looking for paint for a bench he has made. Then we’re going to the Barras market in Glasgow and a look around Primark.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day

ThunderclapCloud · 23/09/2023 14:32

@Aria999 may your extra special cable come quickly before you flood the kitchen! 🙏

Hello @autumnangel glad you found us! A shed retreat sounds lovely - what are you planning to do with it?

Glorious autumn day round here- lay in for a bit then went to see my mum and took her out in her wheelchair. She got all argumentative about having the seat belt on in it, but i got my way in the end!

Finally getting round to clearing the vegetable beds this afternoon.

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday 💐

SingleThreadJoiner · 23/09/2023 17:19

Happy late Saturday afternoon! Hard to find some time to onesself at the weekend with a four-year-old rampaging 😅Early morning swimming lesson followed by a playgroup I co-host, for families from my country to keep their language skills up - it was a bit too much today though, 23 kids and 32 adults, I didn't enjoy it. Did manage two loads of laundry today though.

Hope everyone is having a pleasant Saturday!

Very excited for you @ThunderclapCloud - it must be a great feeling to be in control of your time again! Send some peaceful beachy thoughts our way too please 🏝

Hello @autumnangel , hope the shopping gave you what you were looking for!

ThunderclapCloud · 24/09/2023 12:27

Sunday afternoon already! Hope you're all having fun! @SingleThreadJoiner how well I remember the days of rampaging four year olds! The playgroup sounds like an excellent idea but I can see why it felt a bit much with that number.

I cannot send peaceful beach thoughts today as it is blowing a hooly and the sea was rough when I walked this morning. I'd describe it more as 'bracing' 😂

Today as my project I have cleaned the splashback areas in the kitchen. But currently I am curled up with a cat and a book while my lovely DH is getting lunch.

Best wishes all round 💐

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 24/09/2023 13:05

Hello!! Seasonal name change. 🎃

I thought of you when I woke up, @ThunderclapCloud wondering how you were feeling this Sunday morning with a blissfully retired week ahead!

today I am making ratatouille which is DH ‘s favourite. He is doing a very big tidy and sort of the larder which is sorely needed. Then I want to look at the garden and plot a bit. I have washed and ironed school uniform including blazers and ties. Then I hope to do some knitting.

hope everyone has a great day and so pleased that @autumnangel found us again!!

petalpower · 24/09/2023 14:37

Congratulations on your retirement @ThunderclapCloud ! Have you any big plans for your first week of not working?
We’re just driving back from a weekend away visiting the oldies and going to my SIL’s 50th birthday party. I was the designated driver (mostly so I could take my dad home when it became too much for him) so tonight am planning an evening on the sofa with wine and catch up tv.
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

Peridot1 · 24/09/2023 14:50

Kalispera from Greece!

Happy retirement @ThunderclapCloud. Well deserved.

I have read through the thread to see what you are all up to but am trying to avoid screens too much while away so it’s just a quick hello for now.

Aria999 · 24/09/2023 22:55

Insinkerators installed = 1, v.g!

I turned out not to need the cable after all 🤦‍♀️ am sending it back.

I also created an impressive flood all over the kitchen (it was actually raining back down from the ceiling) after I removed the filter water tank to get it out of the way, without depressurizing it first...

All in all, a learning experience.

Meanwhile DH looked after DD3 all morning and still found time to tidy the entire house. Sometimes I suspect he is more efficient than me 😳

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 25/09/2023 07:54

Morning!Have a great trip @Peridot1

@Aria999 nightmare about your indoor rain.

today I am going to put new plant stands out. Literally just one job because it’s all I can motivate myself to do.

SingleThreadJoiner · 25/09/2023 08:54

Good morning all and happy Monday! It is beautifully sunny here - hope it is the same for you all.

Sounds like there were pleasant things all round during your weekends, maybe not the water feature @Aria999 , what a thing to have to deal with!

Yesterday was mostly parenting for me, but I did manange one small but crucial job, got myself a slot at my consulate in London for an ID card renewal - first available one is in mid-December 😅but at least it's in the diary now!

Started the day with a win by putting on a wash right after breakfast, and packing up a bag of toddler clothes hangers to pass on to someone - might be the only successes of the day, as I have a meeting starting in a few minutes...

petalpower · 25/09/2023 09:43

My house is full of people and mess! The piano tuner is here, the builder is putting a supporting wall inside the house before another wall is taken down and my husband has kindly switched off the electricity as he is replacing the mouse nibbled wires. The washing machine was halfway through a cycle and the electricity got turned off halfway through whilst I was out walking the dog which is rather irritating. So many things I need to do but can’t without electricity. Hopefully it will
come on soon. Petaldog is thoroughly discombobulated with all the banging and crashing and is inexplicably frightened off the metal tape measure that my husband keeps noisily retracting after measuring wiring.
Have a good day and I’ll be back later!

SpiritOfEdna · 25/09/2023 13:55

@petalpower I love the sound of a retractable measuring tape - so satisfying 😃
@ThunderclapCloud happy retirement 🌻
I had another busy weekend of batch cooking and a trip to flip out yesterday - am a bit knackered today after that.
Today

  • chase the sodding joiner for a refund on the work we paid him for
  • organised for a handy man to come and fit some floating shelves - they are quite heavy and the fittings look a bit complicated
  • added spiritdoggo to our booking for trip to Cornwall in November
  • today is 🌟pay day 🌟 so update financials spreadsheet
  • spiritdoggo is looking at me with mournful eyes as she wants to go for a walk and I have been in meetings all morning - 10 mins to go!
  • need a trip to B&Q to buy some sanding sheets
That's all for today, have a good day all, SoE, off to walk spiritdoggo

SingleThreadJoiner · 26/09/2023 09:35

Gosh @petalpower what a day! Hope you are recovered!

I am feeling tired energised after a sprint tidy of the house first thing in the morning ahead of the cleaners coming. Now getting everything together for my main non-work task of the day, sending off passport renewal application for the child - it's for the non-UK one, so there is a lot more paperwork 🙄if I have any brainspace left after that I'd like to sort out her half-term activities as well, but we shall see. Other than that, heading to the local library to work somewhere else for a change of scene.

Have a lovely day everyone
