It positioned me quite accurately.

Can wait for the boys to try tomorrow.

They spent 5 years of their early formative language years in a different area of England , which has quite a different accent to London.

I notice they still say some words with that accent .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2023 05:24

Bizzey, scones with jam and cream are not common here. Typically they are eaten plain or with butter. But, if I were to do it with jam and cream I'd also put jam first. Obviously. 😉

Just finished vacuuming, giving Havoc a bath, sopping water up off of bathroom floor 🤦‍♀️ (don't turn your back on a toddler; rookie mistake) and now waiting for a load of laundry to finish so I can hang it up and go to bed.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2023 01:57

Bizzey, growing up, Scawn, like prawn. Now, scone, like phone. Seems common pronunciation here, now.
I've seen this heavily debated on a thread on this site! Not to mention the cream or jam first debate! 🫣

I say skon. I'm from Sussex, and my Mum was from Sunderland, so I don't know where I got it from. I also say settee.

Silkierabbit · 17/10/2023 09:53

I say sofa and scone like phone but growing up some people say settee and scon.

Painters and decorators have started outside. They suddenly appeared at my window when I looked across. No idea how they will manage the weather, today is fine but the next 2 weeks is looking like rain every day on the BBC.

Silkierabbit · 17/10/2023 09:54

Definitely jam first and then clotted cream no butter. More cream than jam and strawberry jam.

I'm with you on the jam first, but I prefer raspberry. I find strawberry jam too sweet.

Gahh !!
Yet another phone call from my energy company about smart meters.
Engineer in the area and I am eligible for a free smart meter ...
even though I have told them every time they ring ..
I DON'T WANT ONE !!

He wanted to know if I knew the benefits of having a smart meter ...
I should have let him do his spiel..

But nothing will convince me , so I didn't .

Knowing how much my heating is costing me when it is on is not going to make me turn it off if it is cold 🤣🤣!

I am quite frugal anyway with gas and electric,so I don't think I could cut down any more !

Plus ....I do not have a spare plug socket to plug it into 🤣.

And I would knock it over and break it in a matter of seconds !

Rant over 🤣🤣!

bizzey · 17/10/2023 12:57

I know they are not big things ...but...

bizzey · 17/10/2023 12:58

Plus I hate having work people in my house !

bizzey · 17/10/2023 12:59

Silkie...how delayed will the weather affect your outside work ?

Is kitchen all completed now ?

Silkierabbit · 17/10/2023 13:07

Just we just had a smartmeter the other day and then they said they had to send another team in for our electrics otherwise we could die. 🤔All that is done now.

The outside of the house in theory is 3 weeks from today Mon to Fri 8.30am to 3pm but no idea how they work around rain because the forecast does not look good, no different to a normal October / November. Its sunny here today and fine for them and tomorrow rain starts at 4pm so that may still be OK - today they seem to be sanding down windows and doors, sometimes its with a very loud electric sander. But I honestly wonder if they will need to give up and restart in Spring. That's fine with us and they haven't said anything like that though these people never do until after they start.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2023 13:56

Been wide awake past two hours...grrr. 😡

Enjoying reading posts here! Starting to get hungry, actually!

Saw derm yesterday. Need to have two moles removed. Have been referred to plastic surgeon. Hoping to arrange for after having baby to minimize weird stretchy scarring as one mole is on belly. Derm thinks waiting a few mos will be fine as important, but not urgent. Have history of several severe sunburns, a lot of sunbed use in past and am fair. Luckily, have changed to covering up and using spf and no longer seek a suntan. 😇

MissConductUS · 17/10/2023 14:18

Mum, we say either couch or sofa interchangeably. Couch is probably a bit more common.

Colors are starting to come out around the reservoir, and I spotted some geese stopping to rest on their way south. They flew right over my head before I took the picture.

Don't know if it is all Brits ..but I think we use couch in a therapy/physiologist type of setting ...even though I know they don't use them now.
Maybe hypnotherapy?

bizzey · 17/10/2023 14:36

Havoc glad mole is being check out and kept an eye on .

I dread to think what I have put my skin through during my 20's.

We moved from a 2nd floor massionette (block of flats) when I was late teens, to a house with a south facing garden .

I spent every second I could out there with just baby oil on me 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️!

Always got a lovely tan and never burned .

I then live in a hot Mediterranean country for 5 years ...and thought I was being really sensible using SPF 4 for the first few days of sunbathing...then quickly moved to SPF 2 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️!.

Don't think they even sell anything less than spf15 now ?

Now if the sun is out ..I am covered up, umbrella SPF 30 ...the lot 🤣.

I decided I would rather be white and wrinkly than tanned leather and wrinkly!

Thought I do have some body lotion that gives me a tanned glow !

bizzey · 17/10/2023 14:44

On a trip abroad with the boys , ds3 hated the feel of the suncream.
He insisted he did it himself.

That evening...he had stripes up his feet and legs where he decided just to put the cream on in stripes instead of rubbing it all in 🤦‍♀️.

I felt such a failure!!

His red stripes were quite sore 😥((🤣🤣🤣. It is now a funny antidote when we talk about using suncream !!)

bizzey · 17/10/2023 15:07

Is it obvious that I am procrastinating and dithering !!
I am in the middle of re-organising my sitting room (front room , lounge according to that quiz !)

I will finish it ..but just keep having MN and a cuppa breaks in the middle of it 🤣.

bizzey · 17/10/2023 15:30

Ohh I am on a roll now !!

I have a box of wires/adaptors/chargers/plugs and things.

I ask the boys to sort them out to see what we need to keep , get rid of.
They just keep getting put back in the box ...and get tangled again...

Wellll...

I have just put them all in to individual freezer bags !

They can just all go back in the box ...and easy to find 😇!

No more tangeling!

bizzey · 17/10/2023 15:33

Oops sorry ...I just remembered this was was meant to be dull and unexciting news 🤣!

I am actually very excited at the moment ..ha ha !

We had a smart meter fitted @bizzey but the electric meter is under the stairs in the deepest darkest depths of the house so surprise surprise, the smart meter can't pick up the WiFi signal to transmit the readings....the most unsmart smart meter I've ever seen!
In other utilities related news, I've given in and put the heating on today as I'm WFH and absolutely freezing! Has anyone else 'North ish' in the UK managed to keep there's off so far?

bizzey · 17/10/2023 16:39

Todays The Shay our meter is out in the back of beyond as well !
Well it feels like it when I have to do a meter reading !

I am in the south but had to put heating on for 1 hour yesterday and today around the 12/1 pm mark.

It holds fine if I do that afternoon slump ?

In a couple of weeks I may put it on again about the 7/8pm bracket for shower and bath mine !
But I am quite frugal with it all and the dc's now have been conditioned ..not to expect a house at 24 degrees all the time .(mam ! ...it is too hot in here !!)

HelenaJustina · 18/10/2023 06:35

No heating on here yet but we’ve turned the radiators on so when the boiler runs for the hot water, some heat trickles through too. We will crack soon and get it on properly, we won’t last until November which is always DH’s aim.

Heating at work will go on after half term, it’s been so cold there this week! Have worn successively more layers each day.

WmFnKdSg1234 · 18/10/2023 07:48

My heating goes on at 0700 -0715 then again in the evening 1900-2100. I wear a lot of layers, sit with a throw/blankets etc...

Today I will be working in the office 20 mins away mainly for the ambient temperature 😉

MintJulia · 20/10/2023 17:54

DS just gave me a hug and I've realised I have to look UP at him now.

No longer down 😮
