I'll start us off. I was looking out of the kitchen window last night and saw a deer, looking for a snack in my garden, looking in the window at me. DH opened the front door to tell her off and she ambled away.

DH and the kids have gone off to see the Oppenheimer movie. I CBA to sit in a theater for three hours. I'll watch it when it makes it to Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Thanks for the new thread MissC

In a testament to how exciting our lives have been today DH just sent me a message to say green bin is now full, now onto blue bin.

Silkierabbit · 23/07/2023 19:28

Lovely deer MissC

Yes DH wants to see Oppenheimer and Barbie. DS said no. I was meh. DD is considering it.

Silkierabbit · 23/07/2023 20:03

In slightly more exciting news we are getting a Chinese takeaway, king prawns and special fried rice and sweet and sour sauce.

Dd will be back from work shortly and have a veg chow mein.

Floof complains the Chinese cooks prawns, should always be served raw. He is snoring atm.

Cheezecake · 23/07/2023 20:49

I finished a book today and was pleasantly surprised by being happy at the ending instead of feeling lost, as I usually do.

MissConductUS · 23/07/2023 22:02

Welcome, @Cheezecake, and thanks for sharing your happy literary news. I tend to read nonfiction, which usually ends badly.

DH and the kids are still off at the movies and won't be home until 7:00, so I must get things set up for cooking tonight.

The roads around here are still a mess from the flooding. I may go in on Tuesday and WFH for the rest of the week. The cats will like that. My boss is leaving at the end of the month and has other things to worry about.

I've met his replacement, and he doesn't seem like a mansplaining tosser like my current boss, but only time will tell. DH is in charge of our retirement planning. I'm hoping it's possible next year.

I'm glad you're hopeful re an offer Silkie.
Thanks for the new thread Miss.

Was just me and DD at home today- we didn't leave the house due to the rain, but we played, ate and snuggled to our hearts content.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/07/2023 22:16

Silkie, Barbie looks to be an event. I'm enjoying the news coverage about people getting dressed up and some going all out in Barbie theme. It's nice to see people having fun. 😊 Oppenheimer at 3hrs... ugh. I don't think I could sit that long without an old-fashioned intermission. 🤣 However, people are doing a double feature and seeing both same day. 🤷‍♀️

Hello, Floof. ☺️

How lovely. How old is your DD? I feel I don’t spend enough time with DD1 who is 5.5 years old and worried she won’t want to in a few years

Neveranynamesleft · 23/07/2023 22:32

I finally got round to sorting the jumbled up ironing pile. Still haven't ironed it though. The thought was there.....

MissConductUS · 23/07/2023 22:52

Welcome, @Contraversialcate and @Neveranynamesleft, and thanks for sharing your news. My kids are 21 and 22, so snuggling has been off the table for some time. I was very industrious and got the little ironing that needed doing finished yesterday.

I love how a new thread brings on new people. Might I ask you two if you were casually following the old thread or have you just jumped in cold?

@Neveranynamesleft Its the thought that counts

mathanxiety · 24/07/2023 05:05

Thanks for the new thread, MissC.

Another weekend has flown by. We are going to get a taste of the extreme heat that the southwest has been experiencing next week.

I decided to weed out my wardrobe and ended up with several bags to drop off to Goodwill. While getting back into the car at the drop off point I realised my right sandal had fallen apart, so DD3 and I decided to shuffle in to Goodwill to see if I could find a pair of flip flops that would at least take me on to the supermarket. There was a pair of brand new summer weight sneakers there in my size, unworn, which I bought.

Silkierabbit · 24/07/2023 07:34

Thanks Half Your day sounds lovely.

Havoc Yes Barbie sounds the better one to me too. Floof says hi. He just got super excited at DH coming upstairs with new cat nuts and new cat tuna that he rushed trilling into DH in the stairs and tripped DH up and the tuna went flying. But carpet tuna tastes better so we had extra trilling and dh going Floof you are such a silly boy.

DH did a chicken impression and Floof did more trilling. He is now on non stop trilling to dh, somebody wants a game.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/07/2023 08:07

Thanks miss c am just marking place

Contraversialcate · 24/07/2023 11:35

New member as saw the thread title and it caught my attention. I am looking after friends kids and then taking 2 of my 3 girls (one in nursery) to a long awaited physio appt on my bad foot. Here’s hoping it’ll help relieve pain

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 24/07/2023 12:40

Hello! I woke at 2am and it’s now 7.30am and I’m ready to go back to bed. Gah.

MissConductUS · 24/07/2023 16:13

Welcome to Mumsnet as well then, @Contraversialcate. You'll find that this thread is an island of calm civility compared to some here. I hope your foot is okay. What's your diagnosis?

ZZ, I had one of those nights two weekends ago. I wound up going for a three mile walk in the dark to have something to do.

I had a medical appointment this morning and am working from home with my son and the cats, who aren't actually working.

halfpasteleven · 24/07/2023 22:31

DD is almost 4 @Contraversialcate.
A rogue but I adore her and she's a mammys girl for sure.
I have a DS who is 10 who is a gentle old soul..

halfpasteleven · 24/07/2023 22:32

Pressed send too soon!

I have those worries too as I know from watching DS grow up that it won't always be this way..

It's bittersweet watching our
children grow x

Neveranynamesleft · 24/07/2023 23:14

I just noticed the thread and decided to take a look, I'm rather nosy you see....
I've had a busy day, decided to have a clear out. Just a nice and easy pottering about sort of clear out, still loads to do.
The ironing can wait...

MissConductUS · 25/07/2023 14:25

@Neveranynamesleft, you'll fit right in. We're all a bit nosy. 😂

I ran the gauntlet of detours and made it into work today. Fab news from the reservoir! I spotted a mama duck with two ducklings. I've never seen them before.

Back home again. I swam in the sea before we set off and was lucky enough to watch 2 RAF jets zoom about for at least 20 minutes.

Hope your medical appointment went OK Miss

Lemonsandlemonade · 25/07/2023 19:30

Went on a lovely evening stroll by myself this evening it’s so very beautiful tonight.

Silkierabbit · 25/07/2023 22:14

Glad you had a nice walk Lemons

Good you got to go swimming Iwandered

Welcome to newbies

Lovely ducks MissC

Did 2.5 hours gardening with DH tonight and we filled the whole of a big green bin. DH had wanted to do away from house but I wanted to do by house as we are getting house repainted in a month or twos time and that part has to be done and also its the part people in house see. DH said there would be nothing for him to do there then I pointed out things and he got loads. Just had nice bath.

Having steak in red wine sauce new potatoes and brocolli for dinner. Had a toasted sandwich for lunch and a snack of cheese, prawn and spring onion.

DD has been working. I ordered 3 books for DS and DD announced DS won't read these so I will just take them read them then give them to him that way you have wasted money. 😂She's not wrong. It's the Lord of the Rings. She also declared my brother is getting better there is variety in his gaming. 😂
