Bizzey I hope DS appointment goes ok and you can back to painting!
Silkie that paddle steamer looks magnificent. I think it has done Swansea to ilfracombe in the past.
Lemons hope DS fully recovered. Which beach is that one (if you don't mind saying)?
Havoc is Thanksgiving for independence in Canada?
Need to go to bed now.....

MissConductUS · 11/10/2023 14:42

Mallards, I've seen it fly many times. The wingspan is huge, and it does look a bit flappy taking off. It is very graceful gliding over the water while looking for fish, then it plunges straight down to catch them.

We had a FaceTime call with DD last night to discuss the wedding. They are working on the guest list. DD was thinking about next May. I think we convinced her that she needs to focus on graduating uni and that next fall would be a lot less rushed. They haven't decided on where. We strongly encouraged having it near us. DH indicated that he was prepared to pay for the reception, at least, unless the guest list became enormous.

Ohh MissC how exciting!

Next year !
I thought it would be a long engagement.

Poor mama is in shock tonight as BG man has said she needs a power flush that could cost upto £800. !

No painting done today ...but a very interesting Bolognese made .

I am actually quite surprised at myself !

bizzey · 11/10/2023 16:42

Ohhhh !
We have rain !!

Not had that a long while 🤣!

Deathraystare · 11/10/2023 17:14

Yes @Bizzey we have rain. I hope the heavens don't absolutely open at 8pm cos I do not have a jacket. Well I did but it was in my laundry bag for carrying around and I forgot to take it out when I asked for a service wash! I had popped into the cafe and when I got out he had already washed it and it was in the tumble dryer! Dammit and bugger!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/10/2023 17:17

Hi Sprouts, a little friendly chuckle here, we're in the Commonwealth; Charles is our King. Thanksgiving was created in 1700's to give thanks for the bounty here 😁

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_Canada#:~:text=The%20government%20of%20Canada%20(French,%2Don%2Dthe%2DBench.

Thanksgiving seems to be more of a big deal with our southern neighbours, though. I often see news items about airport line-ups as people travel a lot for the holiday. Miss, can you comment?

It's a gorgeous fall day here! I actually had a decent sleep, too! 👍👍👍

Wedding news is so exciting MissC I think it's just lovely. I'm so happy for your family.

Do you have pumpkins at Thanksgiving Havoc or is that a random shoppers at the market pic? I wanted to get one carved out with the candle in it for Halloween, but it's a sign you're open to trick or treaters and I'm not into that, so no pumpkins for me.

Gosh what a nuisance Deathray I hope you don't get soaked.

I had some rain too Bizzey, it's feeling autumnal today, a world away from yesterday's heat and sunshine.

In today's dull news, I washed the car.

bizzey · 11/10/2023 18:18

Ahhh the pumpkin stories have made me smile!

When the boys were little we carved pumpkins at mamas house.

We then went to her friends for trick or treating ...not knowing what leaving a lit pumpkin outside your house meant..

Put dad was left at home with the door going 10 to the dozen while he was trying to watch TV.

Dad was disabled so couldn't get to the door anyway !

We did feel bad when we realised during our little walk around....and shared our ware's with him when we got home. 🤣🤣!

Silkierabbit · 11/10/2023 20:04

Did some hoovering. Watched Below Deck. Collected Sainsburys order. Kitchen guy came but just to measure for tiler and apparently they are all coming on Friday morning. Really hoping that will be the end of the kitchen fitting.

DD went to school. Had a toffee apple. Having aligot for dinner. Booked a haircut for tomorrow evening and will go swimming after.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/10/2023 20:29

mallards, decorative gourds and mini pumpkins for Thanksgiving for those who like to decorate.
silkie, had to google your dinner. 😊

Feeling so bloody bloated... ugh. Just arrived at obgyn appt. It's starting to get cloudy now, so glad I had Havoc out at park earlier for a bit of a run around.

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/10/2023 20:34

Silkie I misread what you had for dinner and read it as alligator. 😂😂

All good am tired though. Been watching the Jimmy Saville programme it’s so sick. My dad always hated him before it all came out about him.

MissConductUS · 11/10/2023 20:38

Havoc, Thanksgiving is a very big deal in the US, especially in New England where the tradition started. We normally just travel locally for it, but lots of people go cross country to see family.

Mallards, it is lovely, thanks for your kind words. I think DD is just starting to realize how much there is to do to organize the wedding and what a lot of work it's going to be. I got a text from the fiancee's mum asking us to have a call with her and his dad to talk about things, so we're going to do that on Friday night. They're on the West Coast, so it's a three-hour time difference.

Hope appointment goes well Havoc Aligot is French (DH is French) its just potatoes and a special cheese mainly with garlic in and we had it with steak and broccoli.

Once when I went to MIL's Lemons she got out a tin of crocodile pate and lots of them ate it. 🙀

Floof was stalking my steak. He's also eaten 2 spiders.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/10/2023 22:33

Silkie, sounds like yummy comfort food! 😊
Yes, appt went well. Getting an ultrasound in Friday. Have gained 2lbs past 2 weeks, which is good as I haven't gained since May.
Miss, the NE must be gorgeous in fall. My knowledge if American Thanksgiving is from tv and movies. 😁

Your halloween memories are lovely, @bizzey - your poor dad! Your dinners always sound lovely, @Silkierabbit I am no where near so creative. We basically have some form of potatos or pasta on repeat! It's my ambition for when I finish my training degree, to cook more interesting (and healthy) food.

Supposed to be working from home today, but have put my back out somehow. Not sure what I've done but couldn't sleep all night with the discomfort, all down my mid and lower back, and at times around my sides. So am doing little bits of work between lying down breaks with my hot water bottle. Have told DH I won't do any picking up of DS this eve- I have a tendency to push through things like this and end up worse, so am determined to get better at saying when I need help.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2023 15:38

Oh, no Whyy. I hope that passes quickly. I have a TENS machine for just those issues. They're good to have on hand.

So, am sitting at lab. Have just begun glucose fasting test. Been awake since 5am and arrived here at 7:15am. Have had blood drawn then drank a lovely bottle of sugar water. I've only had about 5hrs sleep, but I's sure I was told it had 75g of sugar. 🤢 It was very sweet. Now waiting 1 hr to repeat.
I might provide boring updates as i'll be here 2 hrs. 😵‍💫

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2023 16:27

Have just had 2nd vial of blood drawn. Didn't have to drink any more sugar water. Yeah! Feeling 🤮 One more hour to go, then another vial and I think I'll be done. 👍

mathanxiety · 12/10/2023 17:38

Hope your glucose challenge results are acceptable, Havoc. I hated that syrupy drink. Mine was optimistically called 'orange' flavour by the nurse.

It's chilly and damp here. Dcat hasn't uncurled herself in the armchair she's taken over all morning.

I made (or rather assembled) a chicken curry yesterday evening, with chicken breasts and a jar of Patak's sauce. We have enough to last a few days.

This year there will only be DD4 and myself for Thanksgiving so we're going to have a Thai green curry and the traditional desserts. DS only gets the day itself off (which he's grateful for). He plans to cook the full traditional meal and invite his fellow residents, and his lovely GF is making the trek into the sticks for the weekend. The other three DDs are having Thanksgiving in DC. I'm really looking forward to a very simple dinner but I'll still buy a small turkey when they're available and cheap to keep in the freezer for Christmas or New Years.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2023 18:46

Sounds like a quiet, but good, holiday plan, Math. It's just past 10:30am and I'm home in good time even with 4 stops on the way home, including grabbing an almond croissant at a cafe. Doctor said she's on call over the weekend so will phone with results. Your cat has the right idea! I'll be looking for a nap later as haven't had enough sleep and am taking Havoc out tonight to a Hallowe'en lights event.

Another beautiful fall day here. Planning on linguine and scallops for dinner.

whyyy321 · 12/10/2023 19:05

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc ! Feeling a bit sore still tonight but hoping paracetamol and a hot water bottle will help me sleep a bit better at least. Backs are funny aren't they as they say not to rest too much for fear of seizing up?

Sounds like some lovely thanksgiving plans @mathanxiety - do you have 5 children in total? I'm in awe, ds is 13 months and I can't imagine managing to juggle two even!

MissConductUS · 12/10/2023 20:54

I have no idea what we're doing on Thanksgiving this year. Most years my brother and SIL host, but now that they have grandchildren, they may be going to visit them in Massachusettes. I'm not even sure if DD will be home or doing something with her fiancee's family.

And speaking of DD, she's trying to make the wedding work for next June. She wants DH and I to visit a nearby wedding venue she found online and put down a non-refundable deposit of a few thousand dollars for a date in June. If we do so, she'll probably not like it when she sees it herself, and it will be all our fault. We are calling her tonight to try to convince that she can't arrange the dress, venue, flowers, DJ, cake, and photographer in that short a time frame from 200 miles away while in uni. God, give me strength. This is going to be hard.

Thanks Havoc Love the pumpkins.

Thanks Why Its my DH who cooks aligot, he is French and very good at cooking.

Good luck with the wedding planning MissC

That sounds a nice Thanksgiving plan Math

Had a haircut still short post chemo but at least more of a style again, want to grow it long again, well shoulder length like it was before. Keeps coming back with curls and so thick, have to keep getting curls cut as they grow horizontally. Its finally growing straightish now.

Then went swimming and did 100 lengths and swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. I did feel a bit bad when the hairdresser said are you doing anything nice this evening after your haircut and I said swimming. 😂I apologised that I was about to trash all her good work but she took it well.

Silkierabbit · 13/10/2023 11:18

The tiler is here 🙀Well maybe not the tiler but a tiler and happy to have any tiler atm. Rumour is kitchen guys may turn up this afternoon, really hope it's all finished today but even tiling is a good step as very little left to do.

Floof is so happy, we have 1.1 metres of trilling hyper cat especially when DH goes upstairs and he's leaping around trying to see what is going on upstairs and downstairs at the same time. The tiler complimented him too so Floof is in love.

Silkierabbit · 13/10/2023 13:09

Tiler has finished.😍

There are still a few bits and pieces to be done, but very close now. Think it's sockets and smoke alarm back, a bit of worktop which needs trimming an inch or so and a tiny few bits of blue paint and the plinth and tiles cut at front of cooker for feet so same height front and back. 3 handles to be screwed back. And all their tools removed of which there are many but should go in their big van. Hoping they are coming this afternoon but we will see. Good to have tiles done anyway. We have to put blinds up.
