Have should be haven't

Uremindmeofthebabe · 25/07/2023 22:16

@MissConductUS where do you live? The wildlife around you is beautiful!

sproutsandparsnips · 25/07/2023 22:35

Silkie your days always sound lovely! I could not get on with Lord of the Rings however.
Counting down days to holiday now - last day in work for me until then but DH still has 2 days left.
Havoc hope you are feeling better - looking forward to visiting your beautiful city soon.
Miss lovely wildlife
Lemons love your countryside.....

morelippy · 25/07/2023 22:40

I bought a new (large) ceramic plant pot yesterday, with a mind to repotting a pot bound houseplant and using it

Today I bought 2 new plastic pots for said repotting as I couldn't decide in the shop which would fit.

Both are waaaay too big.

Clearly I have a problem assessing sizes and need something more interesting in my life.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 25/07/2023 22:56

The snails have romped through my sweet peas but have left my nasturtiums. Today was my day off, instead of the things I had planned I moved between the couch and the spare room, just lying around drinking tea and reading old school magazine. Removed every bit of clutter from living room, rearranged shelves to have only colour coordinated books, some natural finds and nothing else, it's very relaxing. For lunch I had an iced white chocolate raspberry donut, God it was good. Enjoying walking into empty very tidy rooms. The calm Factor is life changing. Love this thread, thanks.

MissConductUS · 25/07/2023 23:15

It's been a busy afternoon and evening on the thread!

Lovely picture, lemons. I'd go mad if I couldn't get out and walk every day.

Silkie, DH used to make a red wine and shallots sauce to go with steak. I'll have to ask him to make it again. We generally don't have wine in the house, but he can get some for cooking. That was pretty smooth of your daughter to intercept those books.

Welcome, @Uremindmeofthebabe , and thanks for your question. I
I usually post my location at the beginning of these threads but have neglected to do so. I live in a rural/suburban area north of New York City called the Hudson Highlands. For the nosy among you, I am a Yank who has never visited the UK, but my also American husband lived in London for a time. I have mostly Irish ancestry, and my husband's is mostly English. 😁

For our newcomers, feel free to share your general location if you care to. We have a lot of geographic diversity on this thread.

Sprouts, Lord of the Rings wasn't my cup of tea either.

Welcome, @morelippy, and thanks for your gardening news. Feel free to post some pictures of your plants. We love pictures on these threads. I'll try to take a few of my deck garden and post them tomorrow. I also have an odd collection of plant pots.

Welcome, @PTSDBarbiegirl and thanks for sharing your calming gardening and tidying news. Your lunch donut sounds fab! And I'm so pleased that you find the thread calming. I've always thought of it as neighbors chatting over tea or the garden fence. It's not your typical MN discussion.

I had to drive home in thunderstorms, which had me worried about more flooding, but nothing too challenging occurred. The rain is now over. DH is making grilled cheese sandwiches on sourdough bread for dinner.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday Sprouts it sounds amazing.

Welcome MoreLippy and Barbie That sounds good to have that sorted Barbie.

I have just had a chocolate choux bun and I'm having an Archers, elderflower cordial and fizzy water.

Floof has just started trilling. DD has said she is staying at her friends tonight.

I ordered a few things for DS, a soft toy sloth and 3 books which doubtless will get intercepted by DD. One on the US constitution as he used to be obsessed with Trump, one on Malala and the Hobbit. I read Lord of the Rings as a child but didn't particularly like it but he's watched the Hobbit on Netflix. Its really rare for him to read fiction but he did read Harry Potter years back.

Silkierabbit · 26/07/2023 00:19

DD got DH to pick up Floof, he was not impressed, grumpy cat face.

Thanks for new thread MissC....
So much to catch up in !

I am back from a wonderful day from ds's graduation 🎓🎓!

Still on a little bit of a high but I have a lovely cup of tea next to me which is what I was missing all day !

Wine and fizz is lovely...but you can't beat a good cuppa ☕☕!!

Weather was very kind to us...grey clouds....but nothing dropped from them !

Got an extra meal for free in the restaurant as they gave us a very nice dish we hadn't ordered......but we're only going to chuck in any way ...so we had it !!!

The whole day was over in a bit of a blur really

Though I did need to find a tissue when he walked on the stage which caught me out a bit !

Came home to find the other boys hadn't put the bins out last night 😞😞!!

But as I always like to finish on a positive note ....I have found an app to smooth my scrawny neck from the photos 😁😁😂😂!
..

Silkierabbit · 26/07/2023 00:25

Congrats on your DSs graduation Bizzey I have lots of tea as well but been told to cut down if want to sleep at night.

Silkierabbit · 26/07/2023 00:27

Silki ...have you tried the chronophoto yet ?

MissConductUS · 26/07/2023 00:31

I have a new iPad and just figured out how to post pictures taken on my phone here. I took these on the deck before dinner. The woods close to the house are ours but further back is a county nature preserve.

I just tried it Bizzey, I got 2326, got points on all but 1.

Lovely photos MissC

Plan to sleep isn't going that well. Wandering whether to keep trying or Below Deck Australia.

RubiesAndRaindrops · 26/07/2023 12:01

This thread is surprisingly relaxing! My little one had his first morning at nursery today ready for my return to work. He loved it, lots of smiles and exploring a new environment. He's having a nap but it'll then be lunch and maybe sewing some name tags into his clothes.

Deathraystare · 26/07/2023 13:53

@PTSDBarbiegirl

Rotten snails! When I had a garden I had everlasting Sweet peas. Love them!

Makemineacosmo · 26/07/2023 13:56

Oh I like this thread! I'm at the hairdresser's waiting for my highlights to develop. Then it's a trip to the supermarket and home for dinner. Probably salmon but haven't fully decided yet. Then, and exciting evening of cleaning the bathrooms and watching The Chase.

MissConductUS · 26/07/2023 14:51

Welcome, @Makemineacosmo, and thanks for sharing your calming coiffure and shopping news. I'm so glad you like the thread. It is a bit of an oasis of calm among the chaos of MN.

I'm working from home this morning but have to leave soon to have gum surgery that's been put off to long. It's the second attempt to cure an infection that developed after a dental implant failed. Needless to say I am not looking forward to it and will probably be a bit out of sorts for the rest of the day.

The birds are mobbing the feeder this morning. There are several out of the picture queuing for their turn.

I got a new plant for the kitchen and I named it Herbert - Yes, you read that right. Herbert

TeamsInterview · 26/07/2023 15:09

Afternoon all , my new duvet arrived today and slightly more exciting, I'm waiting to hear if I have got the job that I interviewed for yesterday.

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/07/2023 15:24

Have had a very boring day cleaning tidying etc etc without my DS who is in nursery.

lovely picture MissC it looks like a lovely area you live in.

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 26/07/2023 15:33

I'm a bit worried that this might be disqualified from the thread because it is actually very exciting.......

I left my hoodie at the Leicester Forest Services Days Inn on Thursday night and when I realised I'd left it behind on the back of the bathroom door, I was very upset to find that when I later phoned them to ask if it had been found or handed in, the answer was no. I explained my love for this top, and the receptionist was very sympathetic and got another member of staff to check the room again, but there was nothing she could do to help me. As well as being my absolute favourite item of clothing, the loss resulted in me being cold all weekend on holiday. Nothing fancy, about 15 years old, reduced rail at Asda job, wear it for pottering about, but I love it. I resigned myself to having to finally let it go.

Then on the way home up the M1, I decided to give it one last desperate try and called in to see if it had somehow magically turned up. "Ohhhh, it was me you spoke to on the phone the other day. I'm so sorry, it's just not here. Our staff always make sure all lost items are handed in and nobody has seen it. I'm so sorry! I know you said how much you loved it, ah, bless you my love.........
Let's give it one more try..."

Lo and behold, she came back towards the reception desk - "Is it a zip one? Light grey?" whilst tantalizingly holding something behind her back.
"Yes!!" I cried. "Old, a bit floppy, the strings are all frayed..." The anticipation.....
"This one?"
"Yeeessssss!!!" I punched the air 💪

It had been hanging up in the cleaner's room, everyone apparently assuming it belonged to a member of staff. Well, it's mine! Mine, I tell you! I can't tell you how mundanely happy I am 🙅

In a lovely ending, the ladies on reception were singing "Reunited and it feels so good..." on my way out 🤗

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 26/07/2023 16:32

This is the thread for me. Hi everyone. My life is dull but I quite like it that way.

I have no real motivation today and I'm fed up with that.

It's raining. I should go to the post office but I won't.

I need to wash my hair, that I'll do, better late than never.

My latest clothes catalogue arrived yesterday but I had no chance to look at it, I was so busy. It's siren call is insisting that I empty my bank account in favour of lots of floaty new things. The front cover (the only bit I've seen) is all greens and blues that reminds me of the sea - I'd like to be floating on the sea somewhere, so long as it's warm.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/07/2023 17:00

Lots of activity this thread!
Still dealing with latest covid bout - #3 this year. Unsure if I posted about it on last thread.
Been sick about a week after only having recovered from last bout 4 days. So, feeling quite a lot of self-pity. Woke up coughing at 5am, lasted about an hour. Calculated 17 weeks of covid illness since Feb.

Temp went down to 13c overnight. It's been cool all week since much needed rain on Monday.

Sprouts, you must be ready to go/already on hols now. Can't wait to read about it!!!

Since we've been sick past week Havoc has picked up a new word: diarrhoea. 😝😭🤣

Says it over and over...🤦‍♀️

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 26/07/2023 18:25

Gosh mumtobabyhavoc, you've been really unlucky with illness - I hope you're all better soon.

I had my hair highlighted yesterday, and I've got salmon out of the freezer for this evening.

I have deck envy MissC! I'm sitting on our (much smaller deck) under an umbrella, preparing for a job interview tomorrow, and looking at the birds flying in and out of the woods.

I'm thinking of visiting the Hudson Highlands in the next few weeks as DH goes there for work every few weeks. Any recommendations for things to do/see there?
