What's the most stuck up place you've been to?

Having just recently seen a video of a young man doing a video of Farnham on TikTok saying it's Tory and stuck up etc.

I was wondering if you've come across any town that has had stuck up people and what was your thoughts on such a place?

You would't have thought a really posh woman would be working as a barmaid would you?

Cool story though.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 13/04/2023 20:21

What quantifies posh? Young farmers in Cirencester was full of hooray Henries in the 80s does that count

cheapskatemum · 13/04/2023 20:21

Holt in N Norfolk. I didn't like it at all.

Babington House. Dh and I looked round it I had never seen people turn to see who had entered the room then literally stick their noses in the air when they clicked it was just a couple of plebs!

Why not? I know plenty of posh sounding people who've worked a bar before. What a daft thing to say.

Berkhamstead in Hertfordshire - so far up its own arse it's untrue! And many of the residents think their farts smell of roses. Nothing special at all - nearby Tring is far, far nicer.

I was in a little clothing boutique in Tiburon, California and was holding up a plain sleeveless top. The clerk came over, eyed me up and down, yanked it out of my hand and said - "That's for someone really thin".😂...I'm a US size 4 or 6.

Don't judge all of Burford by one pub.

DH and I are dead common and we've never had a problem in Burford.

lovemenomore · 13/04/2023 20:27

I lived in Burford and never experienced anything like the poster says....?! Bizarre

RedToothBrush · 13/04/2023 20:28

Hated York.

Full of nothing but rude entitled people.

I was going to say this.
We were having a lovely time in Norfolk and the friends we were with suggested we go as lots of people they knew in London recommended it.
It was really not my cuppa, loads of Range Rovers and men in red trousers

Lymington - pretentious, unfriendly and overall snooty place full of the sailing fraternity. Stuck up locals who are unwelcoming to outsiders. Also has an increasingly not so hidden problem with drugs and violent crime.

Horsham - the town centre is pretentious, trying to be European like with posh coffee shops and restaurants. Some very stuck up locals and independent retailers.

Hythe and Dibden and most of the New Forest - the locals believe they are better than everyone else because of where they live. Narrow unfriendly, unwelcoming to outsiders, a hidden undercurrent of nastiness.

We went to a lovely little island just off Cannes....walked around it all, roasting hot, needed a cool drink and some food. We walked into a restaurant literally on the beach and sat down, waiting for one of the young waiting staff to take our order. And we waited...and waited...and no one came near us. They approached other tables and totally ignored us. Obviously we hadn't just came off a mega yacht, as some people were doing!!! We were just ordinary punters. Who gave up and walked out.

A baby sensory class in Harpenden. It was typical "wave scarf at baby then stick a pot of thyme in their face". No one spoke to me. DS was 10 weeks old and alternated between feeding and crying the whole way through. One of the other mums looked at me pityingly and told me in a loud voice that her DD had loved the class ever since she started coming at eight weeks old.

I have thought of many witty comebacks in the 13 years since then but at that moment I decided the class wasn't for me.
