What's the most stuck up place you've been to?

Having just recently seen a video of a young man doing a video of Farnham on TikTok saying it's Tory and stuck up etc.

I was wondering if you've come across any town that has had stuck up people and what was your thoughts on such a place?

Burford

bought a round of drinks in the pub and as the barmaid gave the change

she said

now drink up and fuck off

in the poshest voice ever

Believe me: every single bar person serving last orders is literally thinking ‘fuck off’ as they hand you your drinks.

I think there is a difference between being posh and stuck up. There's nothing wrong with being posh, but I find stuck up people rather unpleasant.

Midsummer House restaurant in Cambridge.

deedeedelmonte · 13/04/2023 21:14

St Ives. It was really cold and wet so we were looking in the shops and went into a boutique looking a bit bedraggled. Picked up a jumper and asked if I could try it on. The owner told me I was too big and it would not fit me.

Kingham, in the Cotswolds.

notacooldad · 13/04/2023 21:14

Lytham
Seriously?

Judelawswife68 · 13/04/2023 21:14

So we're talking about posh people or snobs? I'm confused.
Too common and thick.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 13/04/2023 21:15

Ah, thank you. I think I might have mistaken those buns for the fur bobble on riding hats. I googled rara buns and it gave me photos of cinnamon swirls.

Posh people would never have a pompom on their hat silk, that's way too chavvy!

MorrisZapp · 13/04/2023 21:15

Florence, Italy. I've never seen such horror from shop assistants at the thought of a pleb touching their t-shirts.

Winchester.

York is not snooty!

It's a bit 'white middle class', but it's absolutely not snooty.

I don't know anyone who lives in Haxby (as mentioned by a pp), but I wouldn't regard anything beyond the ring road as part of York.

Also Abersoch
Loads of posh kids from Cheshire

Plenty of bits of Cheshire that aren't at all posh btw ;)

Lots of industrial/ railway past here. And salt....

MotherWol · 13/04/2023 21:17

Absolutely Holt. My folks live in Norfolk and I’m pretty familiar with most of it, and most of the county’s lovely, even the posh bits around Blakeney/Thornham/Wells, outside of high season. But Holt is the only place I’ve ever felt uncomfortable and like I’m being judged just walking into a shop!

So that's the islands of Crewe, Winsford and bits of Northwich.

Everywhere else is posh. And in Abersoch on bank holidays.

Wokenupbybirdsong · 13/04/2023 21:19

Alderley Edge
Knutsford
Bramhall
Abersoch
Quinta do Lago & Vale do lobo (Algarve)

Clifton, Bristol. I was looking for mother of the groom's clothes for our son's wedding, but had dressed for comfort in jeans and trainers. The shop assistant in one of the shops literally followed me around as if she was certain I was going to steal something. Funny thing was, I could easily have afforded anything in her shop (not a boast - just for info), but she made me feel so uncomfortable that I left asap.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 13/04/2023 21:12

Which is different to what the thread is about. The thread is about going to places that are stuck up, not about having your home town invaded by insensitive knobbers, which must be a bloody nightmare.

Yes I see but there is a blurry line here for me. There are lots of references here to North Norfolk and I recognise the frustrations of both locals (I was one and will be again) and visitors.

That's an excellent distinction that is lost on many MNers.

Berko
Harpenden
Henley
St Albans
and Tunbridge feckin Wells! Sorry Royal Tunbridge feckin Wells- I was corrected by some fecker that lived there( I had the misfortune of working there for a year).

SuffolkBargeWoman · 13/04/2023 21:21

What does stuck up actually mean?
People seem to be talking about unfriendliness, is that it?
Others about feeling looked down on (which is unfriendly but also an issue in its own right).
I'm confused.
But as a PP said, if you don't have a chip on your shoulder you won't have a problem.
