What's the most stuck up place you've been to?

Having just recently seen a video of a young man doing a video of Farnham on TikTok saying it's Tory and stuck up etc.

I was wondering if you've come across any town that has had stuck up people and what was your thoughts on such a place?

I've lived in York, Winchester & New Forest and I'm not surprised by any of them appearing on this list!

Puppylucky · 13/04/2023 20:55

Brighton is pretty stuck up for such a mixed place.

Ishouldbeoutside · 13/04/2023 20:56

Godalming in Surrey.

Accrington

Betty's tea room in Harrogate. I lived in the town but it was made very clear by both the clientele that myself and my friend weren't 'the right sort'.

What was the island?

Assume they took the boat out to St Tropez or St Raphael. I did it too one year and ended up in a lovely cafe in Cannes. Was ignored too but I blame my primark dress lol

Yep Newbury. Some prize arseholes there. Concentrated in a tiny space. Usually ensconced themselves on a committee to do "charity". But have no kindness, empathy, decency at all. Dressed up as poshness.

Knutsford, Cheshire

I've never encountered anywhere that was particularly stuck-up. But I don't have a chip on my shoulder.

This. I don't mind posh people and don't feel inferior to them, so never find anywhere particularly stuck up. I have nice manners, brush my hair, and wear actual clothes when I go out instead of pyjamas and this helps in most situations, I find.

Hakkasan Hanway Place. Waitress was very snooty when we asked to see the cheaper Sunday set menu; you’d think I’d taken a piss on the floor.

It was certainly a different experience from when we used to go and were able to eat a la carte. Wouldn’t go back now even if we won the lottery.

IHeartKingThistle · 13/04/2023 21:03

North Farnham isn't like that!

WaitingfortheTardis · 13/04/2023 21:03

I found Burghley to be all rara buns, posh wellies and Land Rovers. It was very pretty though.

toiletinacupboard · 13/04/2023 21:05

Falmouth and the Finisterre huns

Thatsshallot1967 · 13/04/2023 21:06

Richmond (Surrey), extremely snobby and elite-ish.

Windingdown · 13/04/2023 21:06

What are rara buns please?

ExtremelyDetermined · 13/04/2023 21:06

I spend time regularly in Farnham, Winchester, Cobham, Cirencester, Solihull and occasionally in Newbury and Godalming. I’d say Cirencester out of those, but it always feels friendly. In fact I like all of them and I’m not particularly posh.

You don't have to have a chip on your shoulder to despair that your part of the world has been colonised by braying twats.

Salcombe
Cowbridge in Vale of Glamorgan
Southwold and Aldeburgh
Most of London :)

WaitingfortheTardis · 13/04/2023 21:09

@Windingdown It's just a high slightly scruffy bun, not so much now but for a while it was ubiquitous amongst the posher end of the horsey crowd.

Hell121 · 13/04/2023 21:09

When we were in Cannes and walking through the town DS asked why the shops had security guards. I said to keep the riff-raff out. He asked who that was so I replied "us"

Anyway I'm from York (don't live there anymore) and agree.

I (genuinely) find it the other way around.

Which is different to what the thread is about. The thread is about going to places that are stuck up, not about having your home town invaded by insensitive knobbers, which must be a bloody nightmare.

Ah, thank you. I think I might have mistaken those buns for the fur bobble on riding hats. I googled rara buns and it gave me photos of cinnamon swirls.
