Weird things that make you feel comforted...

Not the usual things like kittens and hot chocolate. Just random things.

Has anyone got Netflix? You know Derek? Well the show in general makes me feel warm and cozy, because it's filled with care and loving characters.

But at the end of every episode... the channel 4 logo appears and that little chime plays (I can't remember the name for that!) but for some reason it makes me feel calm. Like it's nighttime and everyone is peacefully at home with a little lamp on under a quilt.

The crack of dawn imagining you're near the sea and can hear the sound of ship horns whilst still under your blanket waking up.

Driving past parked lorries in the dark imagining how nice it would be to be tucked up in one of those cabbies with a blanket and surrounded by the lights they decorate them with.

80s films, like ET, Stand By Me and The Goonies where again it's nighttime and the kids are all gathered around eating pizza or telling ghost stories with nothing to worry about because they're kids. Simpler times.

Being on a canal boat with the log burner in full works, or sat on the pontoon with a fold out chair and a bottle of wine in the evening.

Can you tell? I like nighttime and water 😃

Single beds. If there’s a small single bed and a double in a hotel room I pick the single 🤣 I like the smaller space.

Literally lying under a blanket and reading on my phone, but this is likely due to being overstimulated all day, I'm so boring lol.

Small shabby living rooms with squishy sofas. The sound of the washing machine. Sitting in a cafe and looking at the rain outside.

shivers with cosiness

The Casualty theme tune. It takes me right back to Saturday evenings when I was small and the Casualty theme music meant it was time to get ready for bed.

I'm not an alcoholic but I love the sound of wine being poured

Standing under a very hot shower when I'm cold, or ill or depressed and feeling the force of the water pummelling my muscles and warming me almost from the inside out, leaving me tingling before wrapping myself in a warmed bath sheet. 🌹

Hearing the sound of the collared doves in the morning when I am still in bed . I always heard them when I stayed at my gran’s in Kent . Now I live very close to where she did and hear them as an adult .
Rolling myself in the duvet like a sausage roll .
Also hiding under the duvet on cold nights and imagining I am a little bunny sheltering and being all safe and cosy .

When it’s quiet at night and I have my bedroom window open I can just hear the trains passing in the distance. It’s not close enough to disturb me. It’s just soothing.

Waking up before everyone else and having a cup of coffee in peace before anyone needs anything from me.

Rarely happens, but so precious when it does.

Lying in the bath and the first time I sink down and let my head under the water (face poking out!)
My hair traps hundreds of tiny air bubbles and they wriggle their way along my scalp to reach the surface.
It's like a tiny jacuzzi for my head.
It feels sooooo good and I lie there smiling.
Only happens the once as wet hair doesn't have any more air pockets.

I like napping on coaches, flights etc when there is the murmur of people talking in the background.

It makes me feel like I'm safe to nod off, as the grown ups are around.

I'm 47.

This probably falls into the category of usual but the comfort I get from a hot water bottle is immense. It warms my very soul.

Sleeping with a towel on my pillow fresh out of the airing cupboard. Reminds me of being poorly when I was little.

Watching shows such as Spaced, Father Ted, Dinner Ladies, Royal Family and Absolutely Fabulous.

I also find great comfort in watching QVC.

I have the same soft toy from when I was tiny and suck my thumb.....I'm 40.

This is a weird one but the sound of an old fashioned, ticking clock. It really reminds me of being at my grandparents house as a child. Takes me back to that feeling of being loved and nurtured.

Listening to rain when going to sleep, bonus points if It's the morning after a night shift and I'm going to bed when other people are getting up. I used to live right by a train station and I also used to like hearing people walking to the station in the rain while I was all cosy.

This is gross, but chewing on the sleeve of my jumper or on the edge of my sofa blanket.

The sound of traffic outside in the early hours of the morning. The sound of a bus passing on the road outside my house. Makes me feel that life is going on outside.
