Nice new thread! Today I am wfh so have got stuff done before the school run. Big job today is to reloate my desk into the spare room. DH totally not on board with it as he has spread his things everywhere but I want our bedroom back!

Alltheclouds · 17/01/2023 11:39

How is your new job going @RunningKatie? I have a similar situation only it's my dining room that's been lost!

I am taking a short break to set up our new thread but I'm actually at work. Hopefully by the time I get home the others will have found us!

Hello! Found you! Thanks @Alltheclouds Smile Thanks

Alltheclouds · 17/01/2023 15:46

Hello @SnowAndIceLobelia 👋

@Aria999 @Mumtobabyhavoc @Peridot1 @Petalpower @DressingForRevenge @SpiritOfEdna we're over here!

OP posts:
Alltheclouds · 17/01/2023 15:56

@Peridot1 I'd stay home too under those circumstances! Well done for getting the decorations away.
@SnowAndIceLobelia and @DressingForRevenge I am by no means 'holier than thou' re books and bad threads, but all the arguing made my head spin, and as you know, it was already slightly off it's axis. So in proper MN fashion I had myself a bit of a flounce, but missed my coffee-house friends, so I rejoined within 24 hours with my new name and severely pruned settings. Then I don't read things that getme all exercised impact my wobbly brain.

You never are off your axis @Alltheclouds - especially with your straightness training. 😁 I find myself “sit the fuck down and get your leg on the girth” - I cringe when I see people in the ring flinging themselves from “Welsh farmer” to “Annette Lewis” in one not-so-fluid motion.

@SnowAndIceLobelia I’ve been dealing with the dumbass brigade from the Scottish gov today on our OTHER bad topic. 🙄 I like you cross…

Today… I got the bins out 5 minutes before they arrived so I’m winning. I also had to order more oodies. Never tumble dry an oodie - it’ll become a crispie. Expensive mistake. Putting the tumble dryer on I mean. 😉

I don’t sing to them. 😉

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/01/2023 18:33

Well that didn't quite work...🤦‍♀️

Alltheclouds · 17/01/2023 18:41

Ah but do they sing to you @DressingForRevenge?!
I remember Annette Lewis and Tutein...those acrobatics were quite....agile!

I see what you were trying to do there @Mumtobabyhavoc 😂

@DressingForRevenge once I got so cross on the other bad topic that a subsequent poster asked if English was my first language.

😡😆

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 19:13

Ooh cute seals. sigh. ❤

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 19:14

[I have just figured out how to do the extra emojis! ]

RunningKatie · 17/01/2023 19:55

Poor oodies, that's definitely an expensive mistake. We got DH a cheapie Primark one for Christmas, he was complimented by the post lady on it - haven't seen him wear it since! 😁

Aria999 · 17/01/2023 20:11

I clearly don't hang out on the bad side of Mumsnet very much. Fogged, baffled and confused as to what the various Bad Topics are! Maybe I should keep it that way...

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 21:00

I had a vaguely successful day today. I bullied strongly persuaded Dh into sending pics of the furniture we wish to sell to the auction people. It has taken about 10 days for agreement, list making, to actually contacting them! I wanted DH to do this because he has a relationship with the auction people and I do not. (with the exception of a Victorian bookcase everything we wish to sell was bought from them originally!)

I also contemplated touching up the paint in one of the bedrooms. This mainly meant that I stood in the bedroom and looked at the raggedy bits and pursed my lips a bit and huffed to myself. I see a trip to B&Q tomorrow.

petalpower · 17/01/2023 21:04

Good to find you all over on the new thread!
I’m ok thank you @Alltheclouds . Some issues are sorting themselves out but my dad has early Alzheimer’s and that’s only heading one way. One day at a time …
Today I’ve been to aqua fit, written a sent a thank you note, paid a bill, booked some concert tickets and taken part in a very frustrating Teams call about care home auntie’s nursing funding.

Peridot1 · 18/01/2023 09:03

Found you all! Thanks for the new thread @Alltheclouds. I’ve been ignoring the RF stuff. It’s not worth the aggro!

Still very cold here but so much nicer than the endless rain we’ve had. Managed to take the dog around the field at the back yesterday which we haven’t done for a few weeks as it’s been like a swamp.

I think I did most of yesterday’s jobs. Except the post office/bottle bank trip. Been moving ornaments around the house in the list Christmas shuffle in an effort to freshen things up a bit. We got new table lamps for the living area which involved moving a lamp with a marble base into the study - one of those big lamps which curves over. New lamps in situ and looking good. Need to order curtains today.

Today’s jobs are a quick tidy round before the cleaners come, possibly a quick post office/bottle bank trip. I need to start sorting out my summer clothes as I’m off to Australia next month. I also need to book a handy man to come and put up a mirror which DH reckons is too complicated for him. It’s been leaning against the wall in y bedroom for two years.

Lovely seal pic thanks @DressingForRevenge. Hope you get the funding issues sorted @petalpower.

SpiritOfEdna · 18/01/2023 09:25

@petalpower Flowers

hello shiny new thread.

We have arranged for some work to be done in the yard (re-paving) so there is a lot of work to be done on our side to clear it. Work starts next Monday. So today's plan is:

  • empty the pots of the dregs of the summer's plants and clean the pots & find somewhere to store them. There's a lot of them so it will have to be done over a couple of days culminating in a trip to the tip.
  • pray that the tumbler dryer can be fixed today - or is is an expensive replacement
  • tidy my work desk
  • decant the stuff from the day bed back into their appropriate places

It looks a lot, but they can all be done in 5 min chucks when I need a break from work.

Have a good day all.
SoE

Alltheclouds · 18/01/2023 13:04

Kids are funny @RunningKatie Post lady noticing him and being nice - horrifying! I was the same!

I love how you keep us on track with your list of jobs @SpiritOfEdna Yours looks formidable and my fingers are crossed for your tumble drye 🤞

I have a pes anserine knee injury according to Dr google so it's up and under a packet of frozen peas. Very sore and threatened to give way a couple of times. Luckily not working anyway today.

So sorry about dad @petalpower Vile illness :( Pleased other things are working themselves out! I've done a bit of heavy duty parenting this week but thankfully things working out here too!

I too am relieved at lack of mud @Peridot1 I think it may have caused the knee. Cold and blue skies here today :) How lovely going to Australia- may we know which bit?

Persuasive and productive week @SnowAndIceLobelia well done!

Stick with me on the safe threads @Aria999 💕

Really must write some lists at least here. And think about some batch cooking.

I too have been avoiding argumentative threads. Lots of discussions on MN seem to just turn into fights now!
I forgot to say that yesterday I cleaned the tv remote controls with damp cotton buds as they looked absolutely grim.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/01/2023 20:00

Hello lovely people. 😊
I, too, have been browsing and replying on various other boards. I've offered sincere and kind advice, at times (gently) called out mean replies, and at times made snappy remarks. The kind boards are, by far, more worth time spent.

I've managed to clean the bathroom and wash the floor; put a load of laundry in and fold/put away another; and wash the kitchen floor. Just put Havoc down for nap and and am thinking about dinner... maybe, if I can get to the store, will make beef barley soup with som crusty bread. Although I might use lamb as I have that in the freezer.

@petal I sympathize about your dad. My mum has early dementia, frontal lobe, so it's mood/rationality/judgement that are affected. Long term memory is quite affected, too, which is sad because we can't really talk about old times now and she can't offer baby advice as she doesn't really remember what she did when I was a baby or recall any details to tell me stories about when I was small. It's bitter when our parents' health declines. 🌹

I plan to get some more chores done today, so will update when I do! 😊
