Oh that is good news @ComeTheSpringLobelia . I was getting a bit worried that we’d lost @Alltheclouds !
Loving the new name @FatSealSmugSoup .
Today I’ve been to meet an old friend for a cup of tea that I hadn’t seen for 10years. So lovely to catch up after so long. I’m going into the care home this afternoon as auntie still has a chest infection and really doesn’t seem well. I’m quite worried about her. Not sure what else I’ll achieve apart from the usual bits and pieces.
I agree it’s a bit quiet around these parts @Peridot1 . Hope everyone is ok and just busy with real life.

RunningKatie · 31/01/2023 10:06

Oh I have properly laughed at @FatSealSmugSoup - an awesome name change!
I've had a birthday this weekend, honestly can't believe how time is marching on, I work with lots of glamorous young things and very much feel like the frumpy dumpy nearly 50 year old in the corner.
Today I need to try on my new wellies for size, and I really need to waft a duster around.
Tomorrow for school strikes I have one in and one at home. Went down better than I expected but still, makes for a fun day.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 31/01/2023 10:11

Oh I hear you on the frumpy dumpy nearly 50 year old @RunningKatie . I joined a gym yesterday and did legs bums and tums. Bloody hell. That came about after a friend who is known for 'plain speaking' suggested that I think about getting a tummy tuck. Hmm

Also loving the name change @FatSealSmugSoup !

No news Chez Lobelia. I think I am having a mid life crisis though as all I can think about is running away to sea (and preferably finding Ed Harris on my boat).

Hope everyone has a lovely day. Thanks

Aria999 · 31/01/2023 11:53

Lol @FatSealSmugSoup if you have invented a new antibiotic you can probably stop worrying about the day job 🤣

Glad to hear @Alltheclouds is ok

Still haven't made soup. Maybe this week!

SpiritOfEdna · 31/01/2023 13:49

hello, where is the week going? @ComeTheSpringLobelia that is so annoying about the car damage,

Pavers in full flow, it's very noisy but today they should be finished, it is looking very good, The flowerbed is not going to be very high, so we will have to rethink what is going to go in there.

  • hopefully the garden furniture can go back out tonight from the living room and the hanging baskets can go back out too
  • I've started to sort out what is going back into the tool shed. We've already demolished one small shed as it wasn't very weather proof and was damp/soggy in places.
  • I've managed to snap my car key so a replacement is coming tomorrow, so no swim/gym for me tonight/tomorrow
  • I can feel another tip trip coming on once my car is sorted.
  • Poor dog has missed out on her normal daytime adventures, today will be her last day of being walked out in the dark :-)
  • we have got TheNiece staying at the weekend, so the house needs to be a bit tidier for her. Once all the garden stuff is gone, it'll be easier to blitz the place.

Have a good day

SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/01/2023 20:01

Hello everyone. 😊
I finally managed to take everything, or so I thought, out of Havoc's room last night and stack it all in the dining room. It only took an hour but it was 10:30pm when I was done then realized I had forgotten to take everything from the closet. 🤦‍♀️
So, I'll finish that today, vacuum and shampoo the carpet. Will also try to clean the window, sill, etc where moisture collects. Next will be washing walls and baseboards. If I get it all done today I'll be quite pleased.

Have been enjoying reading everyone's updates. Lots of projects happening!

Aria999 · 31/01/2023 22:26

@SpiritOfEdna you are always so productive!

@RunningKatie glad the job is going well! Also very impressed you landed a more senior role right after a break from work.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I think I must have missed an earlier post. Why the need to empty havoc's room, are you decorating?

I made soup! I don't think it counts as smug soup though, more like desperate soup with nearly dead leeks and seriously tired potatoes. It tastes... ok. I am the only one in the family who eats it anyway.

Otherwise just catching up on basic life admin from the last two weeks.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/02/2023 06:59

Cleaning spree this evening while it's snowing. 🥶
Vacuumed and shampooed the carpet in Havoc's room, hall, living room; then decided to shampoo the couch. 🤦‍♀️
Cleaned the bathroom wand washed the bathroom and kitchen floors. 😁
On a roll....😊

FatSealSmugSoup · 01/02/2023 08:33

I’m delighted to hear @Alltheclouds is still kicking - albeit weekly.

@Aria999 - a hangover from the 70s? We eat stuff because it’s “like it or lump it”? No way on earth would my mum have got up with a cheery “don’t worry sweetie, you don’t have to - let me make some turkey twizzlers for you”. 😉

I have never eaten seal - although I’m sure it’s been done in the past. 🤮

kids are home today although thank gosh there’s stuff going on in the village for them from 11 to 8:30. Cheers!

Today I’m going to take a binbag upstairs so I can start filling for the charity shop again. I should do more but I’m so behind at work as we keep getting power cuts due to the weather. No internet, no workee. And I’m far too old to be logging on at 10 to finish the job.

Peridot1 · 01/02/2023 08:58

Morning all!

Lovely to read all your updates. You all sound very productive.

Your ‘friend’ sounds a tad rude @ComeTheSpringLobelia! Well done on the gym joining though. I am contemplating similar but not till I get back from Australia.

We had a new washing machine delivered yesterday and they had to take everything out of the cupboard under the sink which was easy as it was in two plastic boxes but I’m going to sort it before it goes back in. A lot can get thrown away I think. I found some Flash eraser things I’d forgotten about and tried them on some dirty marks on the walls by the stairs and they worked really well. Also finally ordered the curtains I’ve been planning to order all month. I also need to make some soup. Sweet potato and lentil.

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 01/02/2023 14:46

It’s blessedly quiet here today - no workmen! The new paving has been well and truly christened by the dog - she drank water from what we call The Swamp and since then, yuck.

Not sure where the day has gone but:

  • still waiting for the car key guy to turn up
  • shuffling stuff around boxes to go back into the shed
  • need to find clean bedding for TheNiece at the weekend
  • lots of cleaning to do!

Have a good day,

SoE

Aria999 · 01/02/2023 16:41

Wow @Mumtobabyhavoc are you actually Mary poppins?

Haha @FatSealSmugSoup I think it's just that I came up against the rock of DS7's formidable stubbornness and bounced off. He will starve himself rather than eat non acceptable foods. Getting more and more unhappy but not eating. I don't know how long he will go for as I have never had the staying power to find out.

DD2 is I think not quite as bad but it doesn't really get tested as I can't have a different rule for her.

Aria999 · 01/02/2023 16:41

Also DH won't eat it either 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Aria999 · 01/02/2023 17:39

Today I finished booking accommodation for our Florida trip in March (there was a slight wrinkle as we realized we had booked everything for the wrong week and my Airbnb wasn't available the first two nights of the correct week).

But I have found a lovely waterfront villa on the other side of Everglades park for the first two nights so we should be ok.

Also sent out a detailed plan to various people we are trying to see in the summer.

Now need to have lunch, do laundry, and try and fix yet another dodgy toilet (only bought the wretched thing a few months ago 😡)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/02/2023 18:12

@Aria999 no, def not as magical as Mary Poppins...just getting long overdue tasks done. New "big boy" bed arriving Friday for Havoc.
Sounds a bit stressful for you re mealtimes. 😔 Your trip sounds great!

I returned the carpet cleaner by 9am; have had breakfast and fed Havoc; and was going to wipe down the baseboards, wash walls and clean window in Havoc's room before my optometrist appt at noon, but just got a call asking if I'd mind going in for 10:30am, so am going to hustle to get there and save the chores for this afternoon or tonight (I seem to get a lot done in the evening).

Aria999 · 01/02/2023 20:27

I booked the wrong dates again with the new booking 🤦‍♀️

All sorted now though sadly with a less nice place, but I seriously wish I was less incompetent.

AllTheExtraClouds · 02/02/2023 06:27

Morning! Thank you for your concern and apologies for abandoning ship 🐀
I haven't read thread yet but will catch up.
It'll sound like a therapy session if I explain what's been going on. So I won't 😎
Hope you're all well 😘 Love you all and it definitely wasn't you lot ( or the norty boards) that addled my brains.
Have a lovely day everyone 😊

petalpower · 02/02/2023 15:10

Lovely to see you back @AllTheExtraClouds ! Glad it wasn’t us that made you disappear for a bit.
Today has been a bit of a moment as I’ve finally (after 3 years) opened the bottom of the dresser where all my teaching things are stored and have started to throw things out. I know I’ll never go back to teaching now and so much of it is school specific that it probably is no good to anyone else. (Everything was stored electronically on the school cloud so I’m not depriving anyone at that school of resources.) In other news I’ve fixed a photo frame with gorilla tape and taken some old clothes to the clothing bank.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2023 21:41

@petalpower sounds like you're off to a goo start!
I was able to roll up an area rug so it's ready to move to another room; clean the i side of one half of the balcony door; wipe down the tv and cabinet; put a load of laundry in; and move Havoc's dresser back to the bedroom all in 25 mins before leaving for swim class this morning. I believe that's a "while the kettle boils" spree. I have a playpen to put together, but that'll have to wait until Havoc falls asleep for a nap this afternoon (oh, please anytime now) or tonight.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2023 21:45

Did anyone notice the last thread is trending? 🤔
what became of fireworks fluster? Name change?🤔🤔

Peridot1 · 03/02/2023 08:29

Morning all.

feeling a bit fragile after too much wine while out for dinner at some neighbours last night and I have dreadful heartburn. Today might be a slower than normal day.

Good to see you back @AllTheExtraClouds.

@Aria999 - I have a fussy eater too who would rather go hungry than eat stuff he doesn’t like. He’s now 21. It’s definitely sensory with him. He smells things suspiciously and if he doesn’t like the smell he won’t even try it. Also won’t eat things like stews or casseroles. He is getting a bit better at trying things though. We now have a curry he will eat which I never thought would happen.

I did a bit more sorting of my clothes yesterday. More to go to the charity boxes. One more small hanging rail section of the wardrobe to go. Also tidied the spare bedroom and have started putting things in there for my Australia trip. Need to go to Next today to pick up an order. New swimsuit and new denim jacket as needed smaller sizes which is nice. I’m probably too old for a denim jacket really but I do like them.

Have a good day all.

Morning all!

fireworksfluster did indeed namechange to our esteemed @Alltheclouds Smile

I am a big believer in hair of the dog for hangovers @Peridot1

Not alot happening here I am afraid. But I am slightly annoyed- I joined the gym as mentioned and did a terrific legs bums and tums. I have a chronic back problem so have to be careful, but that all went well. Then I did some spinning and that went well. And this morning I swam laps at the pool and THAT went well. Then i got out of the car at Aldi and pulled a muscle in my thigh and I am totally in pain and can't walk properly. Hmm .

But yesterday I spent some time clearing our terrace. I have loads more to do but today I need to rest my pulled muscle I think as tomorrow I am taking the DCs to London and I do want to be able to do that!

I was wondering if there were any lurkers out there as well who might be hesitating to join. Please do if so!! It's a nice thread and I love hearing what everyone is up to.

Hope everyone has a truly wonderful day!

Peridot1 · 03/02/2023 12:08

My hair of the dog cure was copious cups of tea and am now much better thanks @ComeTheSpringLobelia.

It is so typical that you managed the exercise with no issues but a trip to Aldi gets you. Hope it recovers quickly.

Aria999 · 03/02/2023 13:56

Sounds familiar @Peridot1 DS also won't do wet food and has other sensory issues.

Today's job, make DD birthday cake while she is at school. She is 3!

She has quite high expectations of what can be achieved in cake form. I think we have agreed something physically possible...

petalpower · 03/02/2023 16:49

You’re never too old for a denim jacket @Peridot1 - they’re a classic unless you’re going for the double denim look! How lovely to have been out drinking wine on a Thursday night. Hope you’re feeling a bit better now.
It sounds as though you’ve been very active @ComeTheSpringLobelia . Maybe the pulled muscle is telling you to take it easy. I did laugh that it happened in Aldi’s car park though!
Your list of achievements makes me tired just reading
it @Mumtobabyhavoc !
After a couple of meh weeks I’ve really hit my stride today and have achieved lots. I found that in the local village I can take tablet blister packs for recycling by dropping them at the church and that the newsagents will take old glasses (reading not drinking ones) so I dropped some off whilst out to meet a friend for lunch. I also picked up my prescription and combined that with taking back some tablets that are no longer part of my prescription and needed disposing off safely. I’ve thrown out a rug that we were going to give to DS but has been nibbled by moths unfortunately and ‘encouraged’ DH to replace bulbs on two outside lights. One is fixed but the the other seems to have a sensor problem and is now permanently on. Tonight I’m going to see a ballet with another friend which will be lovely. My lunch friend mentioned a website that might buy my teaching books so I’ve had an exciting time (it’s all relative!) scanning the barcodes and seeing if any will be accepted. It’s another step towards sorting out my old teaching resources and freeing up the bottom of the dresser.
