@Alltheclouds - I fly into Sydney initially. Staying with my best friend and then two other friends arrive the following day and we are doing a girls trip to stay 2 hours out of Sydney for five days. No idea what I’m doing for the rest of the four weeks I’m there! Must actually arrange things!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/01/2023 03:29

@Peridot1 oh, I love Australia! In a former life I spent a lot of time there over a two year period. Being in love, time at the beach/learning to surf, wine and lots of lamb on the barbie! Beautiful country and hardy yet kind and warm people. 💖

DressingForRevenge · 19/01/2023 08:03

@Mumtobabyhavoc beef barley soup sounds lovely and I’m sorry to hear about your mum. 😔 We’ve been very lucky in our family so far… unless it’s me? 🤔

@Peridot1 a few days in wine country sounds divine! I want to be envious but the flight is such a killer I promised myself I’d never do it again. 😔

@petalpower as always you put me to shame with your achievements and levels of organisation.

Today I’m taking a black bin liner of clothes to the charity shop. Trying to get rid of all the excess/don’t spark joy/Swedish death clean - although would be far too embarrassed to take them all on one day. So one bag at a time.

Looks like this weekend will be my first child-free since November which is good as it’s my birthday and I can indulge me rather than muttering “in the red corner…”.

I think most of MN need a little more humour in their lives. So many dreadfully earnest types. I’m not a whoopee cushion sort, but my god we need to find the humour in this shit-show called life.

Peridot1 · 19/01/2023 09:23

Morning all. MN is really annoying at the moment. I’ve switched to 25 posts per page as it was so slow and glitchy on long threads but have just discovered you can’t go back a page to check posts mid typing out reply as you lose your reply. So frustrating.

Anyway! Moving on!

sympathies to those of you dealing with relatives with dementia. My mum had Lewy Bodies dementia and it was very hard on everyone.

@DressingForRevenge - I’m very lucky and fly to Australia business class so the flight is actually quite nice! Doing a bit of a more convoluted trip this time to make it a bit cheaper but it’s worth it.

I’m definitely not a surfer @Mumtobabyhavoc but I love walking along the beach and ending up at a cafe with a fab breakfast.

I ended up doing a bit of tidying and sorting in the study yesterday. It’s DH’s domain but is a total mess. I took out a pile of books of mine - all diet and health ones so need to find a home for some and charity shop the rest. Today I’m starting to sort my summer clothes. And going to get my eyebrows tinted. And finally post the returns parcels I’ve been meaning to do for days.

SpiritOfEdna · 19/01/2023 09:54

Morning all, love Australia have lots of friends there so have good memories of a trip there, but my word the flights. Would love to go again, but don’t want to leave the dog for 3 weeks.

my task list for today:

  • Wash some clothes now the dryer is FIXED 👍
  • take before pictures of the yard before I do too much more clearing out
  • Then continue emptying and cleaning out yard.
  • fix the edging for the art table.

Have a good day.

SoE

Hello everyone! @Mumtobabyhavoc sorry to hear about your mum. It's very hard. @Peridot1 Lewey Body is awful - I was involved in the care of somebody with that and totally agree how hard it it is on everyone.

I have 25 to a page too and that's sometimes why my posts come in fits and starts, or miss things so apologies for that.

I sometimes wonder where humour has gone too @DressingForRevenge I love yours - you are so quick. I often come across as very serious but my humour is very dry and quite happy to use it against myself too. Sometimes gets me misunderstood so I have to be careful when I'm with people who are very literal.

Today I'm very grateful for people. Love the ones close to me and my line manager in particular today. There has been a lot of mutual support.

Delighted to hear your tumble dryer has been fixed @SpiritOfEdna ! You have given me inspiration for outside too, now I'm no longer lame 😊

You're all selling Australia to me very well! But, spiders..... I nearly went to Sydney when one of my family lived there but they came back while I was still saving up! I hope you have a wonderful time @Peridot1

Ooh a child free birthday @DressingForRevenge! I hope you have some fun planned! 🎂 🎈 🎉 🥂
I met the current MrClouds on my first child free weekend.....(I didn't get one for a good 18 months) Kissed a couple of frogs in the meantime and got embroiled in a somewhat unsuitable fling in between husbands though 😂

Blue sky and sunshine here. Feeling inclined to briefly come out of hibernation and do something about my patio.

Thoughts to everyone with relatives with dementia or those who had it. It’s such a dreadful disease.
Glad your line manager has been a superstar today @Alltheclouds and others around you. It makes such a difference doesn’t it.
Honestly @DressingForRevenge there’s really not much to be impressed by here. Remember I don’t have a job now and my children are fairly grown up!
As someone upthread said if I go back to look at what everyone has been doing so I can reply to I lose the post I’m writing so apologies if I’m ignoring what anyone has said.
DH is very keen on going to Australia @Peridot1 (he’s been before) but I’m not keen on the scary and bitey animals!
Great news that your drier is fixed @SpiritOfEdna . Always good when something can be fixed both from an eco and financial perspective!
Today I’ve looked at the info from the accountant for tax returns, tried to sort out a water bill for auntie’s old house (covering April to December 2021 - surely that’s not right), menu planned and added to online supermarket order and popped to greengrocers and butchers. Tonight is my weekly music group which will be fun but it’s so cold I’m not looking forward to going out!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 19/01/2023 18:34

Loads of Australian love here too Chez Lobelia. Although I do not know Sydney at all. Worst bite I ever got from an animal in Oz was from a Shetland!!.

In other news, I have joined a choir. I am not sure why but coffee and biscuits and very nice people featured.

So pleased your line manager was supportive @Alltheclouds .

Thanks to everyone facing worries about loved ones.

Today I went to B&Q for paint for bedroom touchups. The ensuing conversation went roughly like this;

Me calling DH on the phone;

Me - 'Hi. I am at B&Q. Is there anything you want?'
DH- 'No, thanks'. [rings off]
DH rings back; 'WHY are you at B&Q?'
Me (browsing paint aisles]; 'I'm not telling you why. You will only try and stop me, and I am ignoring you on the subject'. [rings off]
Me rings back; 'Hi. What colour is DS1's bedroom?'
DH; ' Yellow'
Me; 'I KNOW it is yellow. What is the actual colour called?'
DH; 'I can't recall, but if you are doing touchups, i have a spare paint pot in the garage'.
Me; 'Hmph'. [rings off]
Me calling; 'Hi again- Right I am on my way home see you soon'.

Aria999 · 19/01/2023 18:56

Lol @SnowAndIceLobelia re touch ups.

I found a spare paint pot in the garage left to us by the previous owners and touched up the downstairs loo recently. The first one blended in perfectly. The other two are the wrong color. On closer inspection it appears that one wall is a subtly different but clearly distinct shade of peach from the other two, who does that?

You can't really tell because of the lighting. Until you try to touch it up with the wrong paint.

Aria999 · 19/01/2023 18:58

Sorry to hear about the dementia @petalpower , @Mumtobabyhavoc

Old age sucks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2023 00:42

Thanks for the kind words lovelies. I wanted to show support for petal and see I @'d the wrong petal. 🤦‍♀️
I'm in emerg at my local hospital; nothing too serious, but it's a uti/bladder infection. So, that's my excuse for not getting any chores done today.... 🤷‍♀️
(Oh! I hear the doctor with the patient before me!!! Hoping I'm next!!! 🤞)

Alltheclouds · 20/01/2023 06:46

Oh nooooo @Mumtobabyhavoc I hope you are safely at home with drugs 💕 And feeling better!
It always amazes me how many different shades of a colour there are when it comes to paint @Aria999 We once foolishly got a paint mixed for us at B&Q just so it was the perfect shade for a child's bedroom. Only realise afterwards how expensive that is. And difficult for later touch ups 🙈

Your exchange made me laugh @SnowAndIceLobelia I imagine he thought it perfectly reasonable for you not to know it was yellow! If any of my folks went missing I'd be hard pushed to tell anyone what they'd been wearing. Look at you and @petalpower go with choir and music group!
I'm meeting a friend for lunch today. I have some places in the house where clutter has bred so I need to get on to that first. And I must do something about the state of my car! Feeling somewhat overwhelmed by life so i think all that will do me good.

Happy Friday everyone!

Peridot1 · 20/01/2023 09:52

Morning all!

hope you got sorted @Mumtobabyhavoc. UTIs are the pits. I went through a stage of getting them very regularly but they seem to have subsided now.

I would love to join a choir @SnowAndIceLobelia. But unfortunately I am tone deaf.

@petalpower I have been to Australia about ten times now and have never seen a nasty anything. Other than cockroaches . Which I hate. But was semi used to them from Asia.

@SpiritOfEdna - I am leaving dog, husband and son for four weeks and I cannot wait! Grin

Hope you have a great child free birthday weekend @DressingForRevenge. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t!

Yesterday I changed my bed, and started the sort out of my summer clothes with a trying on session. Am being ruthless with things that are too big now. It’s so nice to be fitting into smaller sizes though. I seem to have bought quite a lot of ‘aspirational’ clothes so I found quite a few items still with tags in in smaller sizes that now fit. So it feels like I’ve had a lovely shopping trip!

I also did an impromptu jewellery sort out. Left a bracelet in for repair last week and it’s now ready and I noticed they buy old jewellery so I’ve sorted out a lot of gold that I don’t wear any more to sell. Have some costume jewellery for the charity shop too. My bedroom is now a mess of little piles everywhere though!

Today I will go to jewellers and then take a couple of sale purchase back to M&S and take a jacket that DS bought online from Next back to have the security tag removed. That might be it today.

Have a good day all.

petalpower · 20/01/2023 16:37

Hope you had a lovely lunch with your friend @Alltheclouds . I met a friend for a cup of tea this morning which really did me good.
Thank you for your support @Mumtobabyhavoc - I knew you meant me! Hope you’re full of lovely painkillers and antibiotics and starting to feel better.
@Peridot1 you’ve been so busy with your sort out. Impressive stuff!
Hope everyone else is ok.
Today I’ve taken two jumpers back to M and S (too small Christmas presents for DS), dropped off some advertising posters for my music group, paid in a cheque at the bank old style as I didn’t trust the app and caught up with a lovely friend. Also filled my car up with diesel as we have a slightly complicated situation with DS. His car started to do peculiar things on his way back to us last night (he lives about 2.5 hours away) and now needs garage attention. They can’t do it until next week so he’s got to borrow my car to get back home and go to work and I need to use the fairly ancient and rickety car that he and our daughter used as learners. After working from home for weeks DH is away next week so no chance of me using his car. First world problems I know but a hassle nevertheless. Also checked and filed auntie’s tax return and paid the accountant and money owed to HMRC.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2023 17:58

Good morning all 😊
Yes, so much better! Was given first dose antibiotics at hospital and two doses to take home in case I couldn't get to pharmacy right away, or in case pharmacy didn't have the meds in stock. Worked very fast as approx 90 mins later horr filled script right away also, so all is good and I am well. Quite impressed with my local hospital. Was checked in and triaged at 2:55pm and walking out at 5:25pm.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2023 18:00

Phone posted before I finished correcting typos etc. 🤦‍♀️

Aria999 · 20/01/2023 23:40

That's good news @Mumtobabyhavoc !

UTIs are awful, I went through a phase of getting them all the time.

Alltheclouds · 21/01/2023 08:04

Glad you're feeling better @Mumtobabyhavoc!

Your post made me smile @petalpower as our lives sound similar in so many ways! Down to not trusting apps to pay in cheques. My mum (who doesn't have internet banking) gives them to me if she wants to give money to the grandchildren ( who do all their banking online, have never had a cheque book and don't even have high street banks) We also play musical cars from time to time!

I've been feeling the January blues a little, and meeting with my friend and having a rant and a giggle was very therapeutic, as I've known her since we were primary school mums and we've been through similar ups and downs.

@Peridot1 how lovely that you have all those 'new' clothes! What a great feeling!

I need to do a tip run today. And clear my car because it didn't get done!

Peridot1 · 21/01/2023 08:25

Morning all.

glad you are on the mend @Aria999.

I ended up not going out at all yesterday so those jobs didn’t get done. Felt sniffly, and sneezy and snotty and tired. Not sure if it’s a cold or allergies. Did some more sorting of clothes though. And my mini tidy in the study during the week has inspired DH so he has been tidying in there a bit and he brought me a folder of things from our old house to sort. So that’s all gone. Fabric samples and wallpaper samples etc. Not sure why we still had it all but I suppose that is true of so much we hang on to!

Today I’m planning on more clothes sorting and washing. Bagging up the ones for charity. And the other little piles that are lying about. And putting my jewellery away. Also need to change a bed. And we have friends coming for dinner so a tidy up and vacuum. Might try to brush the dog too. She is looking a bit shaggy.

have a good day all.

petalpower · 21/01/2023 09:10

That was quick service @Mumtobabyhavoc - are you in the UK? I know someone is in the USA but can’t remember if it’s you!
Hope you’re feeling better from the snotty sniffles @Peridot1 . This horrible cold and flu bug that’s been going round has been awful. My stepmother has had it for 3 weeks now and is now on antibiotics as it seems to have turned into a chest infection.
Yes I often think we sound quite similar @Alltheclouds !
Have a good day everyone.

DressingForRevenge · 21/01/2023 09:58

I think we’ve actually got TWO Americans (aria and baby havoc)!

@Mumtobabyhavoc im glad the drugs have kicked in quickly - for reference @Alltheclouds is a huge supporter of drugs and if ever in doubt, a rifle through her bathroom cabinet could cure any of us. 😉

@Peridot1 youve never met a nasty in Oz? 😲 Have you never experienced “Queensland male”? 😉

Alas no quiet weekend for me. Child came down with lurgy so has opted for mum instead.

there are others @SnowAndIceLobelia and @petalpower i want to reply to but mn is so glitchy right now if I scroll up the page will refresh and all pearls of wisdom vanish.

but I hope you are doing well.

today I need to do some stuff for my freelance work as my “actual job” contract finishes soon and my biggest client is leaving me I think. They’ve made requests/steps in the last week. 50% of me is annoyed, 50% delighted as I wanted to “fire” them anyway - it’s a delicate situation and all I can say is don’t work with friends!

Aria999 · 21/01/2023 12:42

The havoc family is in Canada as I recall.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 21/01/2023 14:14

Hi everyone.

I am about to have another namechange I think. I start to get 'the itch'.

Today I have cleared the area where we keep the bins. I disturnbd a large toad who was unimpressed with me. Tomorrow I wish to paint some of the pots that have lost their shine; buy some more ferns (as the area is dark and dank and I have had success with ferns in a dark area elsewhere); and then review the pots we do have and see what can be re-potted and repositioned.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 21/01/2023 14:16

[twirls]

😝

Aria999 · 21/01/2023 14:27

Tadaa! @ComeTheSpringLobelia at least so far you are consistently some type of lobelia!

Was it you who was deciding what to grow on a brick wall? What did you go for?
