Ooh it's letting me add photos again.

DD birthday cake took all day but I am happy with the result. Didn't eat lunch till 3:30.

(If I wasn't outed before I will be now lol).

Daily Project Round 3
Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/02/2023 22:28

@Aria999 well done! 😋

petalpower · 04/02/2023 09:04

That’s a very impressive cake @Aria999 . Hope your DD loved it!

FatSealSmugSoup · 04/02/2023 10:37

@Aria999 that’s very impressive! Mine get a Victoria sponge and they like it!

@petalpower who knows re turfing stuff out? We’ve got a client at work right now who’s got people trawling through minds/long-forgotten paperwork due to an incident pre-digital. Of course it’s come through a month after a giant incineration. 😂

I’ve spent the week trying to buy furniture. TWICE the money was taken from my account but the order didn’t go through. I got refunds - but it’s frustrating nonetheless. Tried again this morning and it’s refusing to accept my card. So had to transfer the cash to another account to pay. I hate doing that as it messes up the in/out figures. This order has finally gone through - 7th attempt?

I’ve got my first solo weekend in what feels like a million years, so I’m trying to assemble a bathroom storage thingummy, get some freelance work sorted out and rescue the poor robot hoover who’s swallowed someone’s fair isle knitting. Now I’m really impressed because I can’t knit and he’s only 10 and doing fair isle… but does it HAVE to be left under the couch for the poor eufy to have a near-death experience with?

RunningKatie · 04/02/2023 11:57

That is one awesome cake @Aria999
I too have a dd birthday this weekend, mine is 12 and wants a specific cake from Asda, fingers crossed they have one when i go!
This week has been busy, and obviously birthday weekends whizz by but am hoping to get some sorting done. The whole house needs a really good hoover, the new stairs carpet shows every dog hair. Tempted to get rid of the dog but that would not go down well as a suggestion, so dh needs to hoover the stairs!

Aria999 · 04/02/2023 14:50

😂 @FatSealSmugSoup hope the poor Hoover recovers! Was the knitting also destroyed?

Aria999 · 04/02/2023 14:54

Thanks all, DD liked it aesthetically but only ate the icing 😂 which was a pity as the actual cake came out quite well.

Also it was rainbow on the inside as per DD specifications and she seemed totally unbothered by that part!

It is just possible I am a mug.

Peridot1 · 04/02/2023 15:56

@petalpower - I agree and no I won’t be doing double denim! I think denim jackets are a classic now really.

fab cake @Aria999. Must have taken ages especially as it was rainbow inside. And aren’t the little darlings so wonderfully appreciative?!

@FatSealSmugSoup - hope the Eufy recovers.

@RunningKatie - I threaten to get rid of the dog too due to the hair. But I love her really. Thankfully she doesn’t go upstairs so the hair is only downstairs.

I finally went to Next to pick up my parcel. Had a lovely coffee and a slice of carrot cake in M&S first and a potter about and then made it to Next and got hit by a migraine aura as I was walking out of the shop. Made it home and straight to bed for a few hours. No idea where that came from. I don’t think I’ve had one for about 6/7 years.

Had a row with my sister yesterday and she is our resident migraine sufferer and gets them a lot. I’m wondering if she cursed me? Wouldn’t put it past her!

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 04/02/2023 17:53

Hello all!

I was most impressed with the cake, @Aria999 . It looked terrific. The closest I have ever got to making a cake is mussing up the icing and putting some maltesers onto a shop bought cake!

So sorry about the robot hoover @FatSealSmugSoup . Hope it is better soon! I'd love one, but this is how I imagine it would go in my house.....

Day trip to London today and it was pretty awesome. Just doing something different is really good for me. 2 hour trip each way for a 45 minute power walk around the National Gallery (The Dcs get museum fatigue) and then a slow and lazy lunch at a pizza place. All good. I tell myself that they might not appreciate it now, but they will look back and be glad they did the things arty when they are older.... Grin

But I really enjoyed it. The various religious paintings received some interest due to their mostly bloody nature and there was a picture of a cat in another painting that was commented on. But other than that I think it left them cold. I was in best encouraging mummy mode - 'look! A famous painting!! And look here!!! Another famous painting!!!!'.

Hope everyone has a great evening. Thanks

Aria999 · 04/02/2023 20:58

😂 @ComeTheSpringLobelia. I remember being that way about galleries too. It's much more fun as a grownup when you can choose what to see and how long to stay (I love museums and galleries now but still prefer to do them in relatively sharp bursts).

Aria999 · 04/02/2023 21:03

P.s. where do you live? We used to live in Oxford which is about 2 hours each way to London too!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2023 22:44

Hello. 😊 I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
I'm still working on finishing Havoc's bedroom. Wiped baseboards and mattress arrived yesterday. Have re-packed a few boxes of clothes that no longer fit; will need to purge the dresser soon. So, some boxes back to Havoc's closet and some to another closet. Need to unpack 4 boxes of Christmas decorations, organize and purge before putting those boxes away. Will do that tonight when havoc is asleep. Have been looking at purchasing a steam cleaner - and I'm kind of obsessed about it. 🤷‍♀️

AllTheExtraClouds · 05/02/2023 15:06

Afternoon all! Beautiful day in the south east :)
I've done silly hours at work this week but two days off now and catching up on sleep/happy valley/ cat cuddling and house work.
Put car theough wash yesterday so counting that as a win!
Sounds like you've all been very busy! That video made me laugh @ComeTheSpringLobelia

petalpower · 05/02/2023 21:39

Beautiful here too @AllTheExtraClouds .
Lots of culture here this weekend. Ballet and orchestra concert. Also taken care home auntie out for lunch which was lovely. She’s very frail now but enjoyed the outing.
Making progress sorting out old teaching books and DVDs and hope to get them ready to sell in the next couple of days. Today I’ve put out my seed potatoes to chit on egg boxes and have sorted my weeks worth of tablets but it much else. Hope you’ve all had a good weekend and have achieved lots!

AllTheExtraClouds · 06/02/2023 07:50

Morning! Pleased to hear you had a lovely weekend @petalpower
We've woken up to a pretty frost here this morning. I have some smug cooking to do, which has been sadly lacking in this house recently. And some plants to re pot.
I've been catching up here and you've all been very busy!
Hope your head is better @Peridot1 Sorry about the row with your sister - families can be very stressful sometimes!
Your cake is amazing @Aria999 😍
I'm trying to work out what happened to @FatSealSmugSoups robot and knitting but I shall lose the post! @Mumtobabyhavoc you are on a roll!!!

FatSealSmugSoup · 06/02/2023 08:45

Well because I am a fucking atrocious parent with very little patience - I cut the thread to free him. 😳 He’ll never notice because he never actually finishes a project - just hands me 4” of knitting. I suppose I should sew them all together to make “something” eventually.

I had a very quiet weekend. Sorted the kitchen and bathroom putting lots of stuff in the bin or for the shed. In theory I could’ve done a lot more but I didn’t want to overdo it.

I did an extraordinary amount of online shopping which will arrive in dribs and drabs over the next few weeks. Buying furniture here is a real bind - local prices are £££ and I can’t fit it into my car anyway. Couriers can charge hundreds on top of the purchase price - so I needed a quiet weekend to get it all done without people jibbering at me.

im glad you’re back with us @AllTheExtraClouds - we’ve missed you.

@Peridot1 my youngest was asking about Marian Keyes last week so I was explaining your family/the Walsh sisters.

do any of you keep chickens? I’m planning out my chicken run and will be getting eggs to incubate soon. I’m wondering if this is a good idea because upon reflection I think the cat will also like this idea…

petalpower · 06/02/2023 16:58

No chickens here @FatSealSmugSoup . Your weekend sounds good.
Sounds like everyone is busy on here.
Great to see you back @AllTheExtraClouds . How has your cooking and re-potting gone?
I’m on an absolute roll with the bottom of the dresser and getting rid of my teaching resources. I’ve parcelled up 5 boxes of books to sell on We Buy Books which should result in about £60. An absolute fraction of what I paid for them but at least they’re out the house and will hopefully benefit someone else. They’re being picked up tomorrow. I can’t remember if I said that I have a friend who works at a charity shop and she has offered to take in anything else I want to get rid of. So today I’ve washed and bagged up all the old beach toys and buckets and spades which were still in the garage (not much bucket and spade action when they’re 20 and 22!) and some old Easter decorations.

AllTheExtraClouds · 07/02/2023 06:28

Hello! @FatSealSmugSoup we had chickens for a bit. They were ex battery hens and we didn'thave cats at the time. Our dog made friends with them 💕 They pottered about in our garden all day and had a lovely time. One did keep escaping though, so we moved them to the place where the horse lived and they had a great time with their flock and a handsome cockerel, until a fox got the lot 😔
@petalpower thank you, yes I did get a bit done yesterday, but not as much as you! I'm impressed. You may want to hang on to the bucket and spade....give it another 10 years or so and they might be less 'cool' and be happy to hang out with mum and do childhood things again. Mine have been up for it since my son came to visit in the summer and we've had a lot of fun doing daft things.

Hope the job is going well @RunningKatie and that the office has warmed up a bit! You are not dumpy and old you are in your prime! I do find it strange having colleagues who are senior to me but younger than my children though, so I hear you!

Back to the point of the thread though, I must clean out the inside of my car today so it matches the gleaming outside. And change our bedding.

Have a lovely day everyone 😘

FatSealSmugSoup · 07/02/2023 07:13

@petalpower well done for sorting out the books AND getting paid for them - albeit a low price. I only ditched my uni text books in the last house move. Carried that shit around for 25 years - maybe I could’ve sold them as antiques? 😂 One actually from the US arm of Amazon before they started here.

@AllTheExtraClouds No foxes here but we do have predatory otters. I’m planning on a fairly elaborate enclosed run and sensor door because with the light here, I can’t be doing it all.

neighbours have got chickens and the cat isn’t interested in those - but I fear a cardboard box under a heat lamp in the kitchen might just prove irresistible to the moggy. Although tbf, she still doesn’t appear to have twigged there are fish in the house…

I was on parent duty last night ferrying kids to another island for a sports competition. We missed our ferry home, so swung by the chippy for the team and all sat in the waiting room getting stuck in. Actually more fun than it sounds - I’m sure @petalpower has the odd fond memory too!

Today I’ve got to take my eldest to the “big town” for some autism stuff. This will prove “trying” emotionally for all involved.

… then I will crack open a bottle of red. For my health.

Peridot1 · 07/02/2023 08:20

Morning all.

You have all been very busy by the sounds of things.

I’m not sure it’s as entertaining as the Walsh sisters @FatSealSmugSoup. There is always drama and it’s always one in particular. It will blow up again before we are done settling Dad’s estate I’m sure.

I didn’t get much done yesterday as I got my hair done so was out for quite a while. I did sort my visa for Australia. We also realised we didn’t sort Dad’s tax out after he died so need to do that which I’m dreading as I’ve no idea where the information is. Can’t settle the estate until it’s done. So need to call them this morning and see what to do.

I also need to phone jewellers. I took some stuff in to be valued to sell and they called last week with a surprisingly nice figure. If any of you have any old gold lying around even broken bits it’s worth taking in to somewhere to see what it’s worth as the price of gold is very high at the moment.

I am off out this morning to pick up my new glasses and have lenses switched in my sunglasses. Planning a nice coffee and my book whilst it’s done.

have a great day all.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 07/02/2023 18:30

Hi all- just checking in so I do not lose the thread.

Thanks for the info about jewellers, @Peridot1 . i have alot of jewellery I wish to sell.

No chickens here @FatSealSmugSoup . I am fairly urban, despite being in a rural-ish area. (Much further south than Oxford I am afraid @Aria999 !). In our deeds (which I was looking at lately due to our attempts to get the council tax re-banded) it says we must not keep 'fowl' of any sort. I mentioned this with some chagrin to a colleague who shrugged and said ; 'Who is going to care, really?'. Um- my colleague is the Head of our Conveyancing Department in our law firm. So in theory he ought to care Hmm Grin

Besides, sods law would say our neighbour would care. I mentioned ages back our neighbour got aggressive because one of our trees had leaves blown (in the wind) in their garden. Well, this week's little delight was they reported us to environmental health for feeding birds in our very own garden.

It's an unwelcome irritation and as we share a party wall I worry about what is coming next from someone who clearly has something against us. No idea what as we are quiet (go to bed circa 9 pm!) and respectful and polite. We take in parcels and keep an eye out on their house at their request when they go on holiday. But never mind.

I am wishing so much that my dreams of living in the middle of nowhere somewhere north where there is snow, wifi, a pub and no neighbours could come to fruition. Grin. I dream of neighbours who are seals, and days making soup. Sigh.

Hope everyone is having a lovely evening. Thanks.

petalpower · 08/02/2023 11:06

Today I’ve been sorting out things that seem to have ended up in our house that don’t belong to us and need returning. We’re seeing quite a few friends and family over the next couple of weeks so I’ve sorted out a pile of things to take to my dad and stepmother’s ( birthday present and book for MIL, exchanged Christmas jumper for my dad, returned book for dad and jigsaw for stepmother), a pile of bits for my neighbour (returned plastic tub, USB with photos they took and empty jam jars), also family photo album to take to DH cousin at the weekend, UCAS personal statement book to drop at friend’s as her son the the right age and a book to return to a friend when I see her next week.
It’s a beautiful frosty day here today. Even my hair and the dog’s tail and eyebrows were frosty when we got back from our walk earlier!
Right - off to make some smug soup!

SpiritOfEdna · 08/02/2023 15:24

hello, busy and productive days all round! Only just recovering from having the Niece stay at the weekend. Work is very busy at the moment, but having just come up for air, thought I would do a nice to do list of little things for today

  • wash swimming kit and work out when I can go and practise. It's my last swimming lesson next week so I want to make sure I have got everything out of it that I need
  • I'm looking at a very dusty and untidy desk, so must sort that out
  • New resolve for diet has arrived out of nowhere so will get some photos done whilst I am in the mood :-)
  • I need another 4K steps in, so that will be The Hound out later
  • Need to top up the money box today

That'll do :-)

SoE

RunningKatie · 08/02/2023 18:19

Youngest dc is under the weather this week, there are so many germs floating around school - roll on half term!
Our pavements are being dug up currently for fibre to be installed. The bonkers neighbour up the road, who hoovers his drive incidentally, has washed the pavement outside his house so it glistens whilst every other pavement looks like a mud fest.
He is clearly a man who gets stuff done that the rest of us only dream of! 😁

petalpower · 10/02/2023 08:30

It’s very quiet round these parts at the moment. Hope everyone is ok?
I’m still making progress with clearing my cupboard of teaching resources. Another box of books is being picked up today and I’ve used the money I’ve made from selling them to buy a dress for our niece’s wedding.
