Just that really! I'm sat here watching Supermarket Sweep and realised that I don't know anyone who has been on a game show! Have you or someone been on one and if so, did you win anything!?

Yes, a colleague of mine was on The Chase (he did not beat the chaser!)

Not a game show, but another colleague was on Don't Tell the Bride and it was awful, I felt so sorry for her watching it. Her husband bought her a cheap dress off eBay. They are divorced now.

Excitedannie · 02/01/2023 09:26

OMG!!! I occasionally watch that and wonder if it's real??? And why don't they give their husband to be really strict rules of what the dress should be like!!!

Ooh yes - let's bring reality into this!!

My DH many moons ago was on American Blind Date (he didn't get picked)

Yeah, me. Five.

A work colleague was on Pointless about 10 years ago. She went on about it for months and still makes references to it on her social media.

icanwearwhatiwant · 02/01/2023 09:39

And why don't they give their husband to be really strict rules of what the dress should be like!!!

I've often wondered why they haven't sat down and talked about the wedding before the show starts. The honest answer, I guess, is that it wouldn't make good tv and the producers push them hard on the direction of bad choices and whacky weddings to make an exciting program.

One of my relatives was on a game show in the 1980s called- I think- Brainstorm. She didn't win, we still have the video of her competing.

Another relative was on Mastermind. He didn't win either

My son was in China and he won the top prize which was a trip to the UK. In reality he got the cash equivalent. We were in the audience and the set was surprisingly small.

jumanji100 · 02/01/2023 09:41

Had a friend on 'only connect' and 'mastermind'... She is very clever!

icanwearwhatiwant · 02/01/2023 09:41

I have a work colleague who was on deal or no deal and won about £30000 with it. She used it as a deposit for a house.

Someone at work told me about the time she went on a game show with her kids when they were young (they’re in their 30’s now, I believe). They smashed it and apparently did way better than the opponents winning bikes and a hot air balloon ride etc.

She’s the only person I can think of though.

HowdyDudey · 02/01/2023 09:42

A friend’s husband was on Deal or no Deal. He had a wonderful time and won a few grand.

Upfartooearly · 02/01/2023 09:45

I saw a boy I had a crush on at school on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire a few years ago. He won £32k.

A colleague was on Blockbusters when he was younger.

Ex’s best friend was on Mastermind and got through to second round.

B1993 · 02/01/2023 09:48

And why don't they give their husband to be really strict rules of what the dress should be like!!!

I’m certain that they do, but the show’s producers choose couples that have different expectations for a reason - good telly. I’ve seen grooms admit before that, since they get to plan the wedding and are taking on ‘all the stress’, that it’s their way or nothing…

Some grooms obviously put more thought into it but I’ve also seen men choose a dress they KNOW their OH wouldn’t like because they’d rather see them in something they like (often more revealing). 🤷🏻‍♀️

TwigsAndPebblyShit · 02/01/2023 09:51

Someone I was at Uni with was on Supermarket Sweep (the original one with Dale Winton).

She did quite badly.

JaninaDuszejko · 02/01/2023 09:51

I have a work colleague who was on Eggheads and another who won on another quiz show that was really big at the time but I can't remember the name now. They played in teams and had to bet money on how confident they were that they had the right answer. I also was at school with a winner of Big Brother.

Babdoc · 02/01/2023 09:54

I was on Crackerjack in 1968! All I won was a Crackerjack propelling pencil, which I lost when moving house to go to medical school in 1975.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/01/2023 09:54

A friend of mine was on University Challenge in the days if Bamber Gasgoine. And some of the girls from
Another ward at work were on one, and almost won. But can't remember what it was called.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 02/01/2023 09:56

I know people who’ve been on University Challenge, Blockbuster, Mastermind and Only Connect.

cluele · 02/01/2023 09:58

A colleague was in the winning team on only connect a few years back.

Excitedannie · 02/01/2023 09:59

BLOCKBUSTERS!!! Ahhh you've just reminded me of that!! The theme tune reminds me of doing homework in the 80's, in a living room full of brown and orange!!!!!

itbemay · 02/01/2023 10:01

Yes a friend was on family fortunes. They won.

ClannadSinger · 02/01/2023 10:02

Oh and another one of my husbands work colleagues was on Don't Forget your Toothbrush years and years ago. She won all the prizes but offered her cash alternative which she took
