Do you know anyone who has been on a game show?!

Just that really! I'm sat here watching Supermarket Sweep and realised that I don't know anyone who has been on a game show! Have you or someone been on one and if so, did you win anything!?

I know someone who was on Countdown and a work colleague was on something as well, might have been Who wants to be a Millionaire or the Weakest Link but I can't remember what programme it was now as it was a long time ago.

Also girls from my school were on something called Masterteams (not me, I only ever made it onto local radio quiz shows at school).

And possibly Blockbusters too but again I can't quite remember.

Mark on The Chase is really nice off camera. Bradley Walsh is too. Both chatty.

Someone I went to school with was recently on a game show but I can’t remember which one as I don’t usually watch them. My old geography teacher’s husband won the million on who wants to be a millionaire in the early 2000s and someone else I went to school with was on The Apprentice although that’s not really a game show.

@Icequeen01

Yes, so was I! She left our work a few years ago, nice girl, only in her early 20s - pleased she got a good start in life

It must be the same person. Does her name start with an L?

AWaferThinMint · 02/01/2023 17:21

I was on one! Perfection with Nick Knowles. I did not win!

ivfbabymomma1 · 02/01/2023 17:23

My dh was on deal or no deal in 2010

Elderflower14 · 02/01/2023 17:31

I've been on 15 to 1 and Whatever You Want...
Didn't win either....

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 02/01/2023 17:38

Younger brother and wife were on Pointless but didn't win, despite adding to the prize fund. If they'd been questioned in a different order they'd have got to the final and won.

I've been on The Chase. I'd like to say that I was brave enough to go for the higher offer and won but that would be a big fib. However, I got to the final round. I applied for WWTBAM and am wondering if they'll call back. The odds are very much against it as I've heard they get around 65,000 applications but one lives in hope.

Someone at school was on Ask the family many years ago

Wtafis · 02/01/2023 17:44

DH was on Debatable
he had Christopher Buggins, Nigel Havers and Konnie Huq to help him.

A friend of my father is a walking reference library and always seems to know the answer to something I am puzzled over. It must have been 20 or so years ago that he appeared on El rival más débil, the Spanish version of The Weakest Link.

He thought he would fail to progress due to weaknesses in his knowledge of more popular culture, but sailed though to almost the end. His brain freeze over something he should have known (and no doubt did know) was his downfall and still gets mentioned after all these years.

Downtherefordancing · 02/01/2023 18:13

Does Cheggers Plays Pop count??
If so … then I was on that in a previous life 😁

Kevinyoutwat · 02/01/2023 18:55

My mums friend years ago.

She got pissed after the recording, repeatedly tried to snog Shane Ritchie and got escorted out the building.

She used to throw things at the telly when he was on Eastenders years later. She held a grudge, that one.

Has anyone said Bullseye yet?
Can you imagine winning on there, living in a landlocked area and winning the sodding speedboat!!!

Daphne from Eggheads was on Bullseye - and also 15 to 1.

This man also found appearing on Bullseye life-changing, but not (to him) in a positive way:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cooper_(serial_killer)

It did seem a bit mad, didn't it? Speedboats are quite specialist things, as are caravans - as you have to have the desire (they aren't for everybody), a big enough car to tow it and somewhere to store it. At least a car was a relatively safe bet for most people.

Most of the contestants weren't actually couples, I'd say; I did often wonder how two mates from down the pub would split a fitted kitchen!

Pinkbananas01 · 02/01/2023 19:13

DSis partner , also a friend & her daughter - all seperately on pointless & all won

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/01/2023 22:29

3-2-1, now there was a quiz. If they did a modern version, the loser would win recycling boxes and not a bin.

piedbeauty · 02/01/2023 22:30

Yup. Friend was on Millionaire and won 125K!

DesteB · 02/01/2023 23:15

A boy from my sons class at school won Mastermind and another won BBC young musician of the year.

FrangipaniBlue · 02/01/2023 23:23

I know someone who was on Come Dine With Me and a work colleague was on the Weakest Link.

Another work colleague is currently going through the audition process for countdown.

Excitedannie · 03/01/2023 07:12

Wow so that's where they've all been hiding! I feel cheated that don't know of anyone!!!!!!!

You definitely do get the same people turning on on multiple game shows. It isn't the kind of thing that most people ever even think of doing, to apply to go on one; plus you need confidence and 'watchability' to subsequently be chosen.

Once you've breached those 'barriers', the idea of winning a lot of money and/or great prizes is obviously enticing, so why wouldn't you then apply to go on more shows?

Somebody I did my nurse t raining with and subsequently worked with ,parents were on 3-2-1, he had the dusty, bin, mascot thing they were given in his room when we lived in student accommodation😂
I knew someone who was in blockbusters, she was very clever ,went to Oxford but only. Won £15 .

ferneytorro · 03/01/2023 10:23

Yes. A friend was on pointless, a colleague was on eggheads and someone I went to sixth form with was on blockbusters. Husband had a colleague many years ago who was on bullseye.

I have a friend who appeared on Deal or No Deal in late 2006, they were on the show when the first £250k winner was on the wings.
They won £45k themselves and they put it towards a deposit for a house which it seems most people did - so many different people from different walks of life on that show.
I went to see it recorded in the studio, was filmed at Paintworks in Bristol back then, from the outside it looks derelict and it is much smaller in real life than on TV! Noel was ace though!

I LOVE Noel Edmonds. Kind of in a fascinated way.

DOND was great!
