Yes it was, in 1999, 1st £1m quiz show winner. I don't think she went on weakest link also, did he do that competition more than once? I may have completely forgotten that though if she did go on WL.
Ah, interesting! No, they never repeated the £1m competition on Virgin Radio. I'm certain it was her on WL - first name beginning with C and surname the same as a place in Hertfordshire.
I remember thinking that, had the general public known what she looked like and/or her full name (they never gave their surnames on WL), there would probably have been panto villain-style accusations of greed. As it happened, the plan was for the winner to be taken straight to This Morning/Richard & Judy or whatever the ITV breakfast show was back then for a big 'my dreams have all just come true!' feature - there was a posh car waiting in Golden Square to whisk the winner away - but it hugely overran (I suppose it was all new to them, too, so they didn't know how long it would all last) and the breakfast TV had long finished by the time it was all over!
It got down to a very lengthy stand-off between her and the man from NI who eventually lost to her, with nobody getting any of the 50/50-choice questions wrong. I vaguely recall that one of the pivotal questions was something like "Which of these famous writers was a woman: George Eliot or George Orwell?".
I've still got the whole thing recorded on some old cassette tapes somewhere - no idea where, though!
