I think the government will have a serious problem finding an airline to run Rwanda deportations

Maybe they’ll then try and get the RAF to do it? Plays well to the we’re-being-invaded mob too. Obviously would be a complete misuse of defence forces but it wouldn’t surprise me.

pointythings · 26/12/2022 10:59

@Roussette that's one of mine - I have four, all rescues. He just happened to be cute and grumpy among my sustainably wrapped presents (we use and re-use fabric). He's the most peoply of my cats and had a very rough start to life, probably the worst of the four, so I'm his comfort human.

Roussette · 26/12/2022 15:58

He looks a little sweetie pointy very cute.

Oh hell, I hope not.

That would be the worst type of optics imaginable.

Chatting to my Telegraph reading Dad and he complained that the Telegraph hates the Government and Sunak and never print anything positive. (I was chopping vegetables so I stayed quiet- season of goodwill etc).

But lo and behold -

In the year ahead, the former prime minister is set to push his case for being the best-placed Tory to win the next election'

Non dom media owners unite.

I'm sure the public will appreciate another 3 month leadership contest from the governing party..

Tories know what a woman is, Tories want to do away with Equal Pay.

From the EU Retained Law Bill

OMG Duncin that is appalling.
Please start a thread on FWR? I can’t handle the naive nonsense of the Tories ‘knowing what a woman is’- the Tories despise women. Always have. I grew up as a child of a single mother with Thatcher and Major demonising single mums and gymslip mums.

DuncinToffee · 28/12/2022 11:29

Sorry but there's no way I am starting a thread on that board Smile they don't want facts

Looking at that tweet the section is taken from the Employment Lawyers Association briefing on the effect of the Retained EU law bill.

Very worrying.
I have skim read parts but it will be worth a read in full (will have a look over the New Year).

www.elaweb.org.uk/content/ela-warns-effects-eu-revocation-and-reformation-bill

"Of even greater concern are the known unknowns and the unknowns. The Bill is blind to that which it intends to abolish – it is no mean task to identify all the regulations that the Bill intends to abolish – that is the tip of the iceberg. No audit has been carried out of the hundreds of employment cases which have been decided over the past 50 years putting flesh on the bones of those identified bare regulations. It is those decisions that have brought clarity and meaning so that they are now well understood. Their meaning will be swept away and with them some rights, which would not even exist without the interpretive principles of direct rights, supremacy and general EU principles, will simply be extinguished and die – nobody knows how many and with what effect."

The paragraph underneath is worrying too.

The equality act won't be recognised in the same way in basic principles.

borntobequiet · 28/12/2022 16:37

The FWR board is home to many well informed, nuanced and balanced discussions. Neither of the main political parties, nor many of the smaller ones, can claim to be entirely supportive of women and women’s rights.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/12/2022 01:07

That's a fucking disgrace.
Dh worked for Asda a few years ago and has an equal pay claim going through the courts at the moment which is being dragged out. Other supermarket workers are watching to see the outcome, so it has the potential to affect many big retailers. How many of those owners have lobbied for this? How much has been donated by these businesses into the tory party coppers?

This would pretty much erase those claims and fuck the retail sector over again. Without the other ramifications of rapidly moving our rights backwards. It's shit.

itsgettingweird · 29/12/2022 06:26

That's really the crux of it isn't it?

"Moving our rights backwards"

People are going to be forced to work longer, less breaks (this has already changed over the years), no sick pay, limited holiday rights.

I can't help thinking this is why they are so desperate to reduce the right to strike. Not just what's happening now - but because of what they want to do in the future.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/12/2022 11:36

Absolutely. I don't think they see us as human beings the same as them. We are just here for them to use and abuse. It's our children and grandchildren who will be paying the cost of this government.

What we have now with homelessness and food banks, warmth shelters is just the tip of the iceberg to come.

This rings so true - we are being reduced to disposable workers to use and abuse to make money for those greater than us.

i am sure Health & safety legislation will go soon , along with affordable healthcare.

it’s feels very Victorian and we are heading for the equivalent of the mills.

Notonthestairs · 29/12/2022 12:39

Any change to the right to strike is effectively an acknowledgment that terms and conditions & rights will continue to be eroded. Otherwise why would you need to intervene?

" We doubt there are enough senior judges to [rule on interpretation of the new employment laws] "

From @DuncinToffee's shared Employment Lawyers' Association.

To be generous to the govt, I suppose it could be argued that good employers are free to continue to offer existing contracts to new employees but how many employers will jump at the chance to take advantage of the new bill? Remember the call centres that keep very close tabs on toilet breaks for example.

Btw, thank you again for these threads.

mibbelucieachwell · 29/12/2022 14:49

My very elderly neighbour was critical of the strikes recently. She has fallen hook, line and sinker for the claim that they're unaffordable. Little old lady or not, I'm afraid I told her in no uncertain terms that there's plenty of money sloshing around being wasted and channelled to Tory chums and that it's not the same as previous decades as the cost of housing is so high now. She reads the Daily Mail and watches a lot of BBC news (including PMQ) I'm afraid I also told her the MSM is afraid of the government and partially controlled by the government. Apart from her conservative leanings she's quite supportive of young people and very sympathetic to children from difficult backgrounds. The myth of the con party being responsible and somehow 'decent' is so long lasting and pervasive.

This is a thread about the state of the NHS today. 12 years of Tory Angry

🚨 NEW: Across the West Midlands last night there were 561 999 patients waiting for an ambulance at around 10.20pm - while at the same time 138 @OFFICIALWMAS ambulances were waiting for over an hour outside hospitals in the region - not critical incident declare though:

Too much Christmas cheese and wine have pickled my brain. I read that as over half a million people waiting for an ambulance.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 29/12/2022 17:09

Aunt waited on the floor after breaking her hip for 8 hours

Friends dad waited 8 hours after multiple seizures

Friend waited 2 hours for suspected stroke

The nhs is broken.

The tories and ukip finally did it

fancyacuppatea · 29/12/2022 17:13

We live less than a 5min drive from A&E. Small one, probably going to have a roof collapse any day now...
I won't let us move as DH had heart probs.
I'll drive him there myself rather than wait for an ambulance.

NHS is not fit for purpose. The staff are mostly amazing. They go above and beyond. BUT that doesn't pay for their breakfast, or the electric to boil their kettle...

Oi, Rishi - you absent little leader, PAY UP. One well-trained and experienced nurse is worth 10 of you.
