I posted this article on one of the strike threads. It's gone behind paywall for me now but maybe others can still access it.

Britain’s winter of discontent is the inevitable result of austerity

@Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton Yup.
The fact that the ceiling collapsed on my dads feet/bed when he was in hosp a few years ago doesn't fill me with confidence either.

Too much Christmas cheese and wine have pickled my brain. I read that as over half a million people waiting for an ambulance.

I did too. And I wasn’t even shocked.

So did I and I could t work out why it was wrong until realised it meant 561 - 999 (call) patients 🤦‍♀️

One if my adult dc was wheezy in the weeks before Christmas. We all had this stupid cold so were waiting for it to pass. They seemed to get worse one evening so we tried 111 by phone and online, neither were fit for purpose and I had no intention of calling an ambulance at that point as although they were worsening, they were in no point life critical.

After waiting an hour and a half in a&e to be triaged , the nurse said she wasn't happy with their condition, marked them as low priority but took them straight into a cubicle so they could receive a nebuliser. Once our dc received this and were happy that the breathing was normal, we were asked to leave the cubicle. At this point we asked if we should leave a&e as the emergency had been treated, and the dc was happy to see a gp the following day for ongoing treatment and were told that we could if we wanted, would probably be seen quicker than by an a&e doctor as low priority.

We left and our gp received a letter from the hospital saying dc didn't wait with no mention of any treatment that they received. Dc was treated for a chest infection by our gp.

There was clearly a disconnect between the treatment they needed and received in a&e and the administration side meaning people were being treated quickly but waiting hours to see a doctor so they could leave. It seemed bonkers.

Very good friends of ours who sadly are Tory and I've known them most of my life, he is very very poorly at the moment had to go to A&e and needed to be admitted and basically was on morphine and had to wait in a wheelchair in the corridor for over 24-hours to get to a bed. Which he finally got to, last night

My friend kept saying the system is broken absolutely broken but can't admit it is anything to do with Tory cutbacks or austerity and says they have plenty of money they are just not using it in the right way 😮
I give up

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/12/2022 11:02

It's awful isn't it. I don't see how anyone can lay the blame for the dire situation the NHS is in at anyone other than the successive conservative governments and the health secretaries that set the policies.

Interesting

millennials aren’t getting more right-wing as they age: fascinating statistics

Desperate

Incredible stuff. The smoking gun for BBC dramas "warping" Britain with lefty propaganda:

  1. A nuclear disarmament quote in Vigil
  2. Sharon from EastEnders saying: “We’ve had Brexit & Covid, we don’t need you here”
  3. Black cops in The Responder
  4. Climate scientists in The Trick

The Telegraph story is based on an unpublished report by the Campaign for Common Sense.

We have no idea what methodology was used to come to this headline-grabbing conclusion.

The CCS was founded by Mark Lehain, a former advisor to Nadhim Zahawi and failed Tory MP candidate.

You say random but…….<Konspiracy Korner>……

Notonthestairs · 30/12/2022 17:48

Presumably Common Sense Group is funded by unnamed individuals?

Have we not had enough of these mysteriously funded Tufton Street style groups?

I imagine it's also linked to the similarly named John Hayes Braverman troupe.

Well, obviously the completion of this illustrious triumvirate is Nadine Dorries.

@Piggywaspushed I saw on another thread you didn't get any books for Christmas. It could have been worse - you could have been given one of Mad Nad's

Piggywaspushed · 30/12/2022 18:46

Oh , Lord, thankfully not!!!

DuncinToffee · 30/12/2022 20:45

I read that Hancock's diary didn't sell well, you can probably get a copy at a very discounted price Xmas Wink

Going to get a pile on but I think many posters who have quite a bit of hospital experience would say the opposite

the Tories have put tons of money into the NHS with the aim of companies making money. Not enough is spent on patient care. The procurement processes are entirely mad. Priorities - people will argue about that but I think there's some very odd priorities. Basic health issues like broken bones are not candidates for funding but we have those problems a lot.

people create management jobs and systems that have no value and leave medical professionals doing paperwork when they need to see patients.

the NHS needs a huge funds reallocation and jobs for the boys eg NHS Confederation, the notorious Lived Experience, needs to go. Also no restrictions on procurement - why buy the same item of the same quality from the most pricey supplier? Well, because it makes a whole bunch of procurement and tendering jobs.

this might have started under Labour but the Tories have continued it for 12 years. I don't want more money given to the NHS. I realise no one wants to make redundancies but the Tories seem to have creamed off the money to pay their mates.

oh and threatening people with the sack or the vaccine was a hot topic among staff in mum's recent 18 hour wait and subsequent stay. We can't get those staff back.

it's not just millenials who aren't getting more right wing, I reckon a lot of 40 and 50 aren't.

The Tories have been in charge for 12 years - or is it 13? They have zero excuse. I do think some of the fuck ups are deliberate.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 30/12/2022 21:11

I was told by a very obnoxious woman at 17 that I would be vote Conservative "once I had something to conserve"

I'm now 50 and more left wing than I've ever been 🤷

I'm nearly 55 and also more left wing than ever. The same thing happened to my mum back in Holland.

Not just the Tory MPs being less than truthful but their solicitors - noticed this on Twitter.

DuncinToffee · 30/12/2022 21:50

I remember the silencing bit. A few people shared the letter they received.

I’m also asking the SRA to investigate Osborne Clarke more widely. In the end, their actions cost me some legal fees but otherwise failed. But I know there are many others, without my legal background, contacts or financial resources, who have received letters like this (on behalf of Zahawi and others) and been silenced.
