WineDuncin and thanks for the thread.

Sunak is captain of a sinking ship now. Exactly how that ship breaks up is anyone’s guess. Tory party is somewhere between civil war and outright implosion. Reality vs ideology. Muppets, the lot of them.

Good title @DuncinToffee. Thanks for the new thread. Interesting stats on question time.

My MP actually replied to my email about voter id. A lot of it is blah blah voter fraud, blah blah Northern Ireland has it, but this is the last paragraph:

"Anyone without a form of identification will be able to apply for a new free Voter Authority Certificate – meaning that no voter will be disenfranchised. Ministers assure me that this system will be in operation in good time ahead of the implementation of voter identification. The Electoral Commission will also be delivering a national communications campaign for voter identification."

There is still no information on time frame or how to apply or how easy it will be. Nothing on how councils will implement it, but ministers assure her it will work well. So that's ok then. hope it works better than the Rwanda scheme. Confused

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 16/12/2022 19:17

Pmk. Thanks for the thread

carefulcalculator · 16/12/2022 19:21

Getting the free voter ID is not easy.

The only thing I hope is that apparently when the analysis was done there are plenty of older people who do not have adequate ID as well as younger people - meaning the Tories are potentially more exposed than they thought they would be. I don't want anyone disenfranchised but if they are going to be, I would like it to affect the Tories too.

Lonelycrab · 16/12/2022 19:28

Huge burden to be put on polling station people. All for what?

Some marginal gains, Tories suppress certain people. Get a few stolen votes.

So everyone has to accommodate that, when the current system produced ZERO FRAUD.

Absolutley corrupt. 😡

Roussette · 16/12/2022 19:28

@L1ttledrummergirl

EXACTLY what my chocolate teapot MP said. Word for word. Let's see shall we?

Thx for thread Dunc

@L1ttledrummergirl I used to call it Farage time. Nige was on QT more than Dimbleby. They made a star out of him which helped sow the seeds for Brexit by terrifying Cameron over the UKIP threat.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/12/2022 20:09

Thanks for the new thread

Anyone know much about the new boundary changes?

The Times are suggesting the changes will mean the south east gains seats at the expense of north east & west. This benefits the Conservatives.

"Kanagasooriam concludes that the number of seats where the Conservatives will be defending a majority of less than 5 per cent of the vote will fall from 43 to 29 on the new boundaries."

"It means that Labour needs an 8 per cent swing to become the largest party, up from six per cent on current boundaries. Starmer will need a 12.5 per cent swing for a majority, up from 10 per cent now."

Sorry meant to thank Duncin for the new thread!

Roussette · 16/12/2022 20:13

The boundary changes affect me. If it means I can divest myself of my 30 year term Tory, all well and good!

Notonthestairs · 16/12/2022 20:17

Here's hoping Rousette Grin

itsgettingweird · 16/12/2022 20:21

Our boundary changes mean that Braverman may take the western wards (the more middle class!) and Drummond who has some areas included in Waterlooville May take Fareham and Waterlooville.

I'd rather not have Rorys at all but seeing the back of Braverman would be a great start Grin

itsgettingweird · 16/12/2022 20:24

And Drummond actually isn't awful tbf to her.

Notonthestairs · 16/12/2022 20:38

Yes I can imagine losing Braverman as your MP could be v attractive!

pointythings · 16/12/2022 20:39

I'm actually quite worried about what we'll be getting as a replacement for Hatt Mancock.

Johnson? He could call in on Truss. I'm sure she likes a party...

I wonder how much input the local party can insist on.

Notonthestairs · 16/12/2022 20:47

Exclusive:

Rishi Sunak's government has decided to spend up to an extra £90k of taxpayers' money defending Boris Johnson over Partygate.

Contract for legal advice during privileges committee probe has been extended until 28 February 2023 and value has gone from £129k to £220k.

Money well spent.

PMK. Thanks @DuncinToffee

borntobequiet · 16/12/2022 21:25

Thanks Duncin.
The misery drags on…

Lonelycrab · 16/12/2022 21:43

Thought this was a good summary of where this govt is at. Here you have a Tory saying that Sunak is actually enacting a socialist coup on the conservatives. Couldn’t make it up anymore, it’s beyond parody.
