The problem is that whilst Johnson might have been relegated most of his Cabinet have remained in place (with a new job title).

DowningStreetParty · 01/02/2023 20:24

Very true. And that was after Johnson had purged the moderate and experienced people over Brexit so only the most craven careerists and Brexit extremists were left. Sad

DuncinToffee · 01/02/2023 20:40

As Starmer said at PMQs

“he’s just like his predecessor- ducking questions about integrity and accountability…

“In fairness his predecessor didn’t go around pretending he was a paragon of integrity and accountability.”

Isn't legal aid available to anyone who has committed a crime?

Oh wait the Tories got rid of that as well.

Notonthestairs · 02/02/2023 08:49

The Government are paying for Johnson's legal counsel in order to protect themselves. He is quite capable and probably willing to bring the whole Conservative edifice down with him. Atleast this way they know somebody is telling him to shut up.

But I do wonder whether, given taxpayers are paying the bills, taxpayers should be able to view the advice given.

Alternatively maybe the Conservative Party should take responsibilty for their man and the fees.

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2023 08:57

They seem to be scared of Johnson.

Why was Johnson as a back bench MP in the US meeting with Kevin McCarthy? And who paid for it?

Johnson has a vast ego, zero loyalty, no principles and Murdoch. He'd burn the house down and put himself in charge of rebuilding it.

I agree.

And this is what I fear most.

Even his recent trip to Ukraine shows he thinks he's more powerful and important than our current PM. I don't trust him not to make promises we can't keep - and to say something publicly that fuels the fire.

Don't get me wrong - I don't think Sunak is a better option (although he's far less dangerous) but he is our PM and he should be doing and saying these things and making these visits.

He also posted pics of him meeting and talking with McConnell. Now that is nothing to be proud of.

He's a loose cannon now isn't he? Should an ordinary bog standard MP be going over to the US to meet Senators and the Minority Leader of the Senate?
No.

And yes, who paid for this trip?

He is also attacking Sunak about Ukraine.

They created this monster.

It's not just Johnson, Truss is apparently back from her "breather".
We have two freelance PM's on the loose.
Strong & stable 🙄

I'd better get my anti growth coalition T-shirt washed and ready.

Makes one yearn for the days of Ted Heath's incredible sulk.

"Makes one yearn for the days of Ted Heath's incredible sulk."

Ha! I'd forgotten about that.

Fladdermus · 02/02/2023 17:21

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at Johnson berating Sunak for not sending fighter jets to Ukraine. Why didn't the interviewer ask him how many he sent while he was PM?

Saucery · 02/02/2023 17:25

With every Johnson grandstanding appearance recently I find myself thinking Who the actual fuck does he think he is?!

Brace yourselves

EXC: A WhatsApp group once used to support Liz Truss’s leadership campaign has begun to see several MPs joining once again.

Sources tell Sky News: “There’s a lot going on behind the scenes.”

Notonthestairs · 02/02/2023 22:25

Truss had "a modest number of supporters" Who would that include? Truss, Kwarteng, Zahawi , Coffey and a couple of icebergs 🥬

That said I did agree with her that many vested interests are hiding under the title of think tank.

EXCL w/@Smyth_Chris

Simon Case was told of a written complaint against Dominic Raab in March 2022, multiple sources say

A complaint by officials at the Ministry of Justice was escalated to their permanent secretary, who in turn informed Case

David Davis literally negotiated Brexit and is now saying it’s shit.
^^
Truss tanked economy but thinks she’s due a ‘comeback’.
^^
Zahawi was sacked but wrote a letter bigging himself up.
^^
Johnson’s unfit but acts like he’s a war expert.
^^
Extraordinary levels of delusion.

It must be such a happy place to be in, if you are so detached from reality. I am really quite envious of them.

Notonthestairs · 03/02/2023 13:38

According to Huff Post Truss has written an article outlining her thoughts as to where Sunak has got things wrong.
I laughed.

Notonthestairs · 03/02/2023 13:42

Johnson and Truss make Cameron and May look like paragons of virtue.
