Because they voted in exactly the same way for 60+ years. I don't think they've necessarily tracked the changes within the party.

Another story via the sun

Nadhim Zahawi was blocked from getting Knighthood after officials raised questions about tax affairs

Sorry I meant the non voting half

Blossomtoes · 21/01/2023 22:21

Jesus, that’s made me feel sick. That’s got to be the end of them, hasn’t it? Of all the scandalous things they’ve done that’s by far the worst.

DuncinToffee · 21/01/2023 22:27

It's truly shocking isn't it, and yet I fear people will stil defend them.

OP posts:
Blossomtoes · 21/01/2023 22:46

That’s indefensible. If that doesn’t ensure Braverman’s toast I don’t know what would.

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 20:18

Agree - for many in Cabinet they've little to lose and access to power. Suspect they'll be busy making sure their mates benefit also.

yes they will be giving favours to anyone they can in order that they can be called in as & when needed.
Hopefully their sense of entitlement will make them vastly over play their hand...or will there be a vast web of favours owed back watching and kompromat which can never be untangled?

BewareTheLibrarians · 21/01/2023 23:19

I just saw that on twitter. It’s beyond belief. I’m so angry with the absolute lack of protection and care for children just because they’re the group of choice to be demonised by the government.

I said on another thread, but all the shitheads on mumsnet, fb, twitter who blithely go “oh they’re all adults pretending to be kids, they’re liars and criminals” - everyone who believes, repeats and spreads that absolute shit has blood on their hands. The government are allowing children to be kidnapped to appease their racist base. That’s how low they’ll go.

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/01/2023 23:42

That's beyond any limits. I have no words, how can we as a society fail so spectacularly on something as basic as safeguarding vulnerable children in our care.

The buck stops with the shit state of a government, I know weve been saying it for months now but they really need to go.

Bravermans Fb page is full of Tory voters going to reform because they are right wing enough and doing enough apparently. However most of their comments are about 'not stopping the "illegals'l. (I HATE that term with a passion.)

I still think we'll have a Labour government who won't be able to so much as fart without it being a week long campaign against them and then we'll be back to this again.

itsgettingweird · 22/01/2023 06:23

Sad that's just so awful to read

So agree. This article by Jeremy Corbyn no less... sets out what it is like in the camps in Calais. Brace yourself, it is very shocking. We basically pay France millions to harrass, beat, seperate mothers from children and destroy anything and everything refugees own.

What have we become as a country? Braverman and those that enable her are truly evil.

I just posted this elsewhere... Dan Neidle is the lawyer who looked into Zahawi's tax affairs.

Dan Neidle has just been on BBC Breakfast News.
Oh my goodness, he was brilliant. Nina Warhurst introduced him as 'a Labour leaning, tax lawyer blah bah blah'.
He straightaway put her right. And said he is not Labour leaning, he is a-political and has in the past investigated Labour ministers when necessary and said he needed to put that right before he is interviewed. BBC presenters did not like that! Well done him.
He then tore Zahawi to shreds. He said that HMRC called it 'careless' not 'deliberate' because deliberate ends up as a prosecution and despite what everyone thinks, that is a last resort by them.
He then went on to explain what he thinks/knows happened. Zahawi received £27million a couple of years ago. He stressed that this amount is a quarter of his wealth and very noticeable to receive. Zahawi then chose not to engage with tax advisers (who would've advised him to declare it, more than their job's worth not to) so he just banked it and carried on. He was found out and then spent a lot of money and time legally threatening Neidle and many others until the Sun broke the story last Sunday.
Neidle also said what I have been thinking all along.... the penalty of 30% Zahawi had to pay proves he tried to not declare this huge amount of money and when he was found out... he negotiated with HMRC about payment.
Worth a watch if anyone wants to catch up, it was about 8.15am.

Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2023 09:06

Rachel Johnson on LK just now, and IDS. Both saying 'oh poor Nadhim, tax is awfully difficult for us rich people'.

Roussette · 22/01/2023 09:10

Watching it, yes! I read that seriously rich people as Zahawi is... are allocated their own HMRC expert, so that's just a load of bollocks.

We are now on to Cleverley and Boris receiving loan arranged by the BBC Chairman and then being recommended for the job by Boris. Cleverley waffle waffle waffle and saying absolutely nothing.

Who is sick of all of this... I am.

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2023 09:12

It's interesting that the BBC felt they had to politicise Dan Neidle's investigation. As if Conservative voters don't care about tax evasion - I'm sure many of them do actually.
@Chevyimpala67 - the non voters were very angry about the stream of scandals from Johnson and then furious about Truss&Kwarteng. Sunak hasn't neutralised that anger (so far) and they are supportive of the RCN. All retired, & currently using NHS services. They take voting seriously so not voting (if that happens) represents protest.

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2023 09:13

"Who is sick of all of this... I am."

Me.

Roussette · 22/01/2023 09:17

Bloody hell.... James Cleverley. LK drilled down on Zahawi and why isn't Cleverley answering any of the questions but saying he doesn't know. And why doesn't he know.

Cleverley said he's been in the US and when he got back he went shopping.

Okey dokey Hmm

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2023 09:20

They will get away with this because they've spent years portraying child asylum seekers as liars & cheats. Braverman will bat it away and go back to talking about Rwanda.

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2023 09:24

IDS saying Zahawi didn't benefit - he's received at least one £90,000 dividend payment. Small change to Zahawi I'm sure but absolutely a benefit.

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2023 09:47

Also worth bearing in mind, when ministers are asked about the BBC Chairman today, that Richard Sharp is not only long-term friends with Boris Johnson

He is also Rishi Sunak’s former boss

twitter.com/harryyorke1/status/1617088326195879939?s=46&t=4f1v9HWhHY3oSGnTgqmugw

BBC chairman Sharp declined to appear on the BBC to defend himself.

Wont make a difference in most safe tory seats of course.
Poor little tory voters. Finally dealing with the consequences of their vote.

Christ. That would pay off my mortgage!

It will. This used to be the safest Tory seat in the country, followed by Wokingham. Redwood’s majority is now down to 7k in Wokingham and the majority here has fallen with every GE in the last 12 years. We now have a LibDem county council and a Labour mayor. I think there will be a lot of staying at home and spoilt papers here next time.
