Oh well, never mind. He can pay £10 to visit his GP and that'll sort us all out.

WTAF. So he's a liar too.

No wonder he's gone into hiding. Raab parroting "Nadhim Zahawi has been very clear that he has paid all the tax that is owed & he paid it on time..."

Another lie.

No one pays a penalty if they pay on time and pay what they should.

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 12:06

That independent article is very revealing. Zahawi clearly should never have been appointed as either Chancellor or party chairman.
Raab and every other minister that goes in front of a microphone should be made to read that article out.

the80sweregreat · 21/01/2023 13:14

'Nada ' Zahawi , what a tool

Chevyimpala67 · 21/01/2023 13:18

Thanks for posting the twitter thread. So very very dodgy. This fucking govt 😡😡😡😡😡

Soothsayer1 · 21/01/2023 14:02

Bandits the lot of them🤬

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 15:14

OMG. Zahawi seems to be saying he negotiated a settlement with HMRC whilst he was Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Sunak said his leadership would represent accountability, integrity and professionalism - that surely must include getting rid of Ministers who resist paying their fair share of tax. I'm quite surprised he hasn't sacked Zahawi already - it's not like Zahawi ever supported Sunak. I'm old enough to remember Zahawi's article calling for Johnson to be reinstated just as Johnson withdrew his leadership bid.

Roussette · 21/01/2023 15:28

Zahawi's statement doesn't make sense. It's in here

How can HMRC establish it was 'careless' and not 'deliberate'.

They can't.

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 16:18

@nadhimzahawi’s statement also seems to be dumping his friend @BorisJohnson in it. Zahawi says that he talked with the Cabinet Office’s Proprietary and Ethics team about his unresolved tax affairs before being appointed chancellor by Johnson. Those officials always…

twitter.com/peston/status/1616829207052517377?s=46&t=0Nu0JDhXXqtMy1KG4DJ-7Q

Obviously it didn't bother Johnson. Can't think why.

itsgettingweird · 21/01/2023 17:56

I think what bothers me more than the not paying the tax in the first place (and that's abhorrent) is the fact they think we as a country as stupid enough to believe it was a mistake. An oversight. That he's doing the right thing by paying - but it now because he was was caught.

The country is on its knees and underfunding services and the very people cutting the services aren't paying their fair share into it and we are meant to believe they are all stupid idiots who don't know.

They can't see it's lose lose really can they.

Lying bastards or thick twats. Neither is exactly cause for celebration or a press conference. Angry

Lying bastards or thick twats
I think they are just laughing at us whilst filling their pockets, bank accounts, boots, offshore tax havens etc with as much loot as they can get their hands on😒

Sharp tees up a guarantor for Johnson's personal finances. Johnson recommends Sharp for the BBC chairman job.

Sharp did not disclose his involvement in Johnson’s finances to the panel. Nor did he inform the BBC, and the matter was not disclosed during his pre-appointment hearing before a House of Commons select committee in February 2021.
Johnson did not disclose Sharp's involvement in the register of Ministerial interests.

"Robert Peston, the ITV political editor, reported that ministers were telling would-be applicants: “Don’t waste your time applying, the PM has made up his mind it will be Richard Sharp.”

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 19:39

"Lying bastards or thick twats"

One doesn't preclude the other!

Agree.

And I think because they know they won't get voted in next time that is a bigger priority for them than the public purse.

Chevyimpala67 · 21/01/2023 20:03

With electoral annihilation on the cards, expect worse.
Much worse.

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 20:18

Agree - for many in Cabinet they've little to lose and access to power. Suspect they'll be busy making sure their mates benefit also.

Blossomtoes · 21/01/2023 20:19

Sadly I think you’re both right. They’ve got nothing to lose now. They might as well loot and pillage while they can.

Interesting. My very best friend is a true blue voter (I know I know.... how do I cope with that?)

She realises they are toast. She accepts that.

We don't talk politics. My friendship of nearly 50 years goes beyond that..... just!

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2023 20:30

Half the extended Stairs family just won't vote next time around. The others will close their eyes and ears and still tick for the blue candidate.

May I ask why?
Ex ukip? Don't like labour?
