God, I hope that isn't as eugenicist as it could be.

Statistically, most assisted dying occurs in youngish, affluent pockets of communities with serious terminal or life limiting illness : so not a viable plan of culling the elderly.

More (generally) non Tory voters losing out in the cost of living crisis:

Can't link as I'm on app but I have a thread in chat current about being on 6th week of trying to get an appointment.

Worth a read to see a real story of what people are up against.

L1ttledrummergirl · 11/01/2023 16:55

I have a very much loved, extremely vulnerable family member. I don't trust this government to have their best interests at heart and worry about the slippery slope with assisted dying. The current cabinet seems to have no moral or ethical compass, they have shown with the way that they behave (refugees in boats, need for food/warm banks, NHS shit show) that they have no regard for people's lives, they only care about profitability. Who knows where they would take this.

I'm also concerned about how low any future governments might go given the example of this lot.

I feel that we would be better off concentrating on exceptional care when people are needing it as well as end of life care but this is more expensive so this government will have removed it as an option.

I don't trust their motives.

Thought this fake news. Turns out to be the sad truth! Shame on #Sunak

In a similar position and feel the same.

Now in week 6 of trying to get a GP appointment. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4717239-now-in-week-6-of-trying-to-get-a-gp-appointment

Here you go Itsgettingweird. I've been reading your thread. I had very similar conversation with a friend last night trying to access/coordinate HCPs for a disabled teenager. Trying to get everything/everyone to match up is very hard.

Went private for a dermatology referral - still had to wait 3 months.

My gp surgery recorded telephone message states "only emergency appointment no routine appointments available" since April last year

No online system. Have to phone. Takes in average 40 mins to get through by which time of course any appointments have gone.

I had to phone today to get a medication added to my repeat prescription. Dr not avaliable. might phone me tomorrow.

The pharmacy regularly has 30 minute waits for medication if they have it in stock.

Don't let them hide this behind covid. We had covid here in Sweden too and regular services have continued like normal throughout, with a few tweaks to fit around covid.

I - and many others - with elderly/frail/sick/vulnerable family members are facing the very real possibility that if they deteriorate and need urgent help it will not come.
I'm scared.

I'm not surprised. It scares me and I'm only watching from a far. It must be terrifying for those of you at the coalface.

itsgettingweird · 11/01/2023 21:30

Just watching PMQs.

Sunak is drowning.

Starmer is impressing me more and more weekly. He's certainly on top of his brief whereas Sunak is slipping into Johnson territory. Just slinging insults.

Notonthestairs · 11/01/2023 17:02

I didn't realise this was to prepare us for Sunak’s appearance tonight Grin

I don't think Sunak will read the replies on his twitter feed.

Just had a chance to watch this.

He's absolutely brilliant.

Not just his delivery (see what I did there?!) but also now spot on he is with regards their actual content.

Notonthestairs · 12/01/2023 08:23

Rishi Sunak misled Parliament in his attack on the right to fair pay and strike today. So has Grant Shapps.

Sunak said at #PMQs that "the @ILO supports minimum service levels... they're present in France, in Italy, in Spain".

This is false - and they should correct it. 1/🧵

L1ttledrummergirl · 12/01/2023 08:46

I'm sick of dodgy soundbites. Labour's union paymasters is skating around the truth. Not all unions pay into the Labour Party so it's no more correct than the tories media/banking paymasters. It's misleading and dishonest.

Actually, while writing that, I wondered why I expect anything better from Sunak.

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2023 08:54

Ian Dunt is spot on here

From Notonthestairs twitter link

The countries that do have minimum service levels - forced by government, sacking staff, or bankrupting unions, when they seek fair pay - include Orban's Hungary, and Putin's Russia.
