I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

That's more really good news about your DS, Silkie. One thing you have working your favor is that inpatient care is expensive. Eventually, the care team is pressured to move him on and free up the bed. That's a lovely picture of Floof, who is one big cat.

The Miele technician returned this morning and replaced two parts that might be causing the fault. He only charged me for the parts, as it was the second visit for the problem. I thought that was quite fair. I hope this fixes it.

DD has asked us to send her her birth certificate so she can apply for a passport. There's a uni-sponsored trip abroad she wants to go on. It's pretty short notice to get the passport in time. We haven't enquired about the cost of the trip yet.

Fingers crossed for your Miele repair,MissC. Your reservoir photos are always lovely. I love walking beside open water.

Silkies is there to be an attempt by the Maudsley doctor to overrule the incompetent doctor by means of the courts? Hoping this isn't something that could go either way if so. Presumably the doctor from Maudsley would make a very good impression on a judge though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/03/2023 04:17

@Silkierabbit just like a baby...😍

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/03/2023 04:20

Managed to go sledding today to make up for missing it yesterday. It was snowing like December! I loved it; Havoc not so much. Was off-schedule for nap time so mummy timed that poorly...🤦‍♀️(rookie mistake)

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/03/2023 05:49

Hope you’re doing ok Prok.

Silkie love the floof pictures and glad your DS is ok.

I got so embarrassed in work I ended up in tears because someone I work with spoke quite rudely to me. ( I think it’s because of the bad time I had in my recent job it’s affected me deeply). My boss said this person gets like that and is like that with everyone.

fingers crossed MissC that the enginee managed to fix it this time. in the UK MissC the passport department is striking for 5 weeks in April. We have had to act quickly to apply for DS’s first one.

Havoc glad you enjoyed the sledging.

Received my first Oddbox last night. I've got potatoes, parsnips, aubergine, salad onions, small apples, tiny easy-peelers, a bottle of tomato ketchup, and what I think is raddichio. And that's the extra small box! Now I'll have to look for recipes.
I don't eat enough fruit and veg, so I thought a fortnightly box would be a good idea.

MissConductUS · 25/03/2023 21:37

Sue, is an Oddbox a community-supported agriculture thing where you pay for a weekly or monthly delivery of fresh produce? The pick your own farm we go to offers them, but they don't deliver, and it's too far to drive just for that.

It's a cold, rainy Saturday here so there is no cooking out tonight. Fortunately, our favorite Tex/Mex place has just reopened for the spring, so we'll get a takeaway from there. They close every winter as a lot of the seating is outdoors.

DS is very busy as the tax filing deadline here is just a few weeks away. Such is the life of a junior accountant. He's been working nights and weekends for the last few weeks.

The Miele washing machine has not had the fault since the parts were replaced on Wednesday, and I've done lots of washing. So fingers crossed that it's fixed.

And I almost forgot, the flowers are coming out around the reservoir.

I don't know how it works, but you get misshapen fruit and vegetables that wouldn't normally sell. You can specify any fruits or vegetables that you don't want; with each delivery. You can specify frequency-as I'm on my own I've chosen the extra-small box every fortnight.. I get 5 vegetables and 2 fruits in each box. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjvl7LDnPj9AhUSEcAKHQRWCmMQFnoECAoQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.oddbox.co.uk%2F&usg=AOvVaw2TXhU5PzTMG2YtEg2BfqpR

HildaTablet · 26/03/2023 12:50

Yes, it's all mis-shapen or excess fruit and veg that might otherwise be thrown away in Oddboxes, MissC; its a really admirable idea to cut down on food waste. I’ll be interested to see how you get on with yours, @sueelleker - we had one for 18 months or so, like you a fortnightly delivery, and for exactly the same reason; we thought it would make us eat more veg.

We gave it up last year, though, partly because the price had risen quite a bit, but also because we found we kept getting endless kale, celeriac and butternut squash. Fair enough in winter, and we like them all, but it got a bit overwhelming and we couldn’t use them up fast enough. You’re allowed three exclusions per box and we used all those up on things we really don’t like!

They also did a big, swishy redesign of their packaging for no reason that we could see - deliveries came in plain, no-frills cardboard boxes which was fine. But suddenly they started being adorned with graphics and they sent emails urging me to give my feedback….err, well, I didn’t care about the boxes, just what was in them! I notice they’re now advertising on TV too…

sueelleker · 26/03/2023 13:19

HildaTablet ; I've just had an email saying that the boxes are recyclable, and can I flatten it and leave in out on the delivery day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/03/2023 15:22

That's sounds great @sueelleker 😋
For aubergine, I slice it and dip in seasoned egg/flour/egg/breadcrumbs, then bake till tender/golden and melt mozza on top at the end. Eat as is as a snack/appy or with spag bol/spaghetti recipe of choice. My fave, actually, is spag with sundried tomatoes, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, a bit of tom/basil sauce all tossed together and a bit of crumbled feta on top (I try to be all cheffy and twirl the spaghetti on top to serve.) 😂

Just waking up here. Temp is 1c so I put the kettle on, turned the heat on and am back in bed under the heated blanket scrolling here. There's fresh snow on the mountains which makes me quite happy. I'm going to warm some milk for Havoc and make lattes and pancakes for breakfast. Did a costco shop before closing last night and bought lots of berries that I'm looking forward to for the pancakes.

@MissConductUS I've see spring flowers here, too. Tulips and irises, I believe. And in odd places! ie edge of a soccer field by trees and here and there along trails. I wonder if it's gardening fairies that have planted them? It's a nice surprise, though.

I hope hope everyone here has had a relaxing Sunday. I had hoped for another hour of sleep while everything warmed up, but then I picked up my phone..🤦‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/03/2023 15:27

@Lemonsandlemonade I'm sorry for the bad day at work. Come sledding with Havoc and me. Much more fun. 💐

HildaTablet · 26/03/2023 20:46

Yes, they'll collect the boxes, which is really good. I do think it’s a great idea, and it’s mad that so much fruit and veg is discarded because supermarkets reject perfectly good produce. It’s just a shame it didn’t quite work for us.

mathanxiety · 27/03/2023 03:03

If by gardening fairies you mean squirrels, then YY, Havoc - they love bulbs and dig them up. Those they don't eat, they often bury elsewhere for the winter. Being squirrels, they forget about them, and you get surprising banks of mixed spring blossoms in random places.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/03/2023 03:49

@mathanxiety are you kidding me? I am astounded and very amused!!! 🐿️

Silkierabbit · 27/03/2023 03:51

Hope work has improved Lemons

Maudsley are like advisers to current hospital Math, think its called a second opinion doctors.

Hope you are OK Prok

Just had DS for weekend.

Changed bedding and floof came on it for a snuggle with me. He's been testing out the suitcase, half for his body, half for his tail.

I guess I planted the seed early this morning... made the pasta I mentioned using linguine with roasted zucchini, yellow bell pepper and asparagus on the side. 😋

MissConductUS · 27/03/2023 19:17

Lemons, I'm sorry your day at work went so badly. Hopefully today went better.

Silkie, it never fails that a cat jumps on the bed when I'm changing the sheets. One of them also tries to get in my suitcase anytime I get it out. I think it's akin to their fascination with boxes.

We had lots of news on the family Zoom call last night. My MIL has been having some medical challenges that are unlikely to resolve soon, so the family in the Boston area are looking into moving her to a facility with a higher level of care. In the meantime, they have a health aid coming in three times a week to help her with her daily activities.

DD has decided she wants to go on a tour of Isreal shortly after Christmas this year, so is in the process of applying for a passport. She's become quite religious and wants to see the holy land sites. She is also being offered a summer internship in our area, so if that works out, she'd be home with us this summer for the first time since she went to uni. That will be nice, but I worry a bit about how she would adjust to being home again after having her independence. I know DS would like to have her home.

I found a little tree frog in the house yesterday, He must have been hibernating on one of the plants I brought in last fall. I was in a rush to get to church, so I didn't have time to take a proper picture.

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal today about the knitted postbox decorations that people do in Britain are being stolen. How deplorable.

@Silkierabbit I might be on this thread for Floof now...😍

Silkierabbit · 27/03/2023 19:25

😂Forgot I posted that already. We flew to Azores this morning and DH said it’s like one big botanical garden here which is true. Beautiful flowers and scenery. They gave us a free room upgrade to one with our own pool and terrace and a free bottle of champagne, free chocolate cake, liqueur and other presents as it’s their 8th birthday. Went to Sede cédasse and Furnas and been to spa here. Last pic is our hotel.
