I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Yay I’ve found the new thread. Marking my place.

Had a lovely half term with DS he has been a delight but felt incredibly stressed today thinking about work.

Have upset my DM today. I don’t like upsetting people but I have got to be more assertive. Basically she has asked my DB to have DS on Tuesday coz she can’t look after him, this would be ok in theory but she didn’t ask me first.

DS doesn’t see DB regularly so is reluctant to go to him as DS is unsure of certain people especially men.

DS has a bad chest again so may need tomorrow off.

Lemons, good luck with the job prospect. Is Radio 4 considered frumpy?

You wonder @MissConductUS thank you! I’ll admit to a brief moment of panic when the last thread filled!

I wouldn’t call Radio 4 frumpy because I listen to it too! It’s serious and considered though, apart from the 6:30pm comedy and the Archers…

sproutsandparsnips · 06/11/2022 22:27

Thank you Miss!
Silkie your trip looks fantastic, hope things improve re DS.
Prok glad you are feeling better.
Lemons good luck with the job.
Had a lazy day here. I have passed my MSc subject to exam board ratification so have ordered my cap and gown for graduation. Spent this morning watching DS in the rain playing rugby - it was a competitive game for two teams who often get a hammering so was nice for them both to score tries and have something to cheer about! 90 min round trip but worth it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/11/2022 03:58

Thank you @MissConductUS for including me. 😊

Thinking about making a hot chocolate, but not sure I have the energy....

BlueKaftan · 07/11/2022 04:31

Hope it’s okay if I join? I’m calmly listening to my DH snore and looking forward to visiting family for Thanksgiving in two weeks. Haven’t flown long haul since before Covid!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/11/2022 06:55

I felt slightly panicky when I noticed I had filled the thread, but the I trusted Miss to sort it out. Thank you!
It is 9C and rainy and grey. I will get up and make breakfast.

HildaTablet · 07/11/2022 07:32

Thanks for the alert, @MissConductUS!

Great news that you’re feeling better, Prok

Glad that you've managed to have a properly relaxing holiday, Silkie

I've dragged through the past week with a bug of some sort that isn’t Covid (I’ve done goodness knows how many tests) but has made me feel awful. Then after a week of work I had to do a round trip drive of 400 miles - I was only driving back, fortunately - to take DH somewhere. On the way back it rained so torrentially on the motorway it was actually difficult to see anything through the windscreen and was downright scary. And yet people were still whizzing up the fast lane at 80 or 90 mph. I felt like a nervous wreck once I got home.

Now it’s back to work for the week and I just feel like crawling back into bed and staying there….

New people are always welcome! Where will you be visiting?

I am in New England, and we also have people from NY state and Chicago area on here. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving mostly for a few days off and getting to see my two daughters who are at college.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/11/2022 14:45

Good morning all - it's a peaceful Monday morning here. Very sunny and warm outside, but I have a ton of work to do so I'm going to spend most of the day sitting at my computer.

Thank you MissC for the mention so I could find the thread.

The weekend was quite exciting - we were invited to a Guy Fawkes night bonfire and fireworks event run by some local British friends. Only the second bonfire night I've been to since I've lived here in the US. My 17 year old was so young at the last one we went to that he has no memories of it at all. He was very amused by the whole thing.

Someone made the most perfect Millionaire's Shortbread. It brought back very fond memories of my granny who always made it for us.

MissConductUS · 07/11/2022 15:36

Welcome, @BlueKaftan, and thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving travel news. It's a lovely holiday. Unfortunately, most of the leaves are down now, at least in New York, where I am. Have you been to the US for the holiday previously?

My DH snores too, but he uses a CPAP machine, which makes it tolerable.

Hilda, did you have a proper PCR test? The rapid/lateral flow tests are rubbish at detecting the new viral strains.

ZZ, it's been really warm here too, like June weather. The cats think we've skipped over winter and that it's spring.

We set our clocks back an hour yesterday. Has that happened in the UK yet?

OP posts:
HildaTablet · 07/11/2022 17:45

Unfortunately I haven’t had a PCR test, MissC. They stopped being free here and are quite a faff to get and also expensive. I’ve done about 6 lateral flows though (which are also not free any more) - all negative. Talking to people who’ve had the latest strain of Covid recently, I think it probably is just a cold, which you tend to forget can be really miserable if you haven’t had one for 2 years!

I’ve never stopped being very disciplined about wearing an FFP2 mask on public transport etc - and am almost invariably the only person in sight who’s wearing one….

Our clocks did go back, it happens the last Saturday in October here. An ‘extra’ hour in bed!

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/11/2022 19:09

Yeah as Helena is right it’s a serious radio station. I do enjoy the Archers.

Hilda hope you feel better soon. I have to say I’ve given up on masks for the majority of the time except for say doctors etc.

Missconduct - isn’t the cpap machine noisy?

Today was long in work. DS not too well today but seemed ok tonight.

MissConductUS · 07/11/2022 19:33

Lemons, the CPAP is a lot quieter than him snoring. I hardly hear it operating. They've gotten much quieter and smaller over the years. He has a Resmed Airsense 11 if you know someone who needs one.

We got DD's Christmas list. It's mostly things she wants for the car we're handing over to her in January or February. Some little things, like a purse hook and a waterproof rubbish bin, and some safety things, like a jumpstart battery and battery-operated tyre inflator. DH approves of the items on the list, so we'll get them for her. I hope we get another few years out of that car. It's a 2012 with 123k miles on it, but we've always done the maintenance at the Subaru dealer and we've never had a problem with it.

It was almost uncomfortably warm when I took a walk at lunchtime.

Hello all - I tried to post something dull and unexciting on the last thread but got the Thread Full message. Now I can't remember what it was. Oh well...

BlueKaftan · 07/11/2022 20:11

Thank you for the Welcome! I will be going to Florida to join some family members. I’m originally from the U.S. so have had many Thanksgiving holidays but somehow they mean more these days. Pumpkin pie in England has always been difficult to find! 😆

MissConductUS · 07/11/2022 20:37

That's lovely, BlueKaftan. We have a few UK ex-pats currently living in the US on these threads, but I believe that you are the first and only American ex-pat living in the UK. Did you grow up in Florida?

My DH worked in London for a time, and he was there on Thanksgiving. He complained about missing the holiday, the time off, and the special meal to his British colleagues. They surprised him by finding an American restaurant with a traditional Thanksgiving meal and taking him there for a boozy lunch. It was a lovely gesture that he still remembers fondly.

IWanderedLonely · 07/11/2022 20:51

Thanks Miss, now safely on the new thread. Smile
I've eaten far too much today. One of those days where you're just hungry all the time. I was a bit off colour last week and didn't eat much, now I feel better. So any weight I lost will now be back on.Sad

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/11/2022 20:55

MissC ah ok. I had a child on respite care who had one once and boy it was noisy. As bad as the snoring.

welcome blue.

I would love to go to USA and do a proper Thanksgiving. Technically have family in the USA but haven’t met them. My Grandparents on my dads side moved there before I was born. He had the chance to go but stayed in the UK.

halfpasteleven · 08/11/2022 13:27

Thanks Miss C for including me..
I had this post typed out for the previous thread:

Looks like you had a lovely holiday Silkie and I hope it has rejuvenated you somewhat for when you get home.

I'm glad you're feeling good Prok..
Bon appetite for the next meals!

We had a lovely day yesterday weather wise, so much so that we ended up in the playground twice..

Wasn't so nice today so we stayed at home and went outside in between the showers.

Hope everyone has a good week.

MissConductUS · 08/11/2022 14:06

Lemons, Thanksgiving is a lovely holiday. From what DH told me, the American restaurant in London did a good job of putting on the traditional meal. You could always give it a go on your own.

We're back to typical fall temperatures after the recent heat wave. The cats are not pleased.

Silkierabbit · 08/11/2022 14:11

Thanks MissC I was just thinking it was unusually quiet on the old thread hadn't realised was full. 😂

Back home now and catching up on things incl Mumsnet.

Floof was 😮to see us back and what he wanted first was games of Quality Street wrapper football, he trilled for that.

Just about to have mussels in white wine with bread and butter for lunch.

Got 3pm meeting about DS.

BlueKaftan · 08/11/2022 14:23

We just had a hail storm in Oxfordshire. A bit early in the season!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/11/2022 19:41

It's been months since we had hail here Blue. We only had light rain last night.

Silkie I hope the meeting went well.

DN has now lots of kitchen and toilet roll inserts under every cupboard, shelf and sofa. Grizu loves them!

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 08/11/2022 20:28

Quite excitingly I'm about to go out and vote. All the ads I'm seeing on MN right now are encouraging me to vote for specific gubernatorial candidates.

In other news, it's flipping freezing here.
