Thanks for new thread MissC. Off to dinner soon, got to wake DH up. 😂

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/03/2023 20:14

Thanks for the new thread.

work went better but woman I work with had had a few digs. She is checking my work which she has no right to do. She is no more senior than me but has been there longer,

I can raise it with my manager to make her aware, which I will do. My manager says she is notoriously hard work which has made me relax a bit,

made mars bar fridge bars which I may take into work but the rice crispy taste a little stale.

Loved the pictures with the daffodil Miss C so many grow here in wales when I see them I always think of both home and the world waking up from winter.

Passerillage · 27/03/2023 20:18

I did a lot of laundry. Found all of DH’s socks though.

ssd · 27/03/2023 20:24

Went to work. No fresh air all day. Went a wander and had cheeky coffee and cake afterwards. Now home.

MissConductUS · 27/03/2023 20:35

Lemons, she's just trying to intimidate you. You being new, are a potential threat to her status. Don't give in to any bullying and be clear that it's not her place to review your work. I'm anxiously awaiting my own flowers to open.

Welcome, @Passerillage and @ssd , and thanks for sharing your news. When My DH's socks get lost, it's usually because he didn't put one in the washing machine.

@ssd, I've just googled cheeky coffee. Are you in Manchester?

Just to say that I love this kind of thread. I love reading these seemingly inconsequential but important details in our days.

halfpasteleven · 27/03/2023 21:55

Your hotel looks and sounds fab Silkie.. so lovely of them to celebrate being open 8 years like that. Enjoy it.
(Did Floof find his way into anchor case after all?!)

I'm in bed with a hot water bottle listening to the rain outside. Think I just heard the milkman but I cannot get out of bed to check- I'm just too cosy. The milk will be ok until the morning, fingers crossed..

halfpasteleven · 27/03/2023 21:56

Anchor = your suitcase!!

Silkierabbit · 28/03/2023 02:07

Thanks Half. Floof would love it here, they have tuna in the mini bar in the room and at the restaurant the couvert is local sweet bread served warm with tuna and it looked exactly like Floofs bowl of tuna. Miss Floof.

We had a lovely dinner. I had pork with local pineapple and yams and DH had a local fish dish. We both had mocktails as we had both had two lots of the fizzy wine to celebrate hotels birthday and the bottle in room. I was quite silly after that asking DH why his pjs were standing by themselves mid air in the bathroom when actually it was just dh wearing them. And then he reminded me I needed to take Tamoxifen.

Weather forecast is very windy for today so we may spend day in spa and pools. The main pool is so hot and the outdoor one is too, think it’s thermal hot springs ones.

Looks amazing silkie glad you are having a wonderful time.

miss I think ssd meant a spontaneous coffee and cake which they didn’t really need - making it cheeky treat. I hope your daughter makes it to the Holy Land. I went when I was 18 and it was absolutely amazing, such a beautiful/inspiring place problematic politics aside

Shoxfordian · 28/03/2023 06:41

I’m on my way into work and it’s all rainy 😕 but there’s meant to be free pizza for lunch

ssd · 28/03/2023 09:23

Yes, it was a spontaneous coffee and cake i definitely didn't need but really enjoyed. I worked on that street the coffee shop was in, ohh about 33 years ago and i was relaxing and reminiscing all at once. Wondering where the time goes....
Thanks for the welcome @MissConductUS

HildaTablet · 28/03/2023 10:03

Thanks for the new thread, MissC.

We’ve been away for a few days and I started feeling a bit off-colour, developed a scratchy throat and then a full-blown monster cold/virus thing and felt awful. Naturally tested for Covid, but negative. Came home and DH announced he was feeling a bit shivery so he did a test and…positive. Finally succumbed after steering clear for three blasted years.

Weirdly I’m still negative, so we’re trying to keep well clear of each other within the house. Hopefully I won’t get it.

MissC, here’s one of the knitted decorations that adorned our local postboxes and street furniture during the Queen’s platinum jubilee. They were carefully removed when it was over, and luckily not stolen!

Silkierabbit · 28/03/2023 20:00

Hope you feel better soon Hilda

Thanks Helena

Had a lovely breakfast, smoothie, fresh orange juice, coffee with sweet bread smoked salmon local butter and local cheese portuguese tarts and fruit. Then went to thermal pools and sauna, steam room, Turkish bath etc with lovely views. Just been on drive out around Furnas and the island. Just off to dinner now. And tuna at the mini bar for Floof

Oh good, I hought I'd lost you.

My fingertips have no sensation at the moment - I touched a 200 °C hot baking tray with bare fingers and did not notice - so I do little typing at the moment.

Uncalm days here, DH went to his doctor (Hausarzt) to renew a prescription and mentioned - in passing - that his heart "fluttered". His doc instantly checked him through, called a 'Notaufnahme' (A+E ?) at a hospital, sent him there for further examinations. He was allowed home for an overnight bag, and DD accompanied him to the site.
He arrived at around 8pm and was allowed home around 11:30 pm.
(I did not know that people coming in with heart problems need to be seen and dealt with within 10 minutes of arrival)
Result: extremely high blood pressure and low calium of unknown origin.
I have to take his blood pressure 2 times a day and record it.
Now I worry.

Hail and snow here, temp in our so called living/dining room this morning 12 °C. Yay!

MissConductUS · 28/03/2023 21:22

Hilda, it's very hard to avoid covid when someone in your house has it, as it's airborne. When DS caught it in the city last Christmas, we all had it within days. You may get an asymptomatic case, so keep testing. That postbox decoration is fabulous.

Silkie, did you bring Floof on the holiday? That lucky cat!

Prok, the loss of sensation in your fingertips is called peripheral neuropathy and is common in patients receiving chemotherapy. It usually resolves after you complete treatment. Sorry to hear about your DH. Did they put him on blood pressure medication? How high are his readings?

I think we're just going to live with the Miele having the error occasionally. I don't want to spend the money to replace any more parts and it doesn't seem to warrant a new machine.

OP posts:
Silkierabbit · 28/03/2023 21:56

Prok Sorry to hear about the neuropathy. You should tell your chemo doctors about that, here they reduce the dose when it gets that bad though it’s case by case. Sorry to hear about your DH, I hope he can get medicine and reduce stress to bring that down.

No Floof is not with us MissC, was just joking. Hope your Miele keeps going.

Just went to dinner. I had the local steak dish and DH had fish. We had the local sweet bread and pate as the couvert today. DH had a flower in his cocktail. The knife was scary.

mathanxiety · 30/03/2023 03:38

Prok be careful with your fingers and nails. Hope your DH will receive medication to bring his BP down. Glad he was seen so promptly and efficiently.

The last two weeks have seen a huge amount of tree trimming activity around the village. Whole blocks have been closed to traffic as the cherry picker trucks and attendant chippers have thinned trees and taken branches and twigs growing near overhead wires. Roadwork has also been taking place. One particular street that once caused my to bit my tongue as I rattled over it is now being torn up. Lots of hi viz involved in both operations.

This morning I brought DD3 to the train and we admired the way the garbage bins were lined up neatly at the edge of the alley. She asked me what garbage men do on the days when it's not garbage days Smile
I broke it to her very gently that they are off emptying other bins all over the metropolitan area. We are not their only alley. She took it pretty well.

mathanxiety · 30/03/2023 03:38

Apologies for typos...

Silkierabbit · 30/03/2023 05:38

Just at airport on way back and get DS today. Education meeting. Legal case tomorrow. Hard to win esp me against 10 to 20k spent on lawyer by school but at least it means questions asked.

Lovely last day, spa in morning then flew to Porto and lovely meal.

Brokendaughter · 30/03/2023 06:07

I ordered a bracelet.
It turned up & looked exactly as I expected.
It is just what I wanted, so that is all good.

I'm not keen on the ugly box it came in though.
It's a dull, lifeless yellow with green writing.
I also think it's really a necklace box as it's way bigger than it needs to be.
This was not a bargain priced bracelet & was purchased from a company that has been around for a very very long time.

I expected better packaging for the price I paid, so I am feeling a very mild sense of discontent.
Not enough to actually do anything about it though.

HelenaJustina · 30/03/2023 06:16

We’ve got a day and a half left with kids in at school (I’ve got to do 2 days in work next week) and so of course I have started a cold.

math the reference to high-vis really made me smile!

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/03/2023 06:30

Hope your meeting/case goes your way Silkie have my fingers crossed.

Prok am sorry about your fingers. Best Wishes for your DH Prok too.

Helena hope your cold turns into nothing.

went round a bend and hit flood water yesterday almost totally lost control of car but somehow managed to get it back, scary scary moment last night.

2 days until Easter break for me.
