Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 24: Calmly through the day

I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

ZZ, do you have early voting? I voted over a week ago. I'll be so happy not to have political ads on TV anymore. They kept showing the same ones over and over.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 08/11/2022 21:34

We can vote early using absentee ballots but I quite like voting in person so I rarely get one. Having said that, turnout is huge, and the line stretches outside the building right now. I'm celebrating that turnout is high but it's a bit nippy for waiting outside for any length of time.

mathanxiety · 09/11/2022 01:38

My DCs all voted today. There are long lines downtown at some voting supercenter locations - if you're in line at 7 they let you vote even if you don't actually get to cast your ballot until close to 9 o'clock. Looks like the incumbent governor is going to win. Fingers crossed.

There's live election coverage all evening on TV.

I'll be glad to see an end to the political ads.

We're back in t-shirts and shorts tomorrow and Thursday and then the bottom falls out of the weather and we'll have flurries over the weekend.

Best wishes for your meeting, Silkies.

MistySkiesAreGone · 09/11/2022 05:27

I'd love to join and share the mundane. I live alone and the office is not the same since Covid. I suppose there are benefits- I can get more done as it is quieter.

It has rained so much here. I noticed my rug has flown off my 3rd floor balcony. It could be anywhere! I must have a peek for it later.

I'm about to get up, have granola and tea. I then have to write up something for work, and then finalise a number of pieces of work. It's going to be a busy day.

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/11/2022 07:33

Midterms are making the news here too!

I feel dreadful I left DS without a nappy on last night for bed. I was tired I forgot. He was soaked when I got him from his cot, he has nappy rash now,.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/11/2022 09:17

Tomorrow is St. Martin, so I (traditionally) may start Christmas baking then.
It is raining.

MistySkiesAreGone · 09/11/2022 11:43

I've located my rug. I posted on the facebook page of my block and it flew onto the balcony of someone below. I will pop round to get it.

There is a whats app group but I messaged the owner to be added a while ago and not been added. I do wonder what excitement I might be missing out on.

I don't want to message her again but don't want to post my number on a public page.

Maybe I will wait until New Year and ask to be added again.

MissConductUS · 09/11/2022 14:32

Welcome, @MistySkiesAreGone, and thanks for sharing your floor covering news. Did the rug fall off the railing on your balcony?

DH and DS are getting haircuts together tomorrow after work. What is unusual about this is that it was at DS's request. Normally DH has to instigate it. I think DS is being a little more aware of his appearance now that he has to get dressed up to go into the office occasionally.

That's the crazy thing. It was on the decking and the sides are glass, so the wind must have lifted and lifted it, until it blew off. I have not known so much wind and rain. Maybe I have more wind as third floor...

I have a large parasol that has toppled over twice in the wind. It has been keeping me up actually, the knocking sound. I should look at it to unscrew the head and put it indoors. I've not used it for a few weeks now. I could just pull the blind down if it is suddenly super sunny and hot.

I also really need to fix my windows, none of them close properly. I think that has elevated up my to do list for the end of this week.

HelenaJustina · 09/11/2022 20:00

I forgot that I had a plan to go home after the 7:15pm pick up and join the PTA meeting virtually. So DC1 and I hung around until 8pm to pick up DC3. It’ll be too late to join by the time I get home now.

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/11/2022 21:48

Today I had my first marks back from GCSE English class I got an A am quite proud of myself to be honest.

Misty we have just insulated our drafty windows. It’s made a huge difference.

DS sent home from nursery today but he was fine.

went to look round for that job was interesting a huge challenge too.

MistySkiesAreGone · 09/11/2022 21:52

I told my Dad I have a motorway driving lesson on Friday. He replied:

I see that there was an accident on the M23 this evening. A lorry has shed its load of brightly coloured paper and envelopes.
The police say its pretty stationery.

I don't know where he gets these from. It could be that he makes them up or punforeveryoccasion.com.

Congratulations @Lemonsandlemonade ! A great achievement- well done!

Slipped while trying to climb a wall this morning trying to fix our gate which had stopped working due to the sun, which sounds funny but was v painful.. I've a sore hand, shoulder and knee as a result.. hoping I won't be too stiff tomorrow.

MissConductUS · 09/11/2022 23:02

Well done, Lemons.

Misty, that was a really terrible pun. My DF was a big punster too. It got old quickly.

Halfpast, how did the sun interfere with your gate opening?

DS was told today that he has to go into the office in NYC tomorrow, so the DH-DS haircut adventure has been rescheduled for Saturday. DH and I have to drop his car off for service tomorrow night. They're also going to put on the winter tires tyres.

How can something be dull yet completely filling of the time?

Tradies replacing a fence, something which did not require my presence. Apparently.

I dressed a tradie's wound, supplied drinking cups, looked sort of OK when a broom of mine was broken cleaning up, looked thin-lipped when they dumped all the old fencing ( and it was very heavy) on my neighbour's nature strip, cleaned up the debris from MNNS.

For myself I made an aubergine and tomato curry, messed about on MN and watched Kath and Kim Series 1. There is a last hurrah of K&K on TV on Sunday.

BlueKaftan · 10/11/2022 04:24

My husband repaired our refrigerator but we had to throw away so much food. And apparently we are the queen and king of condiments. Who knew?

My cat has arrived at my bedside to try to get an early breakfast. I will fake sleep.

HelenaJustina · 10/11/2022 06:19

Hope you haven’t woken up too bruised halfpast

One of my brother’s has their birthday today, he is usually incredibly hard to buy for. Fortunately one of his favourite authors has begun releasing her new books in October, this has made present purchasing much less stressful. I like the author too so he often buys back the book for me for Christmas.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/11/2022 09:26

I'll be at my doctor to renew prescriptions and have the pick line checked and then DD and I will run some errands.
Weather is nice, 10 °C, and as yet no rain.

IWanderedLonely · 10/11/2022 17:53

Came home to find that Nelly ( our robovac) had got tangled with a wire, which pulled the extension gangplug, which pulled the lamp off the top of the shelves, which hit a vase on the mantlepiece which broke cleanly from its base and rolled across the room. Took me a while to figure it out. I didn't like the vase anyway.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/11/2022 19:41

Iwandered 😀As long as you do not blame the cat.

halfpasteleven · 10/11/2022 22:22

Halfpast, how did the sun interfere with your gate opening?

We have an electric gate to our house- there is a part of it which, when the sun shines in the morning, can stop working, as the sun hits the part that should help the gate slide along but instead it stops it from moving at all. We need a key to reset the gate, and then move the gate manually.. if we need to get out at the same time the sun is shining on that exact part.
I doubt I've made a very good job of explaining it but that's the best I can do.. it's a total pain but thankfully does not happen very often.

Of course it did happen when I was rushing to get to a gaming store to get a PlayStation 5 for DS for Christmas!

I didn't get one but DP got one later the same day so we were sorted by lunchtime happily.

Worth the soreness today.

mathanxiety · 11/11/2022 03:12

I bought a pair of replacement bulbs for my headlights as the left one has stopped working, but I didn't have time to put them in today. We have one more day of mild weather, which will be my last chance to get it done without wearing a coat.

Hope you're doing OK, Prok

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/11/2022 05:14

@mathanxiety Good idea to get the headlights replaced. I've just booked my car for a winter check before the weather changes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/11/2022 10:28

I had to delay baking till the weekend - the dough must rest for at least 6 hours in the cold and the fridge is full and the weather is too warm to put it in the cold room.
I decided to start with raisin cookies to please DH, who quite unraisonable wants raisins in everything.

math I am as fine as possible, even put on weight. Next week they'll take blood for a genetic test. Apparently 8% of pancreas cancers are linked to the breast cancer gene.

HildaTablet · 11/11/2022 11:11

Glad to hear you’ve put on some weight, Prok. The baking sounds good. It reminds me that I must make my Christmas cake, but I just haven’t had a chance for the past couple of weeks. I have all the ingredients (I think).

I made the infuriating discovery that somebody rammed into the back of our car then scarpered without owning up. The tailgate is bished in and I only noticed it because I was walking past the car and the light hit it in a way that suddenly wasn’t right. DH was out and about at various points last week while I was at work so it must have happened then. It also must have been a van or a pickup of some kind because our car’s quite tall and the damage is weirdly high up. In fact I’m afraid I’ve silently pondered whether DH reversed into something and isn’t owning up to me….tbh he didn’t seem terribly surprised/annoyed when I came stamping up, full of rage about it 🤔
