What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

In what world is a Venus razor a 'luxury item'? Confused

It’s £3.49 in boots!

Maybe she stuck some diamond on the handle?

BrennieGirl · 03/11/2022 10:35

Dyson cordless. Absolute rubbish.

Well it’s more expensive than my cheaper razors I normally buy😳, it’s not the disposable one but the purple pretty one that you can keep the handle after and swap the razor head bit…

Mine is a luxury too, a change from rubbish disposable ones feels amazing, it's good to find joy in small things

Yeah that's a luxury for me

orangeisthenewpuce · 03/11/2022 10:43

I splurged on a man's razor (or rather advertising is aimed at men) a Harry's one. The actual razor has 4 blades. It's more expensive than the one you are describing OP but is 1000 better at giving a close shave on legs, armpits or anywhere else. I don't need to replace them as often either

RandomCatGenerator · 03/11/2022 10:46

I second Harry’s. They’re really very good.

I bought some Mac Ruby Woo after listing after it for ages. It clumps badly and doesn’t stay on. Maybe it’s just me - I’m prone to dry lips - but disappointed!

I have just splurged on some Chanel lipstick though and oh my that is worth it!

SirChenjins · 03/11/2022 10:51

YY to the Dyson Cordless. The battery is absolutely rubbish, I've lost count of the number of times we've had to replace it.

I think my partner uses Harry’s … Do you think he would notice if I used his razor???🤔😁

You shave your toes????

Are you a hobbit?

hairyunicorn · 03/11/2022 10:57

2nd the Dyson Cordless, absolute crap and wasn't really impressed with the Oodie i brought, no where near as thick and fluffy as i had hoped.

GreyTS · 03/11/2022 10:59

I think Gillette do a razor that's designed for the bikini area, tbh though I find the exact one you have absolutely fine for down there, and I shave it bare. Top tip though, always start at the bikini line with a fresh blade, then move on to underarms and legs etc last

crackersforcheese · 03/11/2022 10:59

I agree with the dyson cordless, complete waste of money. Went and re bought a shark and love it!

Nat6999 · 03/11/2022 11:05

I bought a Ninja dual zone air fryer, I would have been better off with a new halogen oven.

You can’t shave your legs and then stop at your toes, it’s an incomplete job… Your toes are connected to your legs so would look weird to have smooth legs and hairy toes 😆

The biggest waste of money was all the items I bought to help children sleep without me. Soothing music, light projectors, organic wool mattresses and silk duvets - none of it worked!! The worst was the rock-hard coconut coir mattress, which I do not recommend, DC slept much better after we got rid of it and I have two friends who made the same mistake and also binned it.

Also not sure it’s luxury 🤣 but I was excited about our new Henry Hoover. Loathed it. Noisy, annoying shape, found it not user-friendly. Gave it away.

MichikoTheCat · 03/11/2022 11:37

Apple Watch, really regretted it to be honest

Me too, again this item isn't luxury but I bought a Snuzpod. The mattress is so hard my baby never slept when we put him in it.

Withabonussock · 03/11/2022 11:53

A new HP laptop. So slow and shit right from the start.
I love my cordless Dyson though.

GetOffTheRoof · 03/11/2022 11:55

Dyson Airwrap. I fell for the gimmick. So not worth it.

And I buy mens razors - Gillette Fusion 5 with changeable heads. I haven't cut my legs once in the last few years after decades of shitty lady branded razors. I'll never go back.
