What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

I’d hate someone to really upset you if an off the cuff comment made you cry 🙄your comment wasn’t very understandable then.

I didn't have any trouble. She was agreeing with you.

Love my cordless Dyson. Hate Henry for day to day vacuuming but he’s good for cleaning up after DIY.

Also love my Apple Watch. Use every day at work.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned about takeaways! This is me! Always late, items missing, crazy expensive and regret it and feel guilty, but always ordering again in a week or two! Im trying to quit now though!!

Quite @SirChenjins. It’s been deleted the ableist shit it is.

Thank god for that - that kind of ableist shit has no place on MN.

Balsam hill xmas tree.

It isn’t special 😭

Agreed. Just like any other expensive Christmas tree

@RandomCatGenerator @SirChenjins Thank you both and @JeanRondeausMadHair . I really appreciated that you all stood up for me.

@seperatedmum I have lots of (very cheap) Apple Watch straps. Mostly plastic, for swimming purposes, but also a couple of leather ones for special occasions.

@RedTiledRoof glad I could help. Hope you like it. 😄

I'm hoping some more people post that they are disappointed with the Velvetiser before my trigger fingers get too itchy 😂

Sorry - it’s quite fabulous and I don’t regret spending money on what is essentially a milk warming and frothing machine. The salted caramel hot chocolate drink is especially delicious.

I bought the salter hot chocolate machine which is a lot cheaper and does the same job

I bought a Ninja dual zone air fryer, I would have been better off with a new halogen oven.

We love ours 🤷🏻‍♀️

An eye migraine massager. Cost £80 and doesn’t work. The massager isn’t powerful enough to be effective. Had such high hopes as my ocular migraines are always tension related and massage feels amazing and can cure a really painful attack.

Sorry it was such a disappointment. I was looking at one for DP who also gets awful ocular migraines.

How much were the new ones ?

I had some made in a local shop which has since closed and they didn't hem them correctly or do the hound symmetrically. It was very unlike me to let this go and I regret it every time I close them!!

Just under £400, so as I say not especially cheap - but that was with pinch pleats and a relatively high end fabric. A lot depends on the fabric you choose and the extras like blackout/thermal linings (always take samples first, obviously).

If it’s a regular size window, ready-made Dunelm ones are as good as any. We just replaced our bedroom curtains and they’re fine.

Charlotte Tilbury 'Pillow Talk' lipstick - made me look like I was suffering from heart failure.

A rare, special edition Mini Cooper - looked so pretty, but the suspension was just so rock hard. Just driving over a small leaf felt akin to driving over a cow on the road. And it was forever breaking down - I was on first name terms with the receptionist at the MINI dealership.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 07/11/2022 15:04

Pillow Talk lipstick 😂😂😂😂😂😂

DatasCat · 07/11/2022 18:21

Pillow Talk lipstick is definitely overhyped. 😆 It’s only another nude shade, you might suit a bluer undertone or darker shade.

Oh no 😮🤣

I have always wondered about charlotte tilbury makeup but never actually bought it. I take it, this makeup brand isn’t worth the price??🤔

I hate, hate, hate it. I’ve got good skin for my age (late forties) but the foundation and concealer make me look embalmed. Better with nothing on at all! (in the makeup department).
Like both my Dyson cordless and my Henry. But don’t love either.
Velvetiser was totally worth it. My kids love me so much more now. Especially when I add mini marshmallows.
