What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

The white company electric diffuser. Most disappointing.

Also op - fellow toe shaver here!

Me, too. Let's normalise that hair grow in places like this too. Not every woman is lucky to have smooth body or very little hair naturally. Once I saw that post I immediately thought of my mum, who feels superior, because she doesn't have arm hair and says other women are like monkeys. Hideous behaviour. And now this hobbit comparison from PP. Very classy.

You can’t shave your legs and then stop at your toes, it’s an incomplete job… Your toes are connected to your legs so would look weird to have smooth legs and hairy toes 😆

But you don't mention shaving your feet. So I am imagining smooth legs, smooth toes, broken up by hairy hobbit feet... 😂

Omg the Dyson cordless too. And then the shark cordless (better than Dyson but still…).

I went back to an old fashioned vacuum, plugged in, no frills and no fancy adverts and it’s bloody brilliant.

The white company electric diffuser. Most disappointing.

Why is this? I absolutely love mine and I never faff about doing the cleaning routine either.

QuietYou · 03/11/2022 12:49

Omg the phone ping option has been a LIFESAVER for me (ADHD). That alone made it worth it 😂

What's that?! I only really use my Apple watch as a watch, occasionally use it to pretend I'm a spy answer my phone if I'm not near it.

InsertPunHere · 03/11/2022 12:53

The Dyson cordless vac is a useless piece of junk. We've had to buy a second vacuum because it was so awful.

The robovac was useless because we don't have nearly enough clear floor space - it got tangled in chair legs and stool legs and endlessly needed rescuing.

Brieeeeeeeee · 03/11/2022 12:54

My Apple Watch is the best thing ever bought! Same with dyson cordless, although it needs emptying every five minutes.

Every lipstick I’ve ever bought, from £4 boots 17 to £23 Chanel, has been a waste of time and money. I don’t suit lipstick and it always smears.

Sillystripytail · 03/11/2022 12:56

Bless you OP. I also used to think that Venus razors were luxury based on the extortionate price but they're actually just overpriced crap! Try Estrid razors if you can wait for delivery, it's a subscription service and it's the best disposable razor I've ever used.

I also shave my hairy toesWink

Shitty post from PP. Judging women for having hair, whilst also judging them for doing something about it.

VAX carpet washer, absolute shite,

Sold it after one use and hired a man for cheaper, who said that actually most of the dirt in those shitty VAX hoovers isnt the stain, its the crap from the underlay underneath

Get my carpets done once a year now and close my eyes the rest of the time lol

Sitdownnigel · 03/11/2022 13:02

My second child.
He’s nothing like the first one I got and costs us a fortune.

You shave your toes????

Are you a hobbit?

I bet you're sat there with hairy big toes.

Dyson upright vacuum the early versions, annoying and cumbersome.

Shark handheld vacuum, I was 'influenced' it can't pick up anything more than a tiny crumb.

KitchenAid, beautiful and has some uses but takes the joy out of baking for me.

I used my Kitchen Aid mixer the other day to make a cake. I turned round for 2 seconds, and it jumped off the worktop and landed on the floor, making a huge dent. We live in a rented house, so now I've got to try and fill the dent so the landlord doesn't notice. Never had this problem with my handmixer!

I didn't even know it was possible to have hair on your toes maybe that poster didn't either (I wouldn't call someone a hobbit though).

I've been disappointed with an expensive electric diffuser for essential oils, as it has created too much humidity in the room given that it expels a lot of steam. It contributed to a build up of mould Blush

PinkButtercups · 03/11/2022 13:05

Also I shave my big toe. I only had minimal hair on it but I didn't want it there. My choice!
Not sure why women still get shamed for having hair.

This made me laugh out loud Grin

PinkButtercups · 03/11/2022 13:06

@GoodVibesHere you didn't know it was possible to have hair on your toes?!
Hair can literally grow anywhere on your body... 🤨

Bumzoo · 03/11/2022 13:07

You shave your toes?! Shock

LampHat · 03/11/2022 13:08

Dyson hot/cold fan. Bought it about 9 years ago, still use it and still salty about how shit it is.

MichikoTheCat · 03/11/2022 13:08

@xogossipgirlxo

I'm not really a fitness person, it's got an activity app that shows you how active you've been that day and it could be motivating cuz if you do well that day all three circles of the display thing close, but I don't really need that, I used it to pay in shops as it was quicker than getting my phone but if it doesn't work for some reason it's kind of awkward.

Someone mentioned the alert to find your phone but my phone is usually silent, it also tracks your sleep if you like but then you always need to charge it so you have to take it off for few hours, it's just not for me but I can see how it can suit others, you can also text, answer calls etc but phone is just more convenient

Maybe one day all these surprised ladies will realise they grow hair on their butts too. It's not only guys' thing.

The cost? Refills are £10.99 for THREE!

I'll stick to my winter plumage of "yeti" Grin

I’m a bit disappointed in my Fairfax & Favor boots. They’re beautiful and I love them and they make me feel very smart but after a couple of hours my feet just ache. I’d have thought the leather would have softened by now but it still feels a bit hard. I don’t think I’m used to wearing heels either. Probably should have gone for flat suede instead of heeled leather. They’re so lovely though.

twilightcafe · 03/11/2022 13:12

I paid around £30 for a bottle of Olverum bath oil. Smells like lettuce juice.
